Levy barreling down that hill with no feet will never get old.
Great work by Sarah in describing the bike’s attributes. Her and Levy make a really solid team.
Great job! Love the way you guys simplfly the bikes capabilities and matching the rider! Keep it up!
Couldn't agree more. Sarah and Mike are very competent and are able to communicate this in a pleasant way.
Guys, thank you for these quality shot reviews. No stupid jumpcuts, digital zooms every 0.2 secs, just beautifull shots and nice commentary about bikes.
Cannondale Scalpel Hi-Mom
I cannot enfatize how muy I'm loving this XC video series, thanks Pinkbike
12k and I’m still only getting half a fork🙄🙄
😄
It’s incredible. I wouldn’t want a bike without a Lefty.
Ttue
Watching Sarah on these climbs is awesome, she's a power house flying up these trails.
Yeah she is great xc Racer!
@@primoholzfeller8844 If she does BC Bike Race again, or any kind of race like that, I hope they let her take a camera along so she can film it. Would've been awesome to see her ripping up those trails.
That thin chainstay is killing me lol.
Cannondale...
So the chainstay? how about the lefty?
How about the frame voids and the inevitable bottom bracket misalignment that’s defined cannondale for years?
George Clark I broke so many scalpels.
Oooo.. Bike experts
the black and gold looks sick
Just ordered this today along with an AXS dropper. Should be here in a week! Thanks for making this great video, I was on the fence and $13K all in wasn’t an easy decision. You certainly helped me out!
Y’all surprised bout the price. This is the field test. Not the field trip. Keep up the work pink bike!
Great review. This bike looks awesome!
I still think the 2019 field test intro was the best they have ever made
2020 was the best
the beer bottle opening via whip and cool music w/ that chipmunk singing?
@@LexZolnir yeah
Love the content and the bike is sexy, just wish you would review the 4k - 5k model which still pricey would be the model more people would be looking at
Love these Cannondale Lefty bikes. Truly one of a kind on the Road. The most beautiful bikes i've ever own and i've owned quite a few over the years! A lil bit on the Pricey end but it's Uniqueness and Different from any Others....
*I love the **Latest.Bike** . The standard seat that cMe with the bike was incredibly uncomfortable, but a quick seat swap made the bike so much more enjoyable.*
The bots are out.
Want to see SantaCruz Blur and FRM Anakin in tests. Thx for great work!
@Pinkbike - thank you for doing a budget bike test before getting to this - takes a little bit of the paint out of purchasing a bike that would probably weigh less than a stack of singles required to purchase it.
i got myself a Ultimate HI Mod after watching this vid truly beast
Nice, still waiting for Canyon.
Tomorrow!
Pinkbike I’m eagerly waiting for the „down-country“ (ugh..) bikes reviews, since it looks like the bike industry finally started designing bikes for my kind of riding style.
I desperately want a super capable enduro bike, but it just isn’t the right tool for my everyday type of riding..
I ride gravity since the early 2000s and it looks like I finally don’t need more than 2 bikes anymore, since the geometry of the new low travel bikes got so awesome.
For the super steep and rooty DH stuff which my local bikeparks are full of - I live in the Harz mountains of Germany - I’ll still keep a higher mid tier aluminum DH bike(think a used DH rig from 3-4 seasons ago for 2500€) but for everything else something like the Spur seems perfect to me!
Great review- I’m riding on a 2013 Scalpel 1 and the relaxed geometry is one thing that is a big benefit especially when your 6’4”. Did you feel the longer wheelbase was inhibitory on tight switchbacks? Also perhaps there is some real benefit to the 52 if your running a 34 up front? It’s always nice to have a bale out gear when your stuck on long steep climbs especially for longer events and races 40km + rides or events.
How much I love this awesome single shaft bike 🥰💪
My fav Pub and fav trail in Valleycliffe.
Hey Sarah love you reviews. For XCO Races did you prefer the Scalpel over Epic and Supercaliber? Who is a better more rounded versatile bike? I’m afraid of the Scapel to be pedal inefficient, from Epic to have a harsh ride due to suspension setting and from Supercaliber to not be as confortable. I’ll appreciate your advice. Regards Jose
Cannondale is the Apple of mountain bike world
Liking the Cannondale, great test guys, don't listen to the haters.
