Yeah once my chinchilla somehow got into my houses ventalation shaft/ Air conditioning tubes. She ended up falling out of the ceiling into a trash bin where she then found her dust bath and took a dust bath
My chinchilla, echo, loves to be held. Whenever I walk into the room she goes to the front of the cage. She is so social. She makes friends with all humans pretty much, and even my cat (don’t worry, I don’t let them out around the cat, but echo goes to the front of the cage and sniffs her all the time.)I didn’t really have to go through any trouble to get her and whisper bonded because she is that social. What I do is I usually open the door and put my hands in front of her. If she wants to be held, she’ll walk onto my hands. If she doesn’t, then she just kind of sniffs the, or walks away. But sh loves me and really everybody we got her from a pet store where they let u hold the animals, so I guess she’s used to it. I will sometimes let people I know who are responsible pet her and sometimes hold her, but only when she feels up to it. My other chinchilla, whisper, hates being held and pet. She has only ever let me pet her once, and hold her once. The place we got her from was really shady. There was plastic everywhere and she had no toys. And instead of a water bottle, they just had bowls. She was cramped in a really small cage with 3 other chinchillas. She was the smallest of all of them. There were no toys and one hideout. Her whiskers were bent and she is really timid. At night she will sometimes bark. Every time I enter the room, she gets scared and runs behind her hideout. By the way, neither of my chinchillas use there hideout or hammock. There hammock is made of a uncomfortable material though, so maybe that’s it. But they never use their hideout. Echo used to, but now she doesn’t. Whisper just hides behind them. Is there something I’m missing or is it just that they just don’t like to go in there hideout. Also, I rarely ever see whisper sleep, so I’m wondering if I should see someone about that. Whisper is starting to warm up to me though. She will come to the front of the cage when I come in, but when I get close to the cage, she goes back and hide. I almost never hold her unless I’m letting her out for playtime. Also, she only hides when it’s playtime, so should I just keep her in the cage?
ThatOneKawaiiPotato :3 Well, I'd say that you just need to give her time to adjust and settle in. Sounds like she was pretty mistreated and I'm glad you got her and now giving her a good home. You can keep letting her out for playtime. It'll take time for her to warm up to you because she must be very warm if people because of her previous living situation. Just have patience with her😊💕
The Chinchilla Notebook thanks for the advice! Your videos are really helpful and give great advice that helps me build a stronger relationship with my chinchillas
Maybe try turning the hut around to where the hole faces the back of the cage. Mine is light enough so he moves it himself and he like to have the hole facing the back of the cage for extra privacy. That may help with the hide if they can’t move it themselves or they may just not like it. Or maybe put a a small treat in it. Whisper may be claustrophobic idk if chinchillas can be but being in a small cage with 2 other chinchillas without nourishment must have made her nervous to go in. Or maybe the chinchillas in her past were territorial and were aggressive if she tried to go into the hut which she may be scared echo will be like that if she tries to go in. I suggest trying an extra cardboard box hut if you have a box make sure they don’t chew and test if one goes in if one does then it may be the fact there’s only one hut if you have only one. Your girls sound so precious and I hope whisper gets more comfortable ❤️
I got super lucky when I got my chinchilla from PetSmart (obviously don't expect this guys, please do your own research) - the girl who helped me owned a chinchilla herself, a 17-year old one at that! She was so excited to help me, pointed me immediately to the Oxbow products and told me "DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE TREATS HERE". She was a livesaver.
I love that your open about mistakes you've made, like your clearly talking from experience and care not just judgement or wanting to throw shade. Thank you for this channel. Keep up the good work xx
I just wanted to say thank you for this wholesome, awesome channel. This channel has really helped me over the years of taking care of my chinchilla!! I hope you have a good life and your chinchilla stays healthy and happy for the rest of his years! God bless you! ❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼
Really appreciate your channel. My wife and i are planning on getting a couple chinchillas after we move. Weve been watching all your videos, as well as perusing the comment section, and taking notes of the "dos" and "donts". I hope when all is said and done, we will have two new happy fluffy members of our family.
