He also seems to be missing that it's asking what's more IMPORTANT, not what you want to live in. Ignore the past and you're doomed to repeat it, and the present and future are dependent on the past.
I will never get over how the unique Tri-color stage tied to this event combined with its unique music felt like fighting a final boss but just in a multiplayer setting. There was even dynamic music that cheered you on if you were doing great for your team!
I bought Splatoon 3 last week specifically to play in the Grand Splatfest. I enjoyed the first two games to the fullest but never got the time to play splatoon 3 until this week as I knew I had to cast my vote to team past and represent the first game. But that last day was a non-stop amazing tribute to the first two games, and will be a day I remembered for years to come.
i got the game just a bit before the second to last splatfest, and INSTANTLY fell in love with it. bought the dlc like 2 weeks after buying the game because i knew i wouldn’t be putting this series down anytime soon lol. even though i haven’t been here for very long, the grand festival was phenomenal and absolutely oozing with love from the creators to the fan base, i could feel the collective excitement and sadness of all the fans before me who watched another game come to an end (and i’ll see it again when 2 and 3’s servers shut down one day 😢)
As someone who's played since the first test fire of Splatoon 1, I realized a while back that I really can't handle PvP anymore. I basically only play Salmon Run now (and Side Order when it came out), as that's much more my speed. That said, I still turn up for all the splatfests just for the vibes, and among them all Grand Festival was spectacular. I legit got emotional when the Squid Sisters sang the ending theme of the first game after the festival was over. Whatever happens with the series going forward, I'll always have great memories of my time with Splatoon.
Also, it's funny that Arlo calls it a brand new IP when the first game was announced 10 years ago. Guess that's how long Arlo has been thinking of making that video lol. Also also, while I adore the series, I do think it has its fair share of issues, technical and otherwise. Still a fantastic series and I love it to bits - there's just always room for improvement.
@joeydestructo its "new" compared to it's other neighbors so to speak, like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc or whatever I think he means... It is nice tho to see it become a new main stay into the roster of those big names 🥰
I'm the same way. I used to be ultra competitive, but now I find myself enjoying single-player games like Animal Crossing and Zelda. I enjoy games with my friends like Mario Party and Clubhouse, but that's about it when it comes to PvP.
I mean, Salmon Run can get hella hard, are you an Overfisher ? No ob with being one, just asking if you've become one or are just casually playing in Salmon run~
If you don't like turf war, you should try Salmon Run! I'm the same way with turf war, I loose so much it's not fun, but salmon run is fun because it's all about cooperation rather that competition. I think it's worth trying if you really do want to enjoy Splatoon. And yeah, it's amazing to see how much love and effort is poured into this franchise.
Its weird because ive always been the opposite and felt like i sucked at salmon run and been way more motivated to play ranked and turf war, which probably has sometying to do with one being more rewarding long term and the other being more rewarding short term. Salmon run is good tho because it adapts the difficulty for you if you arent doing well, it just might take a few losses to get there which can be demotivating (ive also gotten a lot better at salmon run as of late)
@@pomotako I mean just because their called ranked modes doesnt mean you cant play them casually. Open is great for that, Im omega casual at splatoon 3 and I still play the ranked modes in open from time to time for fun.
Not only did they have this huge concert on the last night, from Thursday to Saturday they had the three different groups alternating on 3 stages. If you just liked one group, you could follow them stage-to-stage like a groupie. If you just wanted to see the performances on the big stage, you could do that too. And I think they had like 3 choreographed, live-versions of songs for each of the 3 groups. I'm not sure if they just ported them over from the Hologram concerts, but it's still crazy that they went through the effort to port those to a virtual stage and even sync up crowd glowstick animations sequences, light shows, and pyrotechnics for each song FOR THE EVENT LOBBY. They also made unique victory music for each team AND unique match music for the final day Tricolor battles. Most of the event polish wasn't even for the event gameplay. The week before the event they also had a suped-up version of Salmon Run with new custom weapons that you use to repel an invasion of the event stage. It was a lore and gameplay win. The global quota was for 700M golden eggs (each run you don't fail gives 70-130), and the event ended with over 1.5 Billion eggs collected - just to show how much people enjoyed it. This was by far the most effort I've seen anyone put into a PvP event. I was stunned that they had the funds to do something like that in a game with no microtransaction economy. They only really sell the one DLC story per game and amiibos (that can be re-used on sequels), so I have no idea where they got the cash.
