@1:06 that's noble. Hopefully, he had enough presence-of-mind to hug the young actress too; the one that played you, Roxanne Shante`. She's the one that he *actually* manhandled on the set.
just-a-thought.
Nia Long played the hell outta her roll as Shante's mother..
Shawty Lo i agree
She did!!
Shawty Lo right, she made me think she's really was stupid and bitter😂 stupid for having that much faith in that man with the money. And mad bitter towards man's because she don't pick them right but going make it like they all ain't shit. Anywho Nia did that.
Yes she did !!
Yes, she did.
*No words can explain how good Nia Long played her role*
Fax
Yes
Well shes an actress
💯
Straight facts she did that shit to a 10
Nia Long played the hell out that part.
Yes!!! She did
No ‼️
Yess she did
LadyLioness yes she did an amazing job
THE HELL !!! she killed that.
Ms. Long was INCREDIBLE! Mr. Ali was GREAT! How do I know? Because I hated them -- HATED them both -- in this film. That's how well they played those roles. I don't know why some people complained that the film didn't have enough music ... it was a wonderful merger of her music and her personal story. Great job.
Yeah. I hated Ali in this film. I didn't hate Nia but only because I didn't view her as mean or anything like that. I can see why she would be seen that way, but I saw how deep her pain ran. She was extremely hurt and depressed it seemed and it came out bitter. It was hard for me to hate her mom for that. I hated Cross' nasty ass..
Her mom wanted the best for her daughters tough love was seen a lot
I really liked the movie but felt it ended way too abruptly. I was like "wait...that's it?"
Hollis2Hollywood exactly i wanted more
Agreed
@@VictoriaLove yes
I Feel The Same way! #FACTS💯
Hollis2Hollywood I just watched it and I know I’m late but I agree with you on that
I saw the movie, it was really good, and great acting.
nia long did her thing !!
Nicole Yancy i loved it
"He's deceased"
"..oh..I'm sorry to hear that"
What I expected her to say: "I'm not"
I did too 😂😂😂
Me as well.
She's too classy for all that
That is what I anticipated for her to say also.
@@kimj.6985 Exactly.
I'm really glad to see she's able to smell the flowers while she's still here👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Shout out to people who don't hide behind a bunch of fake stuff goodness it feels good to look at a natural woman somebody who was just regular talk and not fronting not talkin about Prada not talking about money talkin about real life stuff God bless you Roxanne

And Chante was PERECT for the role! Love Mahershala!
This is a beautiful sista and I definitely grew up to the music of Roxanne. She is definitely a pioneer in rap and hip hop.
She is so likeable.
YES SHE IS VERY COOL IN PERSON.
KalElKryptonsFinest thats the ROXI SHANTI
I didn’t see it was that deep of a portrayal of him! It was more what her mother endured! That’s what held me.
Bless you sweetheart and what a powerful movie it is.
Loved you back in the 80s and love you still.
A fantastic lady with a great gift for rapping and rhythm , as a kid I was certainly into rap music it’s such an art and something that takes a lot of work and dedication.
Take care Roxanne my kindness regards to you paul x
This film had me in tears.
Nia did her thing. This was her best role by far.
1:20- 1:50 She was named Shante & Born to play Shante. Fate, destiny & Sweet Irony. Kind of like the young brother Denzel Whitaker, Who later starred in movies WITH Denzel Washington & Forest Whitaker (Training Day, The Great Debaters, Black Panther) I
Wow that's amazing like that model Chanel Iman who became a runway supermodel sometimes a name can carry weight.
Roxanne Shante and MC Lyte are my top two Female Rappers of all time!
Yessssssss
Her smile. ❤️ Such talent.
Well it's on Netflix. Go watch it
Her voice is eerily the same after all these years. Even the way it cracks
I watched it twice such a great film
Ph.40 Lowks I watched it twice that day!
Me too.
Great interview. Love you Shante
Shante is a beautiful strong queen no doubt
She has a beautiful spirit 🦋
DJ Vlad: “ I’m looking at the cast and it’s no joke. You have Mahersala Ali in it after winning an Oscar for Moonlight in it...who are the other people in it?” 😂😂😂😂
I just watched this! I loved it! I thought I knew this story, but boy was I wrong! And the actress' name is Shante" and she looks like you, how awesome is that!
I grew up listening to Roxanne Shaunte. Nia Long played that part to the fullest. That restaurant scene was…..whew!
Shante talking about the perfection of the moment for her viewing and the hope/expectation that it will touch someone to say enough it's the perfect time for me to get out. I believe it. God wastes nothing. God's love is made perfect in our weakness...Shantel gettin' her due & helping others too! Perfection.
Id fix that title. "My Son's Abusive Father is No Longer Alive". That shit you wrote is right it just sounds wrong when you say it.
Aaron Gibbs Right
Facts I had to read that shit like 3 times nicca what???