I am a pre-teen with a chinchilla, he only loves to be held by me because I am very gentle. I can never leave my chinchilla alone with anyone because he gets scared. Whenever my family tries to hold him he gets very scared and wiggly. My chinchilla doesn’t like to be held long either, he took a nap on me once and it was so cute! :) 💕
Merlin is super adorable in this video :). I especially love to see him standing at the edge of his cage, looking down, almost like he is in deep thoughts.
I am saving up for a Chin atm, and the thing wich makes me really happy is that my petstore (Called Kölle Zoo and my local one is in Weiterstadt) actually gives good advice about All their animals! They tell you about the pros and cons about owning an chinchilla, they show you the right food, sand/dust, all their cage accessories are made out of wood, as we once asked why they responded that plastic is very very bad for animals because they could possibly chew on it and even die. They have an own private Vet, Pet care taking lessons for Children, A grooming salon and way more! Sometimes, they even give you a quiz to test if you are really ready for that specific animal and if you have done proper research :D I only did that with my hamsters I bought there, so I found your video really good and helpful, and I love your channel! 💕 Another question of mine: Sadly my mom doesn’t let me get two chinnies :( Would it work out if I’d spend around a couple of hours with my chinchilla ( in case he’d or she’d want to XD) I would really like to get a second one, but my parents just won’t let me sadly.
When I was 14 I got my 1st chinchilla. I had him for a couple years but I could tell he was lonely. I had him in my room in a large cage. I Lived with my grandparents & my grandma told everyone who lived at the house afrer that under no certain terms No more pets For the house. I bought my second one at age 16 & snuck him in the house as well as the cage through my window. By age 17 I had a total of 9 chinchillas & one wall was totally covered in cages. She walked in my room for something one day & I was like uh-oh She told me she knew I had more than one but what could she do once I had brought them through the door. She wasn't about to have me send them back to wherever. So I kept them but she says, absolutely BO MORE or she would give my room to the chins & kick me out. LMAO I'm 44 now & I still remember the look on her face seeing all the cages. She knew I had more than one just not 9! Lol
Hey! Did you get another chinnie? I got mine a friend 5 years ago ... pet store told me it was boy... 2 months later I had baby chinnies in my cage 😭😭😭
It was a huge surprise and changed all the dynamics of the chinnies' The Male ended up super aggressive. then we had him castrated (exotic pets orders) and he was even worse. He then couldn't be around the grown children and the mum. It was just so sad. They ended up all being split and sold off in the end but the mum stayed with the daughter. One day I'll do it AGAIN... but right.
Doesn't surprise me they didn't know it's gender. They have very similar looking parts and most pet store assume male because they look a bit like ding dongs.
Had the same thing happen with my 2nd one. He was supposed to be a TOV female for my Black Velvet Male Kyle. I named her Vanilla. A year & a half later she was officially named MR. Nilla 🙄That was my very last store/mall bought chin.
Hi, I just wanted to say this, because the video I was watching didn’t have a comment section. DONT GET A CHINCHILLA IN A WHIM. It took me about a month of research (a lot from you, thank you!) after that one month I got Mochi about a month ago. And the week before I got him I ordered a feisty ferret cage ( a knockoff of Critternation ), Mazuri Food, a chin sprint, some goji berries, and made some homemade treats out of oats and rose hips. It is alone, but, Mochi lived with a buddy, but it died, and they tried to bond two of them, but they began fighting, even after a week. Mochi was the victim, and now he’s VERY nervous around other chinchillas. But I give him 10 hours of attention (including playtime). He is SUPER smart since I trained him. But thank you for your this video, it helped me make sure everything I was doing was safe!