Nintendo is a huge company with a lot of money saved up from the success of the Ds, 3ds, Wii and the Switch. All the money doesn't need to come directly from Splatoon 3. Nintendo is able to invest in stuff like this because they understand the importance of creating strong brands that people associate with high quality. They're not in it for a quick cheap buck at the expense of sacrificing quality, like 90% of other publishers out there. Investing in stuff like this is important to make sure people stay interested in Splatoon and will choose to buy the next system and game because they had a good experience with this one.
Merch sales? Maybe not globally, but I imagine Japan buys a lot of plushies, shirts, etc. Also, the Splatoon devs are the same team that does the Animal Crossing games and a) New Horizons sold 40+ million copies b) they ended development for ACNH very early onto that game's life, so I'd bet that time and resources were used for S3 instead.
It won't be a prequel. How would they bring back the weapon classes added in 2 and 3? How would they bring back Salmon Run? What about Lil' Judd and his plot to take out Judd? A prequel would mean ditching everything that was established in the series thus far, and that would upset _many_ fans. The most likely scenario is that the game will be centered around celebrating the past, history, and traditions of whatever the next location will be. I'm looking forward to that!
Yeah I was thinking either prequel which idk if they'd do but the concept would be awesome or just a single player mode closer to Splatoon 1s and a super super heavy focus on Callie and Marie in said story mode.
I got convinced to join Past because of the song they put out which mentioned "planting seeds for the future". I felt that I kinda resonated with that, everything becomes the past eventually, so it is important we leave a legacy behind we can look back on fondly and be grateful for.
I would love if the splatfests could be downloaded and repeated in some kind of limited manner, since I’ve never really had the opportunity to pick up the game with it still being full priced. Sounds like it was really cool, though!
Results aside, I really enjoyed Grandfest. Having Tricolor available from the start and with every stage allowed me to play the ones from the fests I had missed (I pretty much only played Tricolor the whole event). The final one was also nice, with the fizzbangs and the music changing depending on who got the 2nd signal. The Three Wishes performance also made me emotional, which I rarely get at videogames.
I bought Splatoon 3 July of last year, and it quickly became one of my favorite and most-played games ever. Now I'm really looking forward to Splatoon 4, and also wondering how Past winning is going to affect it.
Splatoon was always a game i wish I could play in earnest, but 2 and 3 came out in a time where i just didn't have internet good enough to play online. I envy all the folks who were able to stick through to the end of the game's lifespan and be a part of these events and experiences.
It's sort of funny that past won considering one of the overarching themes of Splatoon is that the world should keep moving forward rather than being stuck in the past.
There is a difference between learning from the past + appreciating it and being stuck in it! Just like one can be motivated by all the possible futures and someone can feel extremely intimidated and scared and paranoid about the unknown future. Same with the present. Someone can live yheir fullest, take action right now, but some take that in a way where they don't care what the consequences are for others or later or don't change from what they know doesn't work. All have bad sides. But all have good sides too
@@Crystalitarso true. This is why I honestly didn’t want to pick a side, they’re all equally important to accept in order to live a happy life (Team Future sweeps tho)
I think there’s a clear difference with Callie and Marie celebrating their past together and the very clear messaging that the planet should keep moving forward, as we see with the antagonists of octo expansion and splat 3 all being stuck in the past.
If you have an amiibo of any of the idols from any of the games, you can still access the Grand Festival area from the amiibo box in the city. You can even see it in any of the three versions; evening, night, and dawn.
That's just unfortunate. Well, you can still get a nice taste of it through secondhand footage. I missed the Callie vs Marie fest in S1 because I didn't know Splatfests were a 1-day event, so I never saw any of them.
Random opinion I had on the deserted island Splatfest choices in particular (I've never played Splatoon, I just remember when this particular Splatfest was being talked about for whatever reason): I like to think of the question being about which you'd want to have *more* of, more help with, rather than "you can only pick one of these things". Because obviously if you only get to have one of the three and NONE of the others, then yeah you gotta get the survival tools or else you die. Instead, in my mind it's more of like when you're making a character in some survival game, and you get to pick a set of perks you get to have, or you get to pick from a few different characters that have different strengths. In general terms, maybe you pick a perk so you grow food faster or get hungry slower, or one that makes it easier to build buildings, or easier to hunt animals; or for a more specific example, the various characters in Don't Starve have wildly different perks and abilities from each other that can help in one way or another, but you can still survive and beat the game with any of them. I think that the Splatfest's question is better/more interesting if you frame it that way: assume that you'll still be able to survive by default, but *then* you get some kind of bonus from stuff you bring with you. If you choose the tools, then you have an easier time building shelter and making fire and cutting down food and trees and stuff, instead of having to use a random sharp rock as a knife; if you pick the food, then you don't have to go into "eating cooked rats and drinking coconut water" right away, you still get to have some good food to enjoy for longer and help you have more easy energy for longer at the start; and if you pick fun, then you'll have more stuff to entertain yourself for longer while you're stuck on a boring deserted island, instead of having to make a volley ball into an imaginary friend, or something. I don't know how much of how the Splatfest itself "framed" the scenario/choices in a particular way, but I think that thinking of it in that way makes it a lot more interesting and multi-faceted.
