I was about to leave for the Marines in Aug 1974. My uncle drove me to my girlfriend who had moved away. My brother riding shotgun, me in the back in his convertible. Beautiful summer day and Suavecito just making it a perfect day. Wonderful memory
When I was living in Korea, I had someone from the US send me this album. My main idea was to have a Korean painter/artist make a very large painting on canvas of the cover and frame it. The guy did a fantastic job on it. He detailed it very, very well. When I moved back to the States I brought it back with me and it hangs on the wall to this day at home. People that come to the house constantly comment about it. I show them the album and they look at the painting. The word "amazing" is what I hear from them. Thank you Malo for coming into existence.............
One of my favorite love songs. Makes me proud of being Chicano, too. No matter what you are though, it's just a beautiful song that grabs you and refuses to let go.
This is such a precious piece of music, a salsa of beautiful vocals, gentle Rhumba rhythms and instrumental licks - if only ears had taste buds. I'm especially drawn to Jorge Santana's guitar playing which softly waves and pulses in the background. You have to listen carefully to hear his magic. This is truly an enduring and delightful classic. Malo means bad in Spanish, but this is bad in the best way. RIP Jorge, thanks for the licks. Rainbows of love to you, brother.
Hello Mr Houlgate. It's a small big world. A photographer in the Eugene area just posted pictures of a recent Malo concert and I had to ask if it was the same group that wrote Suavacito.... We covered this poorly in one of my early bands. 🫣
@@markelliottwest Hello Mark, I don't think this is an easy song to cover, so don't be so hard on yourself. Malo has been known to show up in some places. It's usually a blend of very few older members with some younger ones. I've seen videos taken within San Francisco's Mission District where Jorge Santana and his more famous brother grew up. Jorge went on to perform in other bands, including Abel and the Prophets. One of my "spiritual" friends played bass with him.
My late Uncle, Coke Escovedo, called me at work and told me about this song, the group, and that he had played a couple of tracks on the album. The song played all day on the bay area rock station. It was awesome. He was so excited about the song and the fact that he was on the album. He was a great percussionist and is dearly loved and missed. Rest in peace to. I think about you alot.
It's hard to express the flood of memories this beautiful song brings back, but I know all of these comments know exactly how it felt. True story behind the song. Guy is a Jr. in High School; flunks algebra and has to take freshman algebra again. Meets freshman girl in the class. Used to ride his bike to her house. One day, he got there, she was with another guy, he knew it was over, broke his heart, but we got one of the best songs ever out of it.
This song reminds me of the time I met a girl in one of my classes in Jr. high school. It was a time of Suavecito. She had the nicest smile, beautiful eyes & a beautiful heart. A memory never forgotten.
This song takes me back to being at my Tia's house. While she was enjoying a day didn't matter-never mattered what kind of day good or bad. She would always know just how to pick up anyone's spirits. This might have been the first cassette I ever bought, and I damn near wore it out in those halcyon San Fernando Valley days before Vietnam took over my life. And I STILL have this cassette!
I will always this song because it will always remind me of being 16 years old because that was the first time I heard it. Wish I could go back in time but, grateful to be alive today, at 70 years old , can still say, I will always love this song. Marion Hunter.
I remember finding this song after many years and the first comment I read was ‘I remember listening to this song in Nam with my buddies.’ That broke my heart because so many young men close to me lost their lives there or after they returned home.’ Such a senseless, unnecessary war IMO.

Guillermo "Jorge" Santana (Malo)Born on June 13, 1951. He died on May 14, 2020. He was a Mexican guitarist, brother of musician Carlos Santana. He was a member of the Latin rock band from San Francisco, Malo which reached the top 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100 with "Suavecito" in 1972. He died in San Rafael, California, of natural causes on May 14, 2020, aged 68.

Musica inesquecível, swing americano, balanço mexicano, instrumental, vocal e percussões simplesmente espetaculares. No Brasil também se curtiu muito essa canção.
2019 Malo still playing Live. My friend caught them at the fairgrounds and she streamed Suavecito. Brought me back to the day. Classic music never dies
For years I searched for this song.I had only heard it a time or two on the radio so I didn't really know what it was called or who even sang it. All I could remember were a few words and I got a couple of them wrong. I mentioned it on UA-cam asking if anyone remembered what song I was referring to. I didn't expect to get an answer but I did and I am so thankful to that person for leading me in the right direction to find it. This happened over twenty years ago so I can't remember who helped me but wherever you are, thank you again and may the Lord richly bless you now and always.
This song reminds me of all the times I got heart broken. Having the faith that true love actually existed in my world when it was actually quite the opposite. I’m happy for y’all though. Someone gotta experience true love, and someone gotta be the one to experience the real pain. The bad side of love.
Late 1960's, early 1970's was a time of the Chicano Movement & Pride. Malo, Santana, El Chicano, etc. came to the fore producing memorable, timeless music on a level which hasn't been reached 50 years later. Earlier, Willy G. & Thee Midniter's Dreaming Casually, That's All were anthems for Cholos and the Low Rider's on Whittier Blvd.