Stephanie Guy I got my hamster when I was like 8 and I put her in a ball. She went missing. Later, my dad found her in her ball in the trash. Apparently my 4 year old brother threw her in the trash thinking she was a volleyball. Now, years and years later, I have my chinchilla and I would never put her in a ball. It’s so mean and I wouldn’t want another trash incident. So ya, totally agree with you and her!
Milo likes to cuddle. It’s kind of interesting. During the day when he’s sleeping he likes to sleep around you and lay around right between your legs. I make sure to stay in cold rooms and if his ears get slightly pink i’ll put him back with the other two. He lived alone for five years so I think he really became attached to us.
I've had several chinchillas. I use to house them while the animal shelter got someone to adopt them. There was this one little girl and boy she basically demanded to be held. She was unique and a sweet heart. Extremely social as well. Got to the point anything I did, she was on my shoulder. I kept her and loved her dearly. Miss her
Actually a chinchilla was my first small pet. I wouldn’t suggest it, but I did a TON of research to prepare. I made sure to know what foods, bedding, hay, and other items were safe and not safe for them. The only thing I wish I knew was to not buy from pet stores. I ended up getting 2 very old chinchillas and one sadly passed after the first week. (By the way I was around 9-10 when I got the chinchilla so I didn’t buy it myself)
Thank you!!! I have been wanting a chinchilla for the past week and honestly, after I’ve watched your videos... I feel like a chinchilla expert. Keep up the good work!!
We had 2 chinchillas that became 3 and I’m getting the baby when it’s old enough and I’m 12 years old so I’m pritty nervous but my big sis has 2 and I’m learning from her how to take care of chinchillas 🥰❤️ and I will take care of him supper well and use your tips ❤️
When my family had a few rabbits we HAD to trim their nails, but it’s mostly about their living environment and day to day activities. Mine was pretty relaxed and because of that he never ran around a lot to trim his nails himself.
Hi don’t know if you already know this and have done it but you need more in the cage to break falls. They shouldn’t be able to fall more than 18 inches. The can be at risk of serious injuries. If they fall from height and I notice your cage doesn’t have much to break any nasty falls. Also some more chew toys for enrichment may be apretiate by him. Also their wheel shouldn’t be enclosed like merlins as that’s a risk for over heating
Im going to college in around 5 years so my dreams of getting a chinchilla for now is being put off, I find this super helpful. Merlin is also very cute.
I got a chin last month, and I've been bringing all of you videos! So helpful! Thanks for sharing all of your tips and experience. Additionally, my chin's cage is decent sized with ramps, shelves, and ledges, but I so badly want to get him a setup like what you have for Merlin!
My name is jasmine and I had two rats. You are right they love to be pet but I’m getting a chinchilla because my rats passed. Thank you for helping me before I get mine.
You have been such a help to me ,I have 2 Stormi he's 2 and a half years old, rescued. Reign 18 months January 13th rescued. Thank you for all your info,I'm a new mommy to these babies
I only got one chinchilla cause the staff there said they don't need to be in pairs.I feel really bad for leaving the other chinchilla there ( I might get that one since my chinchilla is already bonded with her/him or a breeder )
Kim Namjoon I think that don’t listen to the pet store of it that’s a really bad choice I’m not even allowed to get a chinchilla cause my mom said no but I know a lot about you and she loves I’ve done my research for years like about five years now still not allowed to get one but I know more than most people who have them and it’s kind of sad because I just trust the pet store workers to tell them right stuff but they don’t really know anything about them
EXACTLY, chinchillas are sociable in the wild, but for some reason, in cages they should NOT be on pairs. They will fight. In this aspect, they are oposite to guinea pigs, which they need to be in company, always. Guinea pigs need company, chinchillas don’t.
i will never buy again in a petstore. for your next time is a breeder better where you can get advice see the conditions, cages and how the other chinchillas look. maybe the breeder would also help you with the socialization. General (if possible) chinchillas are with 2 or more chinchillas. With the right gender combinations, most chinchillas can be sociized with the right technique. otherwise you can look for help. every chinchilla needs at least an area of 1m x 1m x 1m. my chinchillas definitely did not get along at first and now they cuddle and are the best friends. i have four of chinchillas in a large cage. they are group animals. a human can not replace a chinchilla. if it does not work nobody should give up for years. they should just try again after a break and look for a good chinchilla breeder who is familiar with socialization. for me there is nothing better then see happy animals playing with each other.
