- Lighty - The kicker never moved until the last second. That runner ran probably over 150 Yards at that point, the last 80 was all out sprinting. Nobody can sprint full speed after that. If you think you would have had the speed by that point to outrun that freakishly fast kicker you're dead wrong.
Lacie Blaze the runner wasn't running almost at all til the end lol where did you get 150 yards from?! He knew he was going to get caught so he started stumbling, it's the oldest trick on the field. Cornerbacks do it all the time after they get burned by a receiver.

- Lighty - just where he caught the ball from the time he was tackled was about 120 yards. 150 yards was an underestimate he ran about 160 yards that play at least. You run out of juice after all that running. That kicker had speed too.

And this is why the pursuit drill in practice is so important. He adjusted himself to be able to catch him and make that tackle..The dude was already running full speed so that kicker had to make a hell of an angle to catch him..
Yup that pursuit drill was a b!tch but it definitely got your mind right for them game changing scenarios.

Gives up on the play, sprints to celebrate, flexes like the Incredible Hulk.
He actually slowed down to let him pass. No reach, no dive, no effort to tackle at all.
He knew the kicker could get him, so didn't want to waste his energy. On the other hand, the runner could have done a spin move (or a stop and shift to the right) to elude the kicker and score. Of course, you can't expect someone to make those kind of split second decisions like us armchair quarterbacks :)
The first guy to hug the kicker after the tackle just trotted next to the returner for a solid three seconds, and just gave up
To give the guy the slightest bit of credit, he's probably played the full game on the line and just ran up and down the field, whereas the kicker has fresh legs and didn't move much after the kick.

In highschool the kicker can be anyone. I often see running backs or quarterbacks kicking. Alot of college athletes probably were their highschool teams kicker, especially if from smaller schools. Over half the highschools in the nation just won't have pure kickers. So I wouldn't be surprised if that kicker was the starting middle linebacker or Something.
Imagine in the moment thinking “I’m smashing tonight” only to have a kicker from the opposing team thinking “I’m about to steal this man’s crush”

After 4, 5 laterals i dont the return man was a starter. He looked like he was a headhunter on the edge of the return squad.

My brother in law was a kicker in high school and he still tells the story of how he kicked the game winning field goal in the high school championship game. They lifted him up and carried him off the field and he made headlines in the local newspaper. What a great story

Nice return with lots of good team play(blocking, laterals and great avoidance) but the kicker was so clever in cutting off the sideline and forcing the runner across the field before his mammoth chase down and superb effective tackle. A win I'm sure he'll never forget. I hope he got the game ball.

The most impressive features of this last play of the game, were the 5 lateral passes, and the fast break and turns of the running back that carried the ball down the field.
The kicker was already in the path of the running back, and had a good chance to make his attempt for the tackle.
Anyway, it was a good last second tackle by the kicker.
Whoever wrote the description missed a huge opportunity by not saying he pulled off a "Mericle" tackle

Six years later, I hope the return man was able to move on and make a great life for himself, and that the kicker was also able to make a great life for himself. It'd be very sad if the returner is still haunted by this moment, and if this was the peak of the kicker's life.

Believe me it does Im 74 and had the best game of my life in a "play- off" game 2 fumble recoveries 1 blocked kick in endzone lost 14-13 and our team was heavy underdogs up to 35 pts by most scribes... our team was inside the 5 yd line at least 4 or 5 times in the 2nd half and couldn't punch it in! and it still bugs me! ... a win and were in the semi's!!! Also we never kicked extra points we always ran them in for some unknown reason the coach decides to kick extra points the week of the game to this day never quite understood why?Just shows how immature I am. LOL!

You need to watch more highschool. Jason white was the kicker for his highschool and he was a hiesman winning quarterback at Oklahoma. We played many teams whose starting tailback/linebacker was the kicker. One teams kicker destroyed us as a running back (that guy is actually in the nfl now). I kicked the ball one game in highschool (kicker was down) and I was the teams second leading tackler and the starting running back. Highschools don't always have legit kickers. Usually it's just a back with a strong leg. It's not the same as college where the kicker is a kicker and sucks at football. You'd be surprised how many nfl players kicked in highschool. Not always the case but you never know in highschool. My senior year we had an actual sole kicker but usually that was rare unless it's 6a.

There was actually a penalty on this play and it took another solid couple minutes before game over was declared. Held all of us in suspense who were there.

It actually would make sense to be chased down by a kicker, they're usually soccer players that are in better shape than most or all of them actually are, plus he hasn't been running around for all of four quarters.
High school kickers normally aren’t soccer players thought unless they do summer club soccer because the soccer and football season would overlap

He felt ridiculous in that uniform and was thinking about how much he'd really rather be home practicing his accordion and fantasizing about being in the audience at a Polkaholics concert and suddenly being asked to come on stage and play, fulfilling a lifelong fantasy of having his name in lights on the big polka stage and having his name mentioned along with other polka greats like Eddie Korosa, Walter Ostanek and Jimmy Sturr. Oh yeah, Brittany would definitely notice him then! She'd realize she made a mistake by ignoring him and dating Trent, that dumb trombone player. He isn't even first chair! And the way he botched the first movement of Mahler's "Symphony No. 3" in the spring concert should have opened her eyes to his mediocrity and inability to handle pressure! She'd have to see what she was missing as throngs of sexagenarians threw their compression stockings on the stage at him as he totally crushed Happy Hoo-La-Gun, making them rush the stage on their Rascal Scooters.

My son did this several times. He was an excellent Futbol (soccer) player and the team needed a kicker so he joined the team. Once a game he made a TD saving tackle. It was fun to see the other team razzing the returner for being tackled by the kicker. Nice tackle by the way.

Everyone like, he got tackled, well considering the kicker sat back while he was getting gassed setting up the play, it's logical. This isn't the same as when Deion showboated and got tackled at the one, dude was actually playing through that long ass play.
