- Thursday 3rd October 1991 brought a complete new look to the show - out went miming and Radio 1 DJ's, and in came live singing and another new logo! A new theme tune also debuted here - "Get Out Of That" by Tony Gibber
So much energy in this one, its the 90s!!!
There was just something magical about the 90s.
Being of a younger generation, I remember thinking the 2003 version was the original haha. I love this theme.
I like this theme. Upward movement in the chords, sense of uplift.

Best TOTP theme. I remember this as a kid & it's what I always remember.
Best theme for me! You can tell this was inspired by rave culture. Late 80s synths and 90s electronic percussion. Anyone know if there's a full version online?
I used to have both a pretty full version of this and the 2003 version, but I've mislaid the original and only have the 2003 one still.

Yeah, i think it's my favourite one too, for pretty much the same reason. I liked Hardcastle's theme, but this just has that edge that reflected the types of music i was starting to listen to.

I find it unusual knowing that this theme music was on "TOTP: Big Hits 1996!" because by then, the theme music was already different by February 1995.
I quite like those opening titles and graphics, because of people dancing.
This actually kicked off my weekend - I so miss the 90s and Top Of The Pops!!!!!

I remember this theme tune which was part of the new TOTP revamp back in the autumn of 1991. Everything about it screamed "Move over 1980s, this is the 1990s". A remixed version of this theme appeared in 2003 and lasted till either 2006 or 2008.
I actually think it's a fairly solid visual aesthetic, all pipes and steam and spinning metal, sort of faintly steampunk and faintly Cesar Baldaccini. The way the top 10 was presented was genuinely impressive. Admittedly the logo needs tidying up, they went too far into illegibility. If that was all they'd changed, it might have lasted.
Hip and kewl 90s are screaming from, this intro.
When TOTP’s decline started. Nothing against the Year Zero era (1991-94) but the ratings began to fall.
Then Ric Blaxill came, he brought the Radio 1 DJs back, but also hired a lot of guest presenters, several of which were not very good.

This was better but didn't like it was in the 00s one.
A milestone in music. Pops has basically followed a downward trend ever since.

Almost. 2003 version feels longer for some reason.
Never liked these titles or themes. Yellow pearl and the so-called "flying telly" all the way. However I still argue it ain't a fuckin' flyin' telly. I have yet to hear it officially from anyone who made it but as a kid I thought it was a flying cushion. :)
Intro was great but shame about the set design on the programme. Really let's it down.
Loved the theme, but always wondered about this theme. Never seemed to work for a pop music show. After they got rid of the main stage from the 80's, the set was utterly appalling.

Just finished watching this on bbc4 and OMG it's so embarrassing to watch because of the hosts. And the new lay out ruined a perfect music show no wonder its fate was sealed to be cancelled a few years later.