My chinchillas are called Ben and Jerry they are best friends but are very different Ben is very active and not shy at all while Jerry is very shy and timid probably because they have had 2 previous homes where the owners gave them up and didn't want to put in the work. the point about pet stores is so true the employees will always promote their own products and make out they are much better and cheaper while i do believe they care for the animals they seem to put their business first and they treat and make out all chinchillas are the same and every care method will work however each chinchilla is different and need different types of care and attention. I also think that chinchillas need an open space with not much furniture like the room in the video as Jerry will tend to hide and Ben sometimes does this as well if they have an open space they will get more exercise and have more fun. Thanks for the informative video!
I'm doing my reaserch for when I get a chinchilla since my sister is getting me one. I'm doing my research but the only thing I'm worried about is my chinchilla getting depressed when it's alone. I'm able to spend more than half my day with my chinchilla but I'm still worried about it getting depressed. D:
My chin, Totoro gets anxious during thunderstorms if he’s out for playtime. There was a rare occasion where he let me hold him and he wanted to /be/ held during the storm. Once I saw little bits of red sprouting from his ears’ base I put him away. He had a long playtime that night as well as the cuddling session. I have a lone chin and also plan on getting him a friend. He had a health issue when we first got him (I think a ziptie at the pet store got his toe) and we wanna be sure he’s healed 100% and is stress free before getting his new friend!
I feel so bad for my white chinchilla muffin, the petstore was explaining how good the exercise balls were for her and how much she loved them, and me being the 11 year old girl i am decided to get her one and over time i noticed weird things she would do like claw or try to scrape her way out of the ball. They also mentioned how good her cage one and kept on saying how great the $200 1 story cage was, a few weeks passed and she started becoming really eager to get out of her cage so i spent all the money in my account to buy her a new one :)
@@kelly-peachesmiscoski2042 get the chinchilla if you want a pet for a LONG TIME..if you get a hamster they die in 2 yrs..Im getting a chinchilla now after loosing 2 hamsters..im sick of burying hamsters & chinchillas live 10-15 yrs or more
Hey LOVE your videos! Quick note, I noticed Merlin is itching and scratching a lot. We have 4 chins, and only one of ours, Leroy Jenkins does this. My wife and I cut his dust baths down to twice a week and this has helped immensely! Everyone else still gets them every other day and are fine, but for whatever reason they seem to dry out his skin and make him itch excessively if done as recommended. Also thanks for your videos, they absolutely rock! 🤘😎
My chinchilla Leonardo de chin chi is crazy when it comes to desk baths I have him a regular dust baths and when I take the bath out he jumps to the front of the cage
This might seem like a dumb question but can chinchillas hang out outside their cage? For example: around my room or around the house under my supervision?
So you say that chins overheat pretty easily, why do you use fleece? Not knocking it just trying to find the best thing for my buddy to use. Would you be able to put metal underneath and use a really thin piece of fleece? Or could you just throw the fleece and use the metal? Just wondering. Just bought a new cage so not sure what to do....
Dylan Dathe Fleece doesn’t warm they up and it won’t matter if the room is cool enough. You definitely can’t just have metal, you need some type of bedding for them, whether it’s fleece or traditional loose bedding. 😌
It was a very informative video and no, I don't think that it was too long. Not many people pay attention to what their vets say and assume that they think they know everything. Those are the pet owners who actually should NOT be owning pets, especially exotics. You did good.
i'm a new chin owner i got mines yesterday named it enchilada and i'm not sure what he likes and it keeps barking i did some research and that means he's stressed or frightened and i don't know how to bond with him without touching him, i want to bond with him so he feels safe but i don't want to scare him i just turned 12 and got him for my birthday how do i take care of him without it getting stressed?