Great video, you guys make an excellent team. I see fewer XC bikes where I ride (east coast U.S.) than 10 years ago and wonder about the market for a $12k XC bike, but I suppose the buyers must be out there. I could actually see a bike like this being a great option for the tight, twisty trails we have around here. Are we just falling for the longer-lower-slacker, weight-doesn't-matter trendiness? Don't know, but my current bike is about 8lbs heavier and a foot longer than this one :)
I have the non-hi-mod version of this and can tell you its snappy, aggressive, and feels glued to the ground. Bought very lightly-used as my first mtb and i have been STOKED on it since.
12gs jesus thats 10gs more than my last bike build.
@BP 🤘
you dont even get a carbon railed saddle for that price?! ridiculous
Or a dropper post, this is Apple levels of overpricing
Duncan well it’s a cross country so they don’t need droppers
Soup
@@fazza2104 most world cup racers use them now, the benefits far outweigh the weight penalty.
Duncan true
Doesn’t cannondale use a lot of proprietary stuff? Like the crank?
Yup, that's the one thing that frustrates the crap out of me with my current (older) Scalpel
Some scalpel models use sram DUB pf30 BBs. With the new fork called lefty ocho you can now use a normal stem too.
If you're financially able to be globe-trotting to race a bike multiple times per year, the opportunity cost of not-working for a few weeks a year could easily out-scale the price of this bike by a long ways. I hadn't really thought of that before. This is a budget option for a Dentist looking for hobby that is healthier than Porsche Track Days.
Any car hobby or motorcycle is going to be more than this bike. People talk trash about a 12k bike as they drive a car they don't need...
@@Montblanc1986 Exactly! We take out loans for cars just to get them new. I've never had to buy a bike on credit.
@@Montblanc1986 Where I live everyone needs a car. We don't live in a densely populated city where everything cn be reached by walking or all the public transit. we only have buses and they suck. So for people that live in a smaller city that is more spread with bad public transit vehicles are a necessity. Ive been into ALOT of hobbies and mountain biking is probably the most expensive and cost inflated one I've ever been into without a doubt. How come the fox shocks for my Giant Stance cost more than the fox shocks I bought for my Silverado? Lol.
I just can't get over the lefty fork, no matter how awesome
Normal Americans: why don’t they have to social distance?
Canadians: well we actually listens to safety guidelines at the beginning of the pandemic
Dumbest comment ever. The “plandemic” is a lie.
Not to be a party pooper but guidelines are still saying to social distance in BC.
Do we get a Sarah vs Levy Impossible Climb faceoff?
My first true mountain bike is a 2005 bike of the year Cannondale prophet with the Lefty front fork the Cannondale and profit label is embossed on a blood red framemy nephew wrote it in the eureka springs fat tire festival and took second place twice in the downhill races it has 150 mm of travel2-position shock setting for cross-country or free ride I upgraded the tires and the rear shock to a fox dh5 it cost me $1,700 new
At 3:23 Is that how Canadians say "decal"?
yes
British too...
Yes Canadians are gods
God I hurt my back over a year ago and haven't rode the trails since.. God I miss it... I be starting again soon.. I hope
Back injuries are no joke. Take good care of your sleep position (pillow between knees on side) and make sure your chairs have good lumbar support while you heal. Good luck man! I've been there and it's taken me about about a year to get over the worst of it and another year to go from mild pain to "feels off every once in a while".
@@conanthanoz19 thanks for the advise. I could barely walk about a year ago. Did physical therapy and use the gym to work on core muscle groups. Doc says I'm good to ride on level surface... He defiantly did not like the idea of me hitting the trails... Yet. I get there. Pure determinarion!
@@adamdowgiallo6221 I had herniated disc (from non-bike activities actually such as racquet sports and leg presses at gym). This meant sciatica down one leg that would wake me up at night in excruciating pain, huge pain walking that would lessen a little as day progressed. I tried Chiropractor (useless), new chair (sort of helpful), but biggest 2 changes was sleeping ONLY on the non-aggravated side with pillow between knees AND taking as many long walks every day as I could. I also ditched couch for a few months and literally set up a memory foam cushion on floor of living room for any tv type activities. If you can do an hour of walking, do an hour. The walks help a ton. Bicycling can help too once you get over the main hump.
