That is some addition to the shop, your taking the metal sheets to the wall and then adding the slash cuttings and making it into log uprights. I like what you've done. John
I worry about those heavy bar clamps just hanging there. Might want to use a bungee or something similar across them to secure them from falling. Shop is coming along!
Yes, when one pipe clamp falls on your head, you will notice it. At this cool shop I worked at, we cut slots in a chunk of 3/4” Baltic birch ply for this reason. Fastened to the top of the existing ledger it will provide peace of mind. Failing that, snug the sliding portion to the ledger, but sometimes that can be a pain. Unsolicited advice from Sunny Manitoba.
I actually tried a bungee and found it caused clamps to fall when trying to remove it. With them hanging flat against the wall, they don’t seem to want to move. I’ll have to address it if it becomes a problem.
Worktop area is coming along really well Jason ….all the trim’s you are fitting are giving it a nice homely feel!…..I’ve been thinking of replacing my old fluorescent light’s in my workshop …I’ve got to do it now I’ve seen you fit your LED lights!….great job 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
That work shop is looking just beautiful! How I wish now, that I had insulated and covered the walls in my shop back then, when electricity and heating oil were at a reasonable cost. Talk about "those were the days!"
I felt your pain (even though it was phycological, it was real) when that drill slipped. I haven't been to the emergency room for one yet, but I do wear the scars! I hope for your sake that it was not as bad as it looked. Thanks for embracing the suck and continuing on with the mission! Great video.
@@NorthwestSawyer I've already enjoyed producing my own firewood off the property. But using and producing my own lumber onsite will be that much more special! In the UA-cam world we are probably considered neighbors, I'm just up the hill from you towards the Mountain. Small world.....
@@NorthwestSawyer sweet have a great time I'm a little familiar with the erea,my daughter's grandma lived in the Yucca Valley and her mom and I lived in Capistrano Beach just south of San Juan Capistrano
Looks good. Did you back bevel or rabbet the strips you hang the clamps on? (Had a nasty experience when I pulled a clamp off a similar, flat hanging arrangement. Got more than I asked for. Friction failed me.)
Dude! Wall looks great! I would consider adding some more reinforcement for your bar clamp shelf, those are long screws but only two might start to bend after a while or worse, fail when you or your kids are around it. Just a thought
Thank you! Those boards are 13” wide. I cut one angle at 30 degrees on the top and the bottom has two 30 degree cuts that come to a point in the center which overlaps half of the bevel on the board below it.
It’s looking great Jason. Just think how enjoyable it will to be out there working on a nasty cold day with that stove going. It will be well worth all the sore fingers. LOL. Stay well.
I noticed that you didn’t seam to like the cord running across your bench. I mounted a 4’ power strip along the face of my bench to eliminate that problem.
It's all looking great, Jason. Just as you were starting the sheet metal, I was thinking that no sawyers were hurt (by falling boards) and then ....... Bill
Might have to take out a few staples and re-route your wire to pick up a few more inches if that plug needs to be used often. Likely should have used a romex connector at the back of the fixture as well to keep the wire from getting pulled. By code it should be clamped there and the connector protects against rubbing cuts by the sharp edges on the fixture. Just a thought.
Really looks nice Jason! Be careful when pulling those pipe clamps off the rack as they tend to drag "a friend" with them, which makes for some exciting times......as me how I know. Also, the Xtool arrives Monday and both the wife and I are excited to use it.
Awesome! You’re really going to enjoy it. My email is in the “about” tab on my home page. Send me some pictures of what you create. I’ll put them in a video!😉

You seem to have a thing for not being aware of that which is about to fall on your noggin. 😀 How will you seal the metal at floor to prevent mice from getting into the insulation to build warm toasty homes to raise their young'uns in? BTW: your shop is so dang cool. Who wouldn't love spending time in it.The LED above your bench is a keeper. Bet you end up lowering it. ha
Thank you! I’ve always hung my clamps like this. They never move. Everyone commenting is wrong!😂😂 if a mouse could fit under that metal, he’s earned a warm spot 🤓
I would of suggested some plastic on the walls before you did this. House Wrap would work too. You WILL get drafts in the current configuration, which maybe doesn't matter to you. Also receptical insulation behind the plates.
I think once the room is walled in, my wood stove should be able to keep up. It doesn’t usually get really cold here and if it does, usually not for an extended period of time. I really need to finish my second floor and interior walls.
Caution: Mice will crawl under that metal wainscoting. Doesn't look like they would fit but they will. See if there's a trim you can put on the bottom.

Thank you! I’d been thinking about this for a while now and really like how it’s come out so far. It’s just a little different.
Great look, board paneling and metal wainscoting. Great way to use up materials.

Jason your workshop is finished off better than our house is! Great video thumbs up.
That’s what my wife said😂
Always fun cutting in those outlet boxes. I have to buy the jumbo receptacle covers. And I like the jig you used to hold the board up 👍🏻
Thank you! I was prying the board up over the outlet box so I could say I cut it out right the first try. 😂
That looks excellent, any improvement to the work area is a good thing and you have achieved it, well done and enjoy.

nice work , just wondering about the distance between the stove and the wall , maybe you should have used concrete board
There’s concrete board behind the metal. It runs from floor to ceiling. I thought you could see it in the video but maybe I over edited😂