ACtually, we recently adopted 3 chinchillas. And 1 of them is extremly cuddly. Is that a bad thing? Like he naturally jumps up to me and run around on me. Obviously not for long but he does it every time I approach him.
So I got gifted a male chinchilla and was told he had only been by himself because he didn't get along with his sister. Now I'm wondering if maybe he wanted a brother how do I test this with out putting a chinchilla in harm? Cuz if it's like my hamsters from when I was a kid it could turn bloody..
A little more info on the wheel and buying them from pet stores is that you SHOULD NEVER buy ANYTHING plastic or some types of woods and treated woods. It can cause serious health problems (if you are interested a chinchilla wheel should be around 15-16 inches in diameter because if you get one smaller it can strain their spine and back)
I am a kid, almost a teen in a few years. And I’m going to be getting a chinchilla in a few months, I have done my research and all that other stuff. I have it all written down in my notes as well. If you’d like to give my any advice, I’d appreciate it.
Thank you for the video I agree with everything! I just adopted a family of Chin's (Momma, Daddy and Baby) They are amazing they literally know when I come home from work and come to the cage for treats that they get. They are so sweet
I noticed that you have tile on the bottom of your cage, are you able to have the top and bottom level with tile instead of a fleece liner over then pan ??
I just got my chinchilla yesterday and it wont eat or drink and its shaking we bought it and the pet store said there friendly but he is so scared of me and everyone else and it preety much looks like hes have a seizure and we already went to the vet and theres nothing wrong so do you by chance know whats happening?
i’m getting a chinchilla from an awesome breeder!! They offer pellets, dust, and hay cubes for $1 per pound. And their chins don’t get more pricey than $170! standard grey is $150 and other colors are a bit more expensive. I’m so excited.
around a year ago our guinea pig got babies, sadly she didnt take one of the 3 and we had to find something for the little baby. we put him in the chinchilla cage, actually just for the night but when we wanted to get him out the next day he was in one of the little houses from my chinchillas with them in it. we fed him and put him back in and watched over it a little. the chins (both male) were grooming him and just acted like he was a little, weird looking, chinchilla as well and now ever since that guinea pig lives with them in the same cage. (we take him out daily tho so he can get his fruits and all) our vet sais it's weird but it should be fine.
i’m a new chinchilla owner and this video really helped me with my two chinchillas, some friends say i hold one of my chinchillas Minx, to much but Minx actually really likes being held, she comes up to the chinchilla door and waits for me to show her my hand or leg to jump on and if she wants to be held she will jump onto me and if she does not she just doesn’t, she just leaves
Ace Mcgase No, they still need the companionship of another chinnie. Merlin lives alone for certain reasons. I have a video called Can Chinchillas Live Alone explaining the details and answering the question 💕
Rabbit generally don't like to be held. You can sit and pet them. Guinea pigs, depends on the piggy; some piggies love cuddles, some are super skiddish. And yes, rats are super friendly!
How often do you have to take them to the vet I alr have a bearded dragon😭 that is super expensive his cage is extremely clean what would cause him to be unhealthy??