*my son's abusive father. Or my abusive baby daddy would be better
I agree lol . He made it seem like she got the nigga wacked lol
Aaron Gibbs It was the first thing that caught my eye
Thats one tough woman 💪
I want to know who was the Brooklyn gangster who was her sons father...I'm googling the hell out this story n finding nothing.

modified the title based on people's comments
Great movie I just watched it on Netflix the actors are great especially Nia Long
I really wish they put the whole KRS ONE drama in the movie, I was waiting for it.
FolkLaurr that’s what i mean i feel like they didn’t really touch on anything specific like she was hot in the movie for like 10 mins. Maybe it needed to be multiple episodes
I always been told. Don't never say anything neg about a person who's not here to defend them selfs
They should’ve added bdp vs juice crew in the movie
Leebo Cappo I thought that too but then I was like fuck KRS-One he protected that sexual predator Bambataa 🤬
RBGUERILLA well only because he created hip hop
RBGUERILLA Haven’t seen KRS around for a while, wonder if that’s why
RBGUERILLA Krs1 been full of shit for a long time it took him to speak on Bam for ppl to realize
I agree...her movie could have easily been 3 parts like New Edition's Biopic
"With a name sounding like whack radio station" one of the BEST lines😂. The movie was FISH GREASE..🔥🔥🔥
I want to know, how old was he and she when they got together? In the movie she looked like she was about 16, and he in his 20's-30's?
Cashmere Clown she was 16 he was 36
@@caramel_luv88 ugh of course 🤢 Im mad i was right
@@caramel_luv88 he was robbing the craddle
Man that documentary was good
I don't remember any Krs One song in the "Roxanne, Roxanne" movie. Please anybody refresh my memory.
Seen the movie! Loved it!
Met her in Memphis. The bomb. 😍😍😍😍
Vlad, this was bad timing dropping this interview. You shouldve dropped this at least a few days before it aired on netflix. Still good interview.
How do you know that the timing of his interview isn't based on factors beyond his control? Also, his interview(s) of Shante are promoting the movie. It's not like the movie is leaving Netflix.
Powerule i get it but to hear this after seeing the movie seems out of place.
we had this interview 9 months before the movie dropped. if we had dropped it before the movie came out nobody would have known her story. this interview fills in the blanks
djvlad kool. U stingy Vlad😂😂😂😂😂
Vlad, you have great interviews. thank you... one thing though, your channel isn't user friendly. It's hard to find the videos to watch them in sequence. I can't even find the full interview. I also try the search feature and scrolling through the Up Next column. Maybe it's me but it only happens when I visit your channel. Kinda cluttery but love love love the interviews.
thanks for the feedback. not every interview has a full interview
The movie felt so short, but it was really good!
those glasses tho 👀👌
Respect to Vlad for respecting and representing da OGs 💯 Salute
She is awesome I love her❤
Her face at 2:33 looks a little happy and relieved
Best Black women rapper in history 💖
Correction...the GOAT...
Vlad is the Chief of reopening OLD WOUNDS!
And OH yea!... Where the hell is KRS ONE in the movie? Should've showed that instead of that NAS part...
Love her....this was dope
I wanted more from that movie .. bdp beef .. Shante 1992's album ... Life after
Me too Jay Zeal! They should have made it longer. So much more to depict! The BDP beef was everything.
I see that have changed the title of this segment. Good response, Vlad.
LOVE YOU SHANTE!
Dam her hair style is stuck in the 80's but she's still the Queen of Queens fuck what you herd. Real talk💯💯
female still wear that now
Lyndon Simmons where they do that at. I haven't seen any mushroom hairstyles in a minute
So we gone act like she ain't get in NAS ass in this movie..🤣
lelareed824 wym by that ?
Yall talking about Nia Long as if we do not already know she is a great actress but the young lady, Chante that played the hell out of Roxanne Shante.
If you look all the way down in her Instagram pictures, there is a picture of Kareem and his father and their Instagram names
She talked a little about her son's father in the book Vibe Hip Hop Divas.
Exactly what Shante says at the end
I was wondering what happened to that dude... I wish the update was in the movie... Still it was a very good movie tho
Will you release the whole thing vlad...
in a few days
Movie was pretty meh. Feel like it’s missing a lot of story
Aaron Art yup
Aaron Art I said the SAME THING
Agreed. I liked the movie but it felt like there was supposed to be more.
Too short for my liking
c byrne i said the same thing at first then i looked at the run time it was almost 2 hours
This was a great movie , hip hop history
she looks like that cool auntie in your family that everybody loves!!!!!
Hip Hop legend for all you youngsters. Before Latifah,my Chi-Town homie Brat Aand even MC Lyte!
How did her baby father passed away ?
Watching now
I wanna know how old was he at that time they met.
JuttJutt16 he was 36 she was 16 and had her son @17
He basically took advantage of her because she was young and wanted to control her. It was God that gave her the strength to leave
YoYo Tahlia Baht Israel he was old enough to be her father smh
I just watched her movie again for like the 3rd time lol
I lover her glasses 😂
