Nancy didn't just get her prince. She went to live in a fairytale world where as long as you're good, you'll have a happy ending and nothing really bad ever really stick (the fact that she gave up everything and willingly left within hours of meeting Edward makes you wonder about her life). By marrying Edward, she became a queen and considering how dumb he is (affectionate), she's most likely the real ruler. My girl really got the better deal lol
Not to mention married to Edward who you just know is definitely gonna shower her with love and affection because of how much of a romantic he is

The reason Idina didn’t sing in this film is because she wasn’t really asked to. She says it worked out better because she said this was one of her favorite films to be in because it was the first movie where she didn’t feel like she made it in for her singing, but for her acting. She said she felt like she actually made it big in the acting world. Now since then she made other acting roles that didn’t have her sing so she was much more comfortable singing in the second one which is great and I think it also just makes sense for her character since she lives in Andalasia now.

And it does make sense for her character that she sings in the second one. That is perfect.
This movie would not have worked without Amy Adams, she nailed that animated Disney princess character, she did more than just voice act her whole body jumped out of a story book and that’s one of the main reasons I could sit through this movie as an adult. Not just her, but everyone’s performances.
One of my favorite details of this film is that they made Giselle an amalgamation of Disney princesses, and they had multiple Disney princesses make cameos throughout (having Jodi Benson with the fish tank was top notch 😂)
And the soap opera with Belle and the Beast, it even has the Beauty and the Beast song playing in the background.
And the old men being the chimney sweeps from Mary Poppins
Nancy is a normal new yorker in this, they reserved her singing for the sequel to show how she transforms into an Andalasian. Watch the sequel, she's amazing in there.
It’s a silly film but fun. Yeah the composers addressed the lack of singing for Idina Mendel at the disenchanted premier. they admitted wth were they thinking. But idina was just happy to have a role being one of her first live action roles after being on Broadway
I laughed when you said you might not like it, I knew you would. This was definitely ahead of it's time and mostly holds up. There are so many cameos by Disney voice actors in this, it's great. Julie Andrews was the narrator. The pregnant mom who answers the door was Pocahontas's singing voice. Paige O'Hara played Princess Belle (the women in the soap opera Nathaniel was watching), Jodie Benson (Robert's secretary) voiced Princess Ariel - hense the fish tank. So fun.
I always really enjoyed this film! It kind of good-naturedly pokes fun at the Disney formula and subverts it just a bit. I always figure that Idina's character (Nancy?) was more of a hopeless romantic than Robert, so her quick decisions like her easy forgiveness of him and her choice to leave with fellow hopeless romantic Edward make a little more sense from that lens. I'm glad she got her happily ever after too. :)
There are so many Disney references hidden in this movie. I can’t even list them all but they have some videos if you want to check them out! Also if you notice Roberts outfit at the ball matches the outfit her Prince Charming is wearing at the beginning of the movie.

Look up Don Bluth, a former Disney animator who left the company to make a name for himself. Probably his most 'famous' creation, the 'Dragon's Lair" video games, one of the first digital video games that used laser discs, You had to point the joystick or hit buttons at the exact right moment to make it through the game. Crowds would gather around to watch people get through the game because it was basically a short animated movie.
Don Bluth is awesome though when I said that, I meant that the character design reminded me of someone because of how well they translated the actors into animation! I poorly conveyed that in the reaction, I think, stumbling to find the right words haha
I LOVE spreading this fun fact: The old gentleman with the flowers at 21:30 are the dancers from the chim chimeny scene in Mary Poppins really amazing dancers :D
Also, the secretary at 17:20 is the little mermaid's (Ariel) voice actreess, which makes the scene with the fish funnier lol
I liked this movie a lot. But to be honest, I enjoyed Disenchanted even more. You should watch it as soon as you can. You'll be happy with Idina Menzel 😆.

So when I first saw this movie I really didn't think it would be that good but as I watched the movie it woke up my inner child. It is so funny and iconic! One of my all time favorite movies!!! Yay!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this, and you had the exact same reaction I did when it came out--how do you have Idina in a musical and NOT HAVE HER SING?! Luckily it looks like they rectify that in the sequel, I'm doing a double feature with friends on Thanksgiving ✨
True, but Idina herself mentioned she was happy to do this film cause she was casted not for her singing ability but more for acting which is what she wanted

Idina said this was one of her favorite films to be in because it was the first one where she didn’t feel like she was in just for her singing. It was the first film where she said she felt like an actual actor and made it big in the acting world.
Of course since then she’s made other roles for her acting and is more comfortable singing in the second movie.

The first time I saw this I kept expecting Idina to sing, too. Talk about a missed opportunity! I heard she sings in Disenchanted and I’m hoping that’s true. I’ll probably watch that over the holiday weekend.
DnD rules. The evil queen dragon is a monster type, not beast/ animal type. Thats why Giselle's magic wouldnt work on the queen.

Idina actually didn’t want to sing in this film, I think it’s pretty great because she wanted to show off her acting skills.