Breaded dragons should go at least once a year for a wellness check it should increase to twice a year after they’re over the age of 5. Same thing goes for chinchillas and all exotics really. You will need to find a exotic vet, and you want to find one that specializes in your pet. For example I have a rabbit and a chinchilla so my rabbit sees a doctor that’s savvy with lagamorphs my chinchilla sees a doctor that’s savvy with rodents. Also the cage being clean is great but there’s more that goes into their health. For example diet heat, with breaded dragons having a hide in the shade as well as in the heat, chinchillas can go into stasis very easily so it’s better to have a vet that knows your animal in case of a emergency, also to check their teeth. There’s a lot that goes into exotic pets and they’re very high maintenance and very expensive. For me check ups are about $130, when I got my chinchilla she had a parasite so the test and antibiotics plus the check up was almost $300. With my rabbit he went into a really bad stasis and that was $2,000 for the overnight and treatments he needed. So between food and everything else they are definitely the most expensive pets you can get and it’s really easy to mess up with them and end up needing to go to the vet which is a big reason why going to the vet regularly is important and to have a working relationship with your vet so if you have questions you can email them or call and they can give you better answers since they know your animal. Also sorry for the long reply I’m just trying to make sure I explain everything pretty well.
Used to be twice a year or if you were experienced more like 1x per year or whenever there was a health issue that arose that needed attending to. When chins are in their later years is when you might possibly run into issues. This was 20 years ago Im unsure what the suggestion is now, might be more as there weren't many vets back then that knew diddly squat about chinchilla care etc.
I know the wheel isn't quite big enough but I don't know what to do also how do you make more productive levels for exercise and how does your chin not chew on the bars did you train him to stop if so how
I have a chinchilla, and didn't realize he might need another one. But the only thing is my parents won't get me another one which is a bit concerning. But thank you so much the video was very helpful, and Merlin is so adorable.
@@lilymixer300 that's not always the case I have met a trouble chin or two over my lifetime that couldn't have a cage mate or like even near others like in the same room even or hear them barking from another room but those chinchillas were very few and far between and were usually from a neglective background you can keep a singular chinchilla and they will be content 4 time being as long as you devote lots of time to them they have to have play time outside of their cage you have to keep them intrigued and engaged in activities sooner or later though it is best for the majority of the chinchilla population to have a buddy or mate of some kind. They don't even have to be in the same cage they can be next to each other or even within the same room so they can vocally communicate.
My cousin's teenage daughter has wanted a chinchilla for months and has prepared for one. Little does she know my cousin has bought one from someone rehoming it and I'll be taking care of it til Christmas.
My chinchilla loves my dog. He actually barks at the dog when the dog ignores him. One day, I had him out behind a gated barrier, and the dog was on the other side. The chinchilla got whacked in the face a few times trying to play with the dog's wagging tail. I wouldn't say they're great friends (the dog is super clueless), but the chinchilla isn't stressed out by the dog at all. I think it's just important to know your pets and what their boundaries are.
My chinchilla lived with a male chinchilla but they didn’t like each other and rigth now my chinchilla is alone. Is it okay for him to live alone or should I get a second one?
I don't do anything that is on this list but i did have a exercise ball but i saw they didn't like it so i dont let them use it and my chinchillas also have the same exact cage as merlin
Lilly W I do one maybe on how I make them. I would rather have fleeceless ledges but I bought some pine wood that wasn’t kiln dried so it wasn’t safe. So I covered them with fleece covers and that’s basically it😊
iv'e had my chinchilla for a few weeks and I didn't know they shouldn't live alone. I got her from someone's daughter because she didn't want her anymore, and they had her for a year so I assumed everything they were doing was right, including having only one. My parents are already not thrilled about me owning a Chinchilla, so I doubt I'll be able to convince them to let me get another one and double all the supplies needed for one
I got my chinchilla from a friend who went to college and he is a grumpy boy like he's fearless I got very lucky he's curiouser and social but also doesn't care I have to pick him up and physically move him away from anything I don't want him to chew on he's even an a hole around strangers I love him
You have lots of great info! I work at a pet store actually and I’m looking at getting one of our chins. I’m 17 and I’m going to college in the fall (I’m commuting from my house) and I need an animal that would be okay during the day while I have class. I’ve been doing research for a month or so now and your videos have been a great help! I do have a question though. I have a large dog, do you think it would be a problem to get a chin if I kept it out of reach of my dog?
