The silver wings, silver star and wreath, represent the recon company's military freefall expertise; the three golden stars should represent combat jumps into combat zones; the lightening bolt comes from the 75th Ranger Regiment's unit insignia as strike capabilities; the trident is the recon company's waterborne capabilities; the black dagger is the historical dagger of special operation forces. It is the badge for the men in special operations who you may consider to be the elite of the elite. One of our sons died as an Army Ranger. Two are retired from the Army. We are proud parents of our Army sons. The above explanation was given to me by Vu Minh Le, an Army Ranger that was a friend of our son that passed.

@@oldhat2u wow a lot of detail on that symbol. I appreciate their service. Sad for your pain of losing a child. Sadly I know that pain.
My husband was in 101st airborne. Vietnam. His mom kept every letter he wrote her. I can’t imagine the fear of a parent of a young soldier at war. Thanks for sharing that info with us.
