KTM 790 890 ADV Scotts Steering Stabilizer Install | Back in the Garage

- In this episode of Back in the Garage, I remove the stock steering stabilizer from my 2021 KTM 890 ADV R and install a Scotts Steering Stabilizer. As I mentioned in the video, I already had a stabilizer and the aftermarket bar risers were already on my bike leaving me with just the tower pin and +8mm arm to buy. I've linked the parts I used below as well as the entire kits.

Small world. I also just bought a used 890 ADV-R. Mine also came with a Vanasche riser kit. And my previous owner ALSO declined to include the damper in the sale. I too happened to have a damper laying around! Fortunately my guy left the pin in place. Although I also had to get a stepped, +8mm arm. I also turned to BRP for the arm.
One thing you may want to touch on is the difference between a "road" and an "off-road" damper. The road damper damps both deflection and return steering where the off-road only damps deflection. Or so they say. I have a "road" damper from my road-racing days. I mounted it on the 890 as I have it and figure it is at least as useful as the stock damper (which also damps return steering) and adds adjustability
Which one? Scotts ir gpr?
Scotts are the best. That’s what I prefer for all my bikes, on and off-road.

Hey man excellent video, thank you for this. Very informative. I do have a question: what if my bike does not have bar risers? Can I still install this damper?
You’re going to need a mount
So I’m used to normal DIRT BIKE that I can pick up and throw on a stand to work on them. I’m looking at purchasing an 890 R. Obviously much heavier not something you’re gonna be able to pick up I wouldn’t think without breaking your back. I don’t have room for a hydraulic lift stand so what kind of song would you recommend?
I have swingarm spools and a rear wheel stand. I have a lift as well.

Did you look at other Stabilizers or since both ktm & and rottweilerperformance pushes scotts that's the one to get?
No and no. Like I said in the video I had a Scotts laying around. Never considered KTM pushing Scotts since they make their own (WP) and carry GPR in their PP catalog as well.
@2 Wheeled Rider fair, I've met people where "already have" doesn't mean it's going on. There are people who look for best in slot [bis] over what's financial responsible. I didn't see the gpr in the 890 adv or adv r list. Just Scotts.

Are you asking about an 890 Duke R? You couldn’t possibly be asking about an 890 ADV R since I not only cover the pricing in the video but also link every part needed in the description.