and now that you mention it, Marie won over Callie in Splat1, and Marie ended up playing a larger role in splat2's story I thought Marie's quips were better suited in general as a navigational guide/partner character, but in light of the splatfest results, that likely sealed her role in that
I’m not a competitive person either but I love Splatoon because it’s a bonding point for me and my siblings. We all got to rep team present and had an awesome weekend playing with each other and friends. It was such and amazing tribute to the games and the times I’ve spent with friends and family playing the games.
There's probably not going to be any new updates, but I could totally see them doing one more Splatfest next year for Splatoon's 10th anniversary. Like come on, how could they not commemorate the milestone with a Splatfest?
I’m so upset I missed the last fest. I don’t know this was the end. I was hungover all weekend and even got into the concert but I never actually joined a team. FML. Hopefully Splatoon 4 will be better.
seasonal splatfests are still going to be active, repeated themes sure but it's still going at least, so expect one in halloween (fall/autumn), christmas (winter), spring and summer, and big runs will continue for now
11:18 medieval splatoon was the first thing that came to my mind, but then you said that thing about splatoon lore in the past and wowwwwww that's a good idea. It's so exciting, and past winning imo is the best in this aspect, as it's already pretty ~future vibes~
Grand Festival was heavily enjoyable with the live performance. I am heavily excited that Team Past and The Squid Sisters Won the whole Event. Classic can never be replaced :D
after the splatfest was over the next unit of time there was all of the end songs for the campains in the splafest plaza but it was a morning vertion rather than it all just going back to normal imidiatly. i cried. who would think to put in the efort to have a whole set of 3 new songs just for the poeple who came to wait in the plaza for the splatfest results.
Good job, Fellow Team Past maniacs! We owned every category of matches! The concerts and venue were amazing and my matches were nearly all very fun! GG to Present and Past!
I would love to see any form of more splatoon content from you! Absolutely loved the series and all that it has brought us. So splatfest topic ones should be a fun one haha
I really didn’t expect to spend so much time just watching the concert but found myself constantly going back to do so since I love Splatoon music so much. It was such a fun and, as the name implies, GRAND event. I’m so glad I got to experience it 🙏this game is SO full of personality and life like no one multiplayer game is nowadays
I’m happy that with any of the idol amiibo you can revisit grand festival on any night to take more photos and enjoy the atmosphere and concerts again, especially nice if you missed a night
Past is the most important to me because without the past, you can never learn from your mistakes to make the better future. To us peeps on Team Past, not about living in the past, it’s about learning from the past.
I’ve never been to a big festival with booths and different stages. It was so cool! I was so immersed 🤩. It did feel like I was at a concert. Big tv and volume helped. So fetch!
I joined halfway through, I totally get it. Certain things are much more polished now. Especially the maps. Though I still miss Splatoon 2 map design when I see them( I was very young when I played the first game and never played the second game so it's more like jealousy), Splatoon 3 has improved alot with maps, because they went back about 75% through the update lifespan to tweak every single map. Some maps get minor tweaks, while other maps got a complete overhaul. One map was so bad at launch it had two overhauls lmao
I think there’s 3 ways a Past Theme could influence the next game (though I agree it was the team I resonated the least with for this reason): A deeper focus on the Turf War that caused the Inkling & Octoling split which could include video clips of Cuddlefish and Octavio or even have them be influencing the new idols, the mammals like Mr. Grizz are not all extinct and some were frozen/ put into test tubes which are now emerging with them as antagonists for the campaign and/or a new playable race, or some greater focus on the squid sisters as Idols, either teaming up with the new leads or enough of a time skip that we get the campaign showing a side story that they were up to between the end of Rise of the Mammalians and now. It could be simpler than that, maybe just influencing the Idols musical style to be more nostalgic in some way, like into 80s hip hop or Boy Bands of the 90s (that would be a twist I’d love, especially if we get 4 idols and some sort of 4-way battle mode). I’d definitely be into your opinions of Splatoon themes at some point but I totally understand if you’re plate is too full for something like that for a while. I will say the only reason I personally went with Food for desert island is because I have digestive issues and in order to at least have enough energy to make a shelter I’d need to have some sustenance I know wouldn’t have me in too much pain to function. For most I’d understand Gear being the smart choice.