Kylie Tovine sorry this comment is so late, but I also have a large dog (Great Pyrenees mixed with a poodle) and she has no issue. Let your pupper sniff around the cage but make sure to monitor!
@@shay_box mine did. his dad was 110 and mom was 90, and he’s got all of his papers. He is also an English golden which tend to be bigger in size than standard goldens.
Late on the reply but I got my first chinchillas as rescues, they were terrified of me when I first got them but for the first couple weeks I tried hand feeding some pellets and putting my hand in the cage for a while till they started to investigate and felt more comfortable around me, try spending time with it talking from outside the cage and try hand feeding pellets for positive association
Tina Marlnee I’m glad to hear that! I wish I was as responsible with my first chinnie. I got him when I was 12 and I was far too immature to own one. But I’m so happy to hear that you are doing research💕
Can someone please help me? I am taking a really good care of my chinchila, but he just hates me always when I want to take him out of cage he starts barking and when he is out of cage he does not want to stay with me. I tried everything please help! (I have him a year and four months) PS sorry about my english
@Chris Martinez thanks, but I tried to leave the cage open and he sat there and didn't want to go out and every time I wanted to give him treat he started barking🙄(I have him from his 6 months and he is now 2)😐

mine chinchilla loves beeing hold too. Sometimes he fall asleep while i m holding and pet him
@@xvulpyxchinchilla5216 mine hates it. She does everything in her power to escape.
She was a livesaver.
bitte immer mindestens zwei chinchillas zusammen halten sie sind sehr soziale tiere
I love that your open about mistakes you've made, like your clearly talking from experience and care not just judgement or wanting to throw shade. Thank you for this channel. Keep up the good work xx
I just wanted to say
thank you for this wholesome, awesome channel. This channel has really helped me over the years of taking care of my chinchilla!! I hope you have a good life and your chinchilla stays healthy and happy for the rest of his years!
God bless you! ❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼
Alj the pie Thank you so much for the love and support. Obviously couldn’t do anything without people like you!
Really appreciate your channel. My wife and i are planning on getting a couple chinchillas after we move. Weve been watching all your videos, as well as perusing the comment section, and taking notes of the "dos" and "donts". I hope when all is said and done, we will have two new happy fluffy members of our family.
Also can you do another DIY chin toys? Sorry for asking so many questions. Just curious
SHUT UP AND WATCH THE VIDEO! 😩😩😩
Sorry I meant to say that to my friend
Courtney Small uhm I made that comment 2 years ago... u good?
I don’t think they are-
I am a pre-teen with a chinchilla, he only loves to be held by me because I am very gentle.
Ee Lai Kim Oh yes, deep thoughtful about jumping out of his cage!😆💕
They can’t live alone so that means double CUTENESS
I am saving up for a Chin atm, and the thing wich makes me really happy is that my petstore (Called Kölle Zoo and my local one is in Weiterstadt) actually gives good advice about All their animals!
They tell you about the pros and cons about owning an chinchilla, they show you the right food, sand/dust, all their cage accessories are made out of wood, as we once asked why they responded that plastic is very very bad for animals because they could possibly chew on it and even die.
They have an own private Vet, Pet care taking lessons for Children, A grooming salon and way more!
Sometimes, they even give you a quiz to test if you are really ready for that specific animal and if you have done proper research :D
I only did that with my hamsters I bought there, so I found your video really good and helpful, and I love your channel! 💕
Another question of mine: Sadly my mom doesn’t let me get two chinnies :( Would it work out if I’d spend around a couple of hours with my chinchilla ( in case he’d or she’d want to XD)
I would really like to get a second one, but my parents just won’t let me sadly.
Cardinal Inu ya same I feel like my parents won’t allow to buy 2 :(
When I was 14 I got my 1st chinchilla.
Rachael Marie Book Junkie No, I haven’t. But that must have been a huge surprise, lol!
I'm curious to know how you wrapped the ledges. Looks nice!