I'll never understand how people can casually mention that a bike costs as much a small car without violently throwing up in their mouths.
The *Hi-Mod Ultimate* is advertised with the Carbon Lefty.. this bike is fitted with the standard Lefty Ocho 🧐
I have been into mountain bikes for essentially my entire life. I will never fathom a £12k price tag
How much money is enough to bike mountain bike?
why so many cables w/ an AXS build, two for brakes, 1 for sus lockout or 2?
Don't forget to add the propitiatory aspects of this bike to the cons. Obviously the front wheel, the fork which most people would need to have serviced by professional. I think the rear wheel is offset. How often does the fork need maintenance?
Service interval is 100 hours and RockShox has 50 hours.
It is 200 hours for a new or updated ocho
Love this bike 😍, hate the price 😬
I believe that S size is also 29", am I right?
Does using frame flex instead of a hinge for the rear suspension limit its longevity?
yeah, especially if you're a heavy weighting rider like me.
i would murder that frame flex is no time.
You should test a marlin 4 and throw the times in to compare. See what $11,600 extra gets you.
$12 000 US and no dropper post, feels bad man!
It’s an xc bike
If I pay $14,000 will they include the right side of the fork?
I just spent 2k on a new bike and now I’m broke :(
what bike
@@breadunslicer8580 asking the real questions
Bread Unslicer motobecane Hal boost 5. NX drivetrain. Full suspension. RockShox pike. Dropper and everything. Its really a steal!
Alex well yea but it hasn’t come yet and being broke isn’t very :)
@@james-xq4ke But once it arrives you will be one happy lad and you will shred them woods hard.
12k yikes I'll pass that's a down payment on a house
i mean its fully upgraded...
I envy you. Down payment here is like 60k.
@@skullsroad3642 if only that was the case maybe in the south but not in Massachusetts
@@skullsroad3642 and here it's 100k
If your house is a Sprinter Van.
Love one but I would rip all the sram off and put XTR on.
It's a lovely bike, but for that much $, it should have one of the custom-tuned Lefties from eighty-aid.com. But back to the looks, I don't get the "oh, it's so weird" reactions. Does it work well, or doesn't it? The evidence is, that within its range of travel, it works very well. If there are maintenance issues, then address them, but "oh, it looks weird" isn't helpful.
im gonna do a shoe comment, love you can wear your Blundies in Squamish in June/July...Levy no flip flops? was it 0 C* out?
Not all *blunnies are lined. Wear em everyday in Australian summer
Sarah Great!!!!
Mike: so, finally, who is this bike for?
- doctors, lawyers, hedge fund managers
Thought it was gonna be like 3-5 grand. I just laughed when they said 12k for that thing.
I thought more like 8k max. I feel like 12k is way over priced
RND babe
Cooper Douglas you’d be surprised at the bike I see at the races. I saw multiple kids at my last race on Trek Supercalibers.
កង់ស្អាត ប៉ុន្តែថ្លៃ ជិះឡានល្អជាង
Where's the SE 1 review?
S size comes with 29 inch wheels , not 27.5 as mentioned
4:45 does 'it' refer to the lux or the canondale. Please be more clear
Please tell me that price this bike?
Thank goodness I have always wanted to sell a Kidney to buy a bike that can smash my rocks.
12k no dropper post
Most XC bikes don't come with droppers as racers/casual riders don't use them and they don't see the same kind of downs as a trail/enduro bike would so they're not needed. But, a few XC racers are starting to use droppers on particular courses as of late. I personally would never want an XC bike...no judgement tho to each their own.
Why is it that you don't see much from Cannondale in the enduro world? Or is it just me..?
I do not ride xc. Still a good vid though
Even the Canyon Lux is not as ugly as this bike. And I'm not saying that because of the awesome looking fork.
Somebody’s Mother. “You spent $12,000 G’s on a New Bike and only got 1 Fork!”.. Schmeckel!