Yes! Please make a video talking about your splatfest choices!!! I love Splatoon and I can't think of a person I want to hear more talk about the game more than he already does lol I promise I'll share that vid w friends!
I played most of friday and sunday. It was such an amazing expierence as a part of the Dutch Splatoon Community. It was amazing, my heart is full, the results are here and I'm fine with it. I was team present. The music made me want to cry.
I played in Grand Festival all weekend and it was amazing how amazing it was. I don't think I could properly convey what it felt on Day 3, walking up to the dark main stage, and then the lights come on for Three Wishes. I played Team Future since this was going to decide the ~future~ of Splatoon. Yeah, didn't win, but the experience was worth the participation (besides, I didn't win a single Splatfest all year. Last time I was on the winning side was Team Handshake). Also yeah I totally want both the videos of Arlo talking about Splatoon as a series, and him discussing every Splatfest and the logic for them (I also picked Team Gear for practicality reasons in that event).
Yo it was so good. it had throw backs, the zone was so well done, it went all out. It was a celebration of the in game music (which is phenomenal) as much as it was a celebration of the last splatfest.
The Grand Festival Splatfest was phenomenal! Seeing all the references from all 3 games, all the idols singing together, seeing the other in-game characters as well. Even the tri-color battle map was unique as well. This was a proper send-off to Splatoon 3. I would be interested if you made another video about Splatoon. :) It's just so amazing how far Splatoon has come. From a brand new IP that people were uncertain of to becoming one of the best new IPs from Nintendo.
I'd definitely watch the Team Choices video. Also, the final splatfest has always effected the next game, so it's exciting to see what they'll do with The Past winning.
It wasnt just past, future, present It was also a battle between the three music groups Maybe the splatoon 4 will do something with the fact that Cali and Mari won
Yeah, I went Team Past purely for the music group tied in with the choice. Otherwise I would've picked Present or Future, as I do find those more important than the Past.
I’ve been a competitive player since Splatoon 2, and the culture of the game really is so impactful on the community that has spawned from it. Such an art first Nintendo game, it’s brought me so much joy in lans, collaborative projects, and just shared time. A series worthy of every celebration.
So as a team Past member, it 100% was NOT about living in the past, I strongly agree with you that you have to live in the present. However, it is the past that defines us, and it is by understanding and embracing the past that you can live the best in the present and create the future that you want. The past is the greatest teacher we have, and both the successes and failures are what we should be studying and understanding. In that sense, the past is the most important as our foundation, and ignoring it is honestly just as bad as living in it, because you are equally stuck, unable to move on not because you are unwilling to, but because you lack the tools to.
The new Tri colour stage for the Grand Festival was really great too. The adrenaline and chaos was through the roof. Crowd cheering and all that. The song they used starts as a mashup of all the 3 idol group's most iconic songs, and it'd change back and forth to just 1 idol group's song if their team was winning. It was incredible. I'll have to disagree with "Being stuck in the past". I chose team past for a reason other than supporting the Squid Sisters. All your experiences in the past shape you into what you are today, and will continue doing so in the future. Learning from the past ensures a good future.
I feel like theres so much potential with splatoon on this channel. Topics like splatoon island and the in universe twitter drama and the entirety of "big betrayal". The iceburg is miles deep.
I feel exactly the same way with Splatoon. Everyone is SO good and even when I was at my best I still had to kind of cheese my way through online turf wars. I didn’t even know they had a “final splatfest”. It feels like this game just came out.
Splatoon 1 came out when I was recovering from a back surgery. I was house bound for 3-6 months and not able to do, like, ANYTHING. And I couldn’t have many friends over. But I had my Wii U, and the first game I ever got to play online, with the first friends I ever got to play online with. Even the motion controls gave me a motive for practicing sitting up straight.