When my supervisor, Leslie Walker, does her "la la la" singing, it reminds me of this song. Actually I added this song to my playlist in memory of my dear and much-missed friend Sylvia Church, who told me that she grew up in the area where Santana and Malo got started. I haven't been able to find an original pressing of this wonderful song (with "Nena" on the other side, but I did pay $2.00 for an oldie pressing with "Peace" on the other side. Thanks for having this song!
Latin music has crossed over into american mainstream since the 20's, starting with the Tango and Bolero rhythms and dance styles. In the 40's it was cuban rhythms and the conga dance that influence the big band sound and ballroom dancing. In the 50's it was the major influence of Brazilian Bossa Nova and Cuban clave that generated the still ongoing genre of Latin Jazz. In the 60's Jorge and Carlos Santana were influenced by the very popular Afro Caribbean music intermixed with R&B called Latin Soul and Boogaloo that came straight out of New York. The ultimate influence of Latin music in american mainstream is literally going on presently, with the World wide popularity of Reggaetón. For those of us who were raised under the influence of Latin Music from all Latin America, as well as Rock, R&B, pop, and Jazz from the States the Fusion of all these styles/genres is simply the magnificent reality that from many cultures we can become one.

Brings back awesome memories in the !970's ,teen years in SF Mission district growing up!! OMG 50 years!!
I wanna go back. We had it so good back then. 💃🕺
Rest in peace Jorge and Arcelio Garcia... Both gone within months of each other.. 2020..
Beautiful music.. Rest with God
This song was perfectly written and performed perfectly. This song brings back fond memories.
This song will always have a moment in my car at least once during every summer while I’m alive. Brings me back to around 01-05 growing up in Hayward California riding down Hesperian blvd with one of my elders. They would play this on 98.1 kiss fm. This and all day music by war.
I was 15years old when this classic was released. A time when many of us, being young absolutely, enjoyed this ageless classic!
Also 15 and remember playing this over & over. Good times, great memories ✌️
This is my favorite song of all of them. I met my lady when this song was playing and every time I hear this song I think about her.
Rest in Peace Jorge Santana. You were a good man.
I'm sure he did his brother proud
Just one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard! It makes my day.
Thank you, Johanna. We appreciate your love for, Suavecito. Much love to you and yours, MALO.

Miss you Tata. Your light will never go out. ❤
This might have been the first cassette I ever bought, and I damn near wore it out in those halcyon San Fernando Valley days before Vietnam took over my life. And I STILL have this cassette!
“ Welcome Home! “ Maxsdad.
RIP Jorge Santana, great musician, Carlos Santa brother...
WOW Jorge's No!?
Jorge Play in Haven, in order the World can get the right Inspiration for Love & Peace ....Too many Great Artist passed away.. time for us for reflection... "What they did and left to this World".." Love in the Music; Love in the lyrics . Love to People by them Performes. Thank you !!
.God Bless ALL !!!
And now RIP Arcelio Garcia. So sad.
Wow reading these comments brings a smile to my heart... I heard this song on pandora recently and instantly fell in love with it and had to find it on UA-cam!! But seeing these comments blew my mind that this song isn't new !!! This song feels like a warm summer evening with loved ones and the night is just young.
Jorge Santana thank you for your music. RIP now.
Cada vez que escucho esta bella canción.....SUENA MEJOR.....Épocas bellas y dignas de recordar...alegría,simpleza
,verdad ,esperanza.
Such a smooth song...
Love the ending jam!

Danny Garcia, thank you for your support.
I'm no Dr. by any stretch, but dying at 68 as you mention, seems something less that "natural".
@@z651z123. The reason for his death was not informed in detail. Really from natural causes it would be if he was an elderly person over 80 years old, that's my opinion.
Such a wonderful beat...just makes you want to get up and start dancing around and smiling at everyone. Brings back many long ago beautiful memories.
Desde hace 50 años conocí ésta canción.. Y AHORA M GUSTA AÚN MAS!!!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I have always loved this song. I wish this kind of music would be more prevalent. Sheer beauty.
No one could ever sing Suavecito like Gorge Santana ..and his band is also the best....Thank you for sharing your music
Always respect Lisa
Sam tapia, I agree with you
Cruising Whittier in the 70s...best times of LA lowrider culture. East Los lowriders que viva!
Chicano Park in the mid-70's. Summer in San Diego. 50th Anniversary this April! Mas firme que wow.
This brings back so many memories of Chicano Park. Music and cars, friends and family. On the East Coast now, missing my home town.
I was 16 years old when I heard this song. Loved it then and still love it today. Marion Hunter.

My husband has played this song to me and sang it to me and danced with me to this song. I swear our first daughter was conceived while this beautiful song was playing. BTW, my name is Linda and it was destiny ❤
Art Valdez love that story linda♥️
Hello, Linda. We are happy to hear of this wonderful memory that this song helped create. We are so happy to bring our fans the MALO Legacy tour with a new stage show and music. Thank you once again for your support of MALO music.
Art Valdez I used to sing this to my wife also (girlfriend back then) her name is also Linda!
Like the very start of it all.God, we were so fortunate to have come along at this time to get in and enjoy the new music at that time.we still have it to listen to and still enjoy the memories.
I’m a 68 year old white dude but I love this song my sister boyfriend’s brother had the eight track whenever he can over I would jump in his car and play it
This came out before I was born, I think my old man still has the album. This is the stuff my parents jammed to! Classic then and classic now!
My wife and i always danced to this before she went to heaven
When my supervisor, Leslie Walker, does her "la la la" singing, it reminds me of this song. Actually I added this song to my playlist in memory of my dear and much-missed friend Sylvia Church, who told me that she grew up in the area where Santana and Malo got started. I haven't been able to find an original pressing of this wonderful song (with "Nena" on the other side, but I did pay $2.00 for an oldie pressing with "Peace" on the other side. Thanks for having this song!
My daughter born in 1976 sent me this song because she remembered it from our music loving family.❤ brings so many memories ❤