Other than the fork this is a really good looking bike.
I wish I could afford it
Why is the lefty fork so important
Ben Jamin Burke weight savings
Don’t get me to 259 subs without any videos But what about the sacrifice of a better suspension
Dude my bike weighs almost 15 pounds more
Matthew Albitz but it prob cost 10k less...
Have guys heard of a MTB brand Called Fezzari, they are a company made in Utah (USA) and Revealed their new model called the Delano Peak!! Carbon frame fox shocks, 36 fork, dropper, etc...
They had a press release on their website
Solid brand and great value. Just bought the Signal Peak and loving this bike. @Pinkbike have reviewed their bikes for a couple of years in a row and their reviews helped me narrow down my purchase.
Cliff Corder ya I just ordered the Abajo Peak and it’s pretty fun to ride with!!
That’s cool but I’d rather the grim donut
12000 usd 😲 😔
I can get a GX spec Tallboy AND a GX/NX spec Enduro for that price...f*ck me.
I can get a rockrider AM500S for 2000€ with a Sram XO1 1x12, Rockshox Pike Ult, Sram Guide 4 pot brakes and mavic wheels...
Don't get me wrong I love mountain biking, but if anyone thinks theres twelve thousand dollars of value in any mountain bike they're insane. From a pure manufacturing and materials cost perspective its truly painful to see. Pure hype tax...
It's why everybody on a mountain bike is so old because they're the only people that can afford it
Price/Performance is not a concept that applies to bikes like this. If you want a fast and light bike you will buy the 5000$ variant. This particular one is about having the best money can buy, no more, no less.
always thought the lefty fork was just ****ing stupid
It’s lightweight
have you had the chance to ride one? i was able to ride one about 2 years ago and after doing so it felt just like any other fork at the time. I just find it odd if their are so many benefits to the design then why doesn't anyone else make a similar designed fork, sometimes i think cannondale just wants to be "different" not necessary "better"
@@fazza2104 weight doesn't dictate winners - just weenies...
konanoobiemaster yeah but xc people are all about lightweight and it is and it works so it’s fine
@@fazza2104 except they've been around for more than a decade and nobody rides them so.... k
That bike is the “Roadie” of XC bikes. Not for me, but to each his own.
When is the grim donut part 2!!!!
How about comute, say 4 miles 🤔
This bike costs 12000 USD and it doesn't even has a dropper post!😅
It’s an xc bike
$12k is criminal, no reason for this whatsoever .
LMFAO prices of bikes are skyrocketing like house prices but no where near the resale value..
Beware: Read Cannondale’s fine print in their Warranty Policy. They may use it against you for their best interest. My $5000.000 carbon fiber frame Jekyll broke after six years of use. Cannondale never made a finding that it was due to use or abuse. A hairline crack formed at a weak point in the frame. The bike was sold to me with a lifetime warranty on the frame. The best offer Cannondale gave me, under their lifetime warranty, was 20% off of retail - yes, that's right 20% off of retail. I fought them on it over a two month period and lost. So, I am now stuck with a 34lb paperweight. Cannondale has what I feel is the worse warranty in the bike business. If you do purchase a Cannondale bike and something goes wrong, know that they probably will not work with you at any level in your best interest. In my opinion, they do do not value you as a customer, they only value your money. This has been my experience.
I Broke my seat of a roadbike that Cannondale didn’t make anymore, and now choosing this xc bike for retail mjnus 20% is good deal to me. I’m saving almost 5k$ on the bike and feels like a good deal. True it’s not free but I got more value that way. Hopefully I get my bike next week. Scalpel Hi-Mod 1
You may want to check your math. If you paid full retail for their high end model ($12,000) you saved $2,400; that is unless Cannondale charged you 2X retail for their warranty replacement bike, which they would if they could get away with it. Anyway, when I pay for a lifetime warranty for a high end bike, I expect a lifetime warranty; I'm not wealthy. Have great fun getting into mountain biking. You will have lots to learn and many new experience as you climb the mountain bike learning curve and explore new places off of paved roads.
12. Thousand. Dollars.
This bike is anxiety booster
How does this bike cost more than a motorcycle?
yeah, makes no sense to me either.