It was really sad to see the Splatfest end... then on the next morning they announced you could revisit it whenever you wanted with any of the idol amiibos, so now I'm putting the concert on a fixed camera and leaving the Switch aside like a music player while I'm writing this
The grandfest was so fun. Im glad they went all out. I kind of like that they give you a couple of years to miss the series between entries, so each new entry excites the fanbase and feels like a new jumping on point for newcomers
I’ve been with Splatoon since its inception back on the Wii U. I joined just as the Idol Wars were raging, & man, I’ve never looked back! This series means so much more to me than I can put to words, and it feels weird, but it’s that exact reason I went with Team Present. Splatoon is always moving, always growing with me, always changing, always having something new to say or do. It would’ve felt wrong if I made like the villains of this series & fought for the past to become today. No shade to team Past at all tho, I look forward to what I believe might be a game featuring THE Great Turf War!
the grand festival was so brilliant, I've been playing the splatoon games since the first one and it was such an amazing send-off for the trilogy. kinda sad that team future didnt get any category points but i know we fought hard and i definitely had a lot of fun regardless 🦑🐙💙🧡
I see these tropes of choosing past present or future a lot in stories and in those the hero almost never chose the past, (they usually live in the now). Personally I find it refreshing that past won and we may see that option shown in a positive light for the next game.
i was very tired this entire weekend, but im very glad i mustered the energy to play this on sunday. no game makes an event feel so tangible and exciting like splatoon. the concert atmosphere was so electric and they really captured the scale perfectly, even with limited hardware. i wasn’t into splat 3 like its predecessor, but i’ll always appreciate it for being one of the few games that would consistently get my friends together. crushing splatfests together in our lil octo squad will always be memories i cherish ❤
Do all the Splatfest choices! Also please talk about how the Final Splatfest for each game influences the next one, and incorporate that into your choice
The past could be interesting if they make a Splatoon Origins thing that shows how inklings conquered the world post human era. That would be really interesting. In terms of the game, I agree they kept the content consistently flowing which is impressive, however, as someone who also didn't have time to play it I barely got to use or notice the new content. Maybe I'm in the minority target demographic but I feel like if you're going to have the devs work so hard to give the game new content then maybe they should use their resources to make new gameplay modes and such instead of new guns and maps that I don't notice idk just a thought. I would really like to see some difference with the new Splatoon to keep things fresh. But yeah, it is incredible to see a modern Nintendo IP become a successful long-term series. It is such a difficult thing to accomplish when the gaming market is flooded nowadays!
Splatoon 3 is not over, I understand what you mean and you are correct in a sense. The end of content updates only means that the game is now mature and full of features, far from being over!
Oh please please PLEASE Arlo, I'd LOVE to hear the tea you have about all the splatfest teams and what you'd pick spanning across all the games! I love to hear people's choices and their reasoning!
Wow. I got Splatoon 3 at launch excited to finally be able to play the Splatfests I couldn't as a kid because I didn't have 1 and 2. I started university at roughly the same time as the game came out and that's taken up so much of my life that I completely forgot about Splatoon. I only ever played 4 or 5 fests and I think I lost them all. Insane and kind of sad to see the final fest now in my feed and realized I missed out again :( Splatoon 4 maybe will be my game.
0:40 as an S+ Ranker with 1500 hours (Which is still pretty low tier at this point) I want to officially apologize to all the casuals just trying to have fun. Though, in our defense: it's not our fault that Splatoon 3 matchmaking prioritizes speed over matching skill levels.
no need to apologize, Callie and Marie needed to be at the top ;p 🦑🐙 that said, matchmaking did seem to improve or become more fine tuned with splat3, but there's still a huge gap in levels in that s+ rank is then s+1-50 or whatever. So matchmaking could still use more refining
I could complain for hours and hours about the prevalence of live service games and all the exploitative business practices they enable and all the problems with games preservation and on and on and on... ...But man, the ability for games to have true EVENTS, big giant shared experiences that entire fandoms can feel like a part of, things that people will remember for years afterward... I won't call it a fair trade for all those problems but it is one heck of an upside.
The next game will just have a "Modern City with a lot of Old Historical Buildings" like Kyoto. (Nintendo's Headquarters btw). We'll have "Shrine Maiden" themed Idols. Campaign will have multiple perspectives. A Young Cuttlefish (Past), and Modern Agent 3 (Present) and a future child of ...I dunno, Pearl and Marina (Future). All three will be trying to solve the same ancient mystery, and the player pieces together clues left by each.
