  • Part 4 of my first sessions with the new Behringer PRO-800: Strings and pads sounds. I'll check out 4-5 preset sounds, fiddling around with the controls like cutoff, resonance, lfo. I've added some chorus from the built-in effects unit in my mixer and some delay and reverb from a Zoom MS-50G pedal.
    Part 1 • Behringer PRO-800 pt 1...
    Part 2 • Behringer PRO-800 pt 2...
    Part 3 • Behringer PRO-800 pt 3...
    Last week I received the new #behringerpro800 in the mail, the 8-voice analog polyphonic synthesizer desktop module based on the #prophet600, a synth from the 80s also sometimes referred to as a poor man's Prophet-5. And this must then be a poor man's version of the Prophet-600, because it is very competitively priced for an 8-voice analog polyphonic synth. And it is very hands-on with all essential knobs and buttons on the front panel.

    The strings and pads are the main reason I wanted a Pro-800. It sounds so good.

    Excellent synth, mine finally came this week along with a K2. I have the Model D, Neutron, 2600, Pro 1 and RD8 drum machine. My eyes are now on the Deepmind!

      You seem to have a great set of synths right there for making music, maybe you don't really need the Deepmind?

      He only has monos, obviously he wants a poly. I was tempted by the Deepmind, but love the Pro-800's small form factor and VCOs!

      @@lundswedenOf course, did not realise all were monos! Well, hard to beat P800 for the price, but the Deepmind is more versatile. Maybe it comes down to what sound he prefers.

      Hey guys ! I had the Deepmind for several weeks and sold it back. It's a good synth but kind of difficult to handle. The Pro 800 appears to be easier to grasp, plus it has VCOs which makes it less "cold" than the Deepmind 😉

      @@Timie81 Yes, Pro-800 is easier to use than Deepmind, where DM is more versatile. As a beginner's synth Pro-800 is probably a better choice. I haven't tested DM myself, so I can't really say anything about how it sounds, but the Pro-800 sounds great! Congrats on your purchase!

    I have the Roland FA and the Pro800 too which (don't tell the wife) is like a belt and suspenders as the FA pads and strings are superb. Having said that i dont think the Pro800 is getting returned.

      Roland FA is very versatile and a nice keyboard for live use! Pro-800 is different and so organic, instant early 80s vibes with a twist of horror or dystopian movie soundtrack right there! Great value for the money!

    Hi, I love this video and all the sounds you've shown. Just a quick question as I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to synths - if I baught this, how does it connect to a keyboard? And what kind of keyboard would I need to use? Thanks in advance !

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic  2 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching! You can hook any keyboard with traditional MIDI outputs (5-pin din cable) from OUT to the MIDI IN on the PRO-800. Set the keyboard to the same MIDI channel as the PRO-800 and there you go. I would recommend a keyboard that is velocity sensitive (almost all keyboards nowadays), but if it has aftertouch too, it is nice to be able to press keys harder and make the sound change a little in pitch or increase cutoff (but that gets interesting when you are more familiar with the synth and learned more about synthesis). Anyway I think the PRO-800 is a good synth to learn basics in synthesis and what parameters affects what part of the sound, since almost everything is laid out in front of you - and you don't need to do so much meny diving, when adjusting the sound and its parameters.
      You can also hook the PRO-800 to a computer using a USB cable and connect a keyboard to your computer, but then you always need to have the computer turned on to play it.

    Does it accept midi cc for all parameters?

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic  10 місяців тому +1

      It should, but MIDI specifications are not public yet, I think.

      Agreed! The originals are both expensive and need maintenance, out of reach for most of us.

    Nice demo, but to be honest, I believe it's the chorus effect that doesn't make any justice as it makes very phasing like sound into everything you play.

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic  3 місяці тому

      Thanks! Hmm, I've actually tried to give the sound a small scent of chorus. Now I gave a listen on my living room stereo system, and I can here some phasing happening. Seems stronger with higher cutoffs. Some of it seems to come from the oscs hitting on each other, and maybe also the LFO. Maybe I have to do a chorus free session, with only some reverb 😊