Keeping it short. Player since the first game on the WiiU here. These concert splatfests were always so cool, felt like real events to attend, to be at. The final splatfests always made it feel like a melancholy sendoff that was a celebration of the game, it me so happy I was there for it. Tears shed, memories shared. Glad was had with this series 🥹 I love it all so, so, so much 🥹
you look at splatoon and you just have to believe that the people making it really truly love it. i really think thats the only way something like this can exist, it is a labor of love
No Splatoon ending will top the Inkling Open Tournament from the first game that gave us the joy of seeing a Wii U game featured in a Nintendo Switch direct
Really enjoyed the start of 3, also played the DLC, though I sadly wasn’t aware of the festival this weekend. Haven’t played in a while but enjoyed the time I spent in 3.
The great thing about Splatoon, and more specifically its main mode, Turf War, is that even if you are not great at online shooters, like me, you can still help your team by shooting the ground. As long as you're covering the ground in ink, you're contributing to the team

It's not our fault Pikmin is the greatest RTS franchise Nintendo abandoned.

The Grand Festival was a beautiful send-off to the near first decade of Splatoon. The final concert with all of the idols was mesmerizing.
It was definitely great, wish i was able to get the extra poses from higher ruler ranks
Agreed, this Splatfest brought a wave of emotions and nostalgia to me that I did not expect, especially that new song Three Wishes.
I will never get over how the unique Tri-color stage tied to this event combined with its unique music felt like fighting a final boss but just in a multiplayer setting. There was even dynamic music that cheered you on if you were doing great for your team!
Hypest splatoon thing ive played since alterna final boss(side order was really close tho)

Team Past was ravenous! Proud of my fellow Team Present members for the valiant effort.
Seeing Off the Hook perform nearly made me cry.
I also almost cried!! ❤❤ We fought hard fellow Present teammate
@@lorettabes4553To live in the past is stagnation. To live in the future is a delusion. We write our fates here and now, in the present.😎
I played so many games against team present being the one defending in tricolor, it really felt like a tight fight!
Fr fr! 😭🙏
The game being full price still definitely would help.
One of the amiibo sets lets you remember the concert night
A full price game with big DLC not to mention merch is a cash cow. Free to play has to work hard or depend on whales to get $60+ per person.
i spent sooooooo many hours in this hub just looking at everything. it was amazing
The idea of Splatoon 4 being a prequel excites me to no end
Even if it's not a prequel, I would love to see a game set in Calamari County
I'm just waiting to see the next lore drop, i can't imagine what we will get after the 'return of the mammalians'
I'm looking forward to that!
ooo, that would fit the theme well
Yeah I was thinking either prequel which idk if they'd do but the concept would be awesome or just a single player mode closer to Splatoon 1s and a super super heavy focus on Callie and Marie in said story mode.
Sounds like it was really cool, though!
the grand fest hub with all the performances is avaliable by using any of the idol amiibos
They're also doing repeats of special Splatfests (Summer Nights, Splatoween, Frostyfest, Springfest) and Big Runs for the foreseeable future!
It's worth 60$ get a better job
If you get any amiibo of an idol, you can view the concert at any time of your choice.
Mods would like to introduce themselves
Results aside, I really enjoyed Grandfest. Having Tricolor available from the start and with every stage allowed me to play the ones from the fests I had missed (I pretty much only played Tricolor the whole event). The final one was also nice, with the fizzbangs and the music changing depending on who got the 2nd signal. The Three Wishes performance also made me emotional, which I rarely get at videogames.
I also missed some past tricolor stages so was happy i could play on them!
I bought Splatoon 3 July of last year, and it quickly became one of my favorite and most-played games ever. Now I'm really looking forward to Splatoon 4, and also wondering how Past winning is going to affect it.
same! on my switch, i did not expect it to overthrow games like BOTW but its since taken over by a landslide 🖤
Splatoon was always a game i wish I could play in earnest, but 2 and 3 came out in a time where i just didn't have internet good enough to play online. I envy all the folks who were able to stick through to the end of the game's lifespan and be a part of these events and experiences.
Same as me but I’m just gonna start grinding from this point forward even without super regular events or new content
I feel you about losing, Arlo. I was losing a lot in recent Splatfests, but I was so happy to clutch it out in most games in this last one.
A Splatfest Opinion Retrospective Thingy would be such a cool video!! Really looking forward to that 👀✨
It's sort of funny that past won considering one of the overarching themes of Splatoon is that the world should keep moving forward rather than being stuck in the past.
OMG EXACTLY LMAO
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who realized that
I think there’s a clear difference with Callie and Marie celebrating their past together and the very clear messaging that the planet should keep moving forward, as we see with the antagonists of octo expansion and splat 3 all being stuck in the past.
I cant believe i missed this. I took a break from the game and came back and saw it was all over 💔
If you have an amiibo of any of the idols from any of the games, you can still access the Grand Festival area from the amiibo box in the city.
Whenever I start losing Turf wars I just switch to salmon run
Random opinion I had on the deserted island Splatfest choices in particular (I've never played Splatoon, I just remember when this particular Splatfest was being talked about for whatever reason):
I like to think of the question being about which you'd want to have *more* of, more help with, rather than "you can only pick one of these things".
Honestly that Splatfest was just poorly worded by NoA, it was more meant to be what are you bringing to the deserted island party type scenario.
We eventually got an order themed dlc, so they probably have plans for all three and the winner will just be in the base game.
huh...it's even called Side Order. I think you're onto something there
I do think it's fun that they allow splatfest victories to shape the next game
and now that you mention it, Marie won over Callie in Splat1, and Marie ended up playing a larger role in splat2's story
I thought Marie's quips were better suited in general as a navigational guide/partner character, but in light of the splatfest results, that likely sealed her role in that
I’m not a competitive person either but I love Splatoon because it’s a bonding point for me and my siblings.
Launch title
well, Splatoon 2 actually got a super mario themed splatfest 1,5 years after the final one, so it's a great probability
I’m so upset I missed the last fest. I don’t know this was the end. I was hungover all weekend and even got into the concert but I never actually joined a team. FML. Hopefully Splatoon 4 will be better.
seasonal splatfests are still going to be active, repeated themes sure but it's still going at least, so expect one in halloween (fall/autumn), christmas (winter), spring and summer, and big runs will continue for now
10:12 I couldn’t have said it better myself! I feel like we probably hold a lot of the same splatfest opinions 😅
11:18 medieval splatoon was the first thing that came to my mind, but then you said that thing about splatoon lore in the past and wowwwwww that's a good idea. It's so exciting, and past winning imo is the best in this aspect, as it's already pretty ~future vibes~
Hell Yeah, Medieval Splatoon would be sick! I want some Dungeon Synth and Symphonic Metal in the game. Also give me badass armour and weapons.
I wanna see Evil Demon Pearl in the Medieval Setting
See you all in squidward’s paintball 4
The future must be built on the foundation of the past.
Otherwise you will be doomed to repeat history.
Side Order was already making me think of this as my favorite Nintendo game, but this really solidified it for me.
Grand Festival was heavily enjoyable with the live performance. I am heavily excited that Team Past and The Squid Sisters Won the whole Event. Classic can never be replaced :D
after the splatfest was over the next unit of time there was all of the end songs for the campains in the splafest plaza but it was a morning vertion rather than it all just going back to normal imidiatly. i cried. who would think to put in the efort to have a whole set of 3 new songs just for the poeple who came to wait in the plaza for the splatfest results.
i would watch a very long video of you elaborating on your splatfest choices
OOO i’d love to see that splatfest video!!!
So fetch!
Everyone else: games dead now
Me: finally game is complete now I can play
I joined halfway through, I totally get it. Certain things are much more polished now. Especially the maps.
Though I still miss Splatoon 2 map design when I see them( I was very young when I played the first game and never played the second game so it's more like jealousy), Splatoon 3 has improved alot with maps, because they went back about 75% through the update lifespan to tweak every single map.
Some maps get minor tweaks, while other maps got a complete overhaul. One map was so bad at launch it had two overhauls lmao
@@imx_via which map was the latter LOL
Honestly a video about Splatfest choices sounds like a really good idea!
Splatfest team overview sounds like a very fun video idea.
I love Splatoon and I can't think of a person I want to hear more talk about the game more than he already does lol
I promise I'll share that vid w friends!
I played most of friday and sunday. It was such an amazing expierence as a part of the Dutch Splatoon Community.
It was amazing, my heart is full, the results are here and I'm fine with it. I was team present. The music made me want to cry.
I love hearing your opinions on the teams. That should be a main channel video!
6:55 Whoops! Hit Big Man with the Drone!
It's just so amazing how far Splatoon has come. From a brand new IP that people were uncertain of to becoming one of the best new IPs from Nintendo.
Yes please more Splatoon content Arlo, this video was surprising but I loved every bit of what you had to say!
Switch U Splatoon has such a great opportunity to become a big E-Sports.
I'd definitely watch the Team Choices video. Also, the final splatfest has always effected the next game, so it's exciting to see what they'll do with The Past winning.
It wasnt just past, future, present
It was also a battle between the three music groups
Maybe the splatoon 4 will do something with the fact that Cali and Mari won
Yeah, I went Team Past purely for the music group tied in with the choice.
Otherwise I would've picked Present or Future, as I do find those more important than the Past.
I didn't know there was a final Splatfest. Makes me wish I returned to Splatoon sooner :(
Yeah, the Grand Festival results is a bit of a bummer but at least it's better then the results for "best day of the weekend" and Springfest.
I second the idea of a video where you rank and discuss each splat fest choice. ❤🎉
The splatfest talk would be a cool video I’d say. I’m always like to hear different reasonings for why different folks pick different teams.
No shade to team Past at all tho, I look forward to what I believe might be a game featuring THE Great Turf War!
the grand festival was so brilliant, I've been playing the splatoon games since the first one and it was such an amazing send-off for the trilogy. kinda sad that team future didnt get any category points but i know we fought hard and i definitely had a lot of fun regardless 🦑🐙💙🧡
grand festival made me so emotional. what a perfect sendoff for this game.
I think 4 is gonna be jumping into the Edo-Style elements of the Splatoon style which I would be SO hyped for
I'd love a video on splatfest theme debate. Go for it!
I see these tropes of choosing past present or future a lot in stories and in those the hero almost never chose the past, (they usually live in the now).
Personally I find it refreshing that past won and we may see that option shown in a positive light for the next game.
Yes PLEASE make a video about all the Splatfests!!!
i was very tired this entire weekend, but im very glad i mustered the energy to play this on sunday. no game makes an event feel so tangible and exciting like splatoon. the concert atmosphere was so electric and they really captured the scale perfectly, even with limited hardware. i wasn’t into splat 3 like its predecessor, but i’ll always appreciate it for being one of the few games that would consistently get my friends together. crushing splatfests together in our lil octo squad will always be memories i cherish ❤
Do all the Splatfest choices! Also please talk about how the Final Splatfest for each game influences the next one, and incorporate that into your choice
I’d be down for an every Splatfest video, I want to know Arlo’s opinions on Autobots vs Decepticons and SpongeBob vs Patrick
I thought it would happen this weekend, so I was really down, when I realized it was already over :(
Looked really great
The past could be interesting if they make a Splatoon Origins thing that shows how inklings conquered the world post human era.
It is such a difficult thing to accomplish when the gaming market is flooded nowadays!
arlo please make that video it would make me so happy!! splatoon and your videos are two of my favorite things, it would bring me so much euphoria ❤️
I can't believe I forgot to tune in for the final splatfest and I still couldn't get my motorcycle running.
Splatoon 3 is not over, I understand what you mean and you are correct in a sense.
The end of content updates only means that the game is now mature and full of features, far from being over!
Thx for that clarification! I thought they were about to close their servers for 4 or something xD
Looking at the release cycle for the splatoon games, I wouldn’t be surprised if another splatoon game comes out within about a year
Bro went back to back on vids
Its people like you that keep Arlo and casuals away!
Jkjk, I never show mercy in Overwatch or 2K either 😈
no need to apologize, Callie and Marie needed to be at the top ;p 🦑🐙
that said, matchmaking did seem to improve or become more fine tuned with splat3, but there's still a huge gap in levels in that s+ rank is then s+1-50 or whatever. So matchmaking could still use more refining
Please make that celebratory Splatoon video
I'm glad my fellows on Team Past were able to clutch the win, but more important than winning, I'm just glad I got to play and have fun with everyone.
More arlo Splatoon content yesssssssssss i eagerly await for the day where arlo goes in depth into their splatfest teams
PEARLINA CHILD RAAAGGGHHH
Keeping it short.
Player since the first game on the WiiU here. These concert splatfests were always so cool, felt like real events to attend, to be at.
The final splatfests always made it feel like a melancholy sendoff that was a celebration of the game, it me so happy I was there for it. Tears shed, memories shared. Glad was had with this series 🥹
I love it all so, so, so much 🥹
you look at splatoon and you just have to believe that the people making it really truly love it. i really think thats the only way something like this can exist, it is a labor of love
It was unbelievable! I’m so glad I played it this past weekend!! It makes me sad it’s over 😢
We returning to splatoon 2 with this one