Loving these earlier posts because now I can watch them during school in the morning when I hate being there😁😁😁♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Hi, I just wanted to say this, because the video I was watching didn’t have a comment section.
I totally agree never stick any animal in a ball it’s so cruel
He lived alone for five years so I think he really became attached to us.
mines called Milo too😂
Merlin is soo cute. 😍
Where can I find a cage like that?
Darlene Anderson amazon
Darlene Anderson The exact cage is a critter nation 62 inch x
I wanna say thank you for everything I now have my very own chinchilla named Teddy
Miss her
Question for you...did the shelters at that time have a demand for the chins to be sterilized/fixed before they were adopted out to a new owner?
Actually a chinchilla was my first small pet. I wouldn’t suggest it, but I did a TON of research to prepare. I made sure to know what foods, bedding, hay, and other items were safe and not safe for them. The only thing I wish I knew was to not buy from pet stores. I ended up getting 2 very old chinchillas and one sadly passed after the first week.
(By the way I was around 9-10 when I got the chinchilla so I didn’t buy it myself)
I'm a new chin owner and I don't know if I can forgive myself for never thinking about one some time ago, chins are so cool and amazing!
Thank you!!! I have been wanting a chinchilla for the past week and honestly, after I’ve watched your videos... I feel like a chinchilla expert. Keep up the good work!!
My chinchilla doesn’t like cuddling like most, but she does like climbing into my hoodies when I wear them and she tries to climb in my hair
my chinchilla literally walks up to the edge of his cage to get to where my dog is whenever my dog is in the room lmao
I love your video! I will share it as so many people still need this information, especially in countries where chinchillas are not a common pet.
I got a chin last month, and I've been bringing all of you videos! So helpful! Thanks for sharing all of your tips and experience. Additionally, my chin's cage is decent sized with ramps, shelves, and ledges, but I so badly want to get him a setup like what you have for Merlin!
Thanks for the support!💕
My name is jasmine and I had two rats. You are right they love to be pet but I’m getting a chinchilla because my rats passed. Thank you for helping me before I get mine.
When you get a chinchilla do you not put them out for playtimefor the first little bit till they are used to you
You have been such a help to me ,I have 2 Stormi he's 2 and a half years old, rescued.
@@rockiniowa thats not true chinchillas cuddle in their cage. some ppls only spread fake informations
Alexandra That’s great!😊
Alexandra Omg my Chin is named Totoro too! Also I have two guinea pigs, Gigi ( Kiki’s delivery service ) and Porco ( from the movie Porco Rosso )
My cousin has 2 male chillins he uses bedding on the bottom of the cages which makes a mess of his floor. What do you use for cloth on the bottom?
I feel so bad for my white chinchilla muffin, the petstore was explaining how good the exercise balls were for her and how much she loved them, and me being the 11 year old girl i am decided to get her one and over time i noticed weird things she would do like claw or try to scrape her way out of the ball. They also mentioned how good her cage one and kept on saying how great the $200 1 story cage was, a few weeks passed and she started becoming really eager to get out of her cage so i spent all the money in my account to buy her a new one :)
Is it bad to get a chin at pet smart or no bc isn’t it good to save them from a small cage and give it better care than the pet store?
Love this and perfect for me because I’m getting a chinchilla really soon and want to know everything about them!
Lol I am deciding or a chinchilla or a newborn hamster
@@kelly-peachesmiscoski2042 get the chinchilla if you want a pet for a LONG TIME..if you get a hamster they die in 2 yrs..Im getting a chinchilla now after loosing 2 hamsters..im sick of burying hamsters & chinchillas live 10-15 yrs or more
I have one im the best
@Jean S you are wrong. If you actually were smart, you would kmow they DO NOT live that long. They only live up to 7-10 years. Im smarterthan you.
I use when I brush there hair (not that much though) I use a soft baby brush for them and it does not pull out there hair
I really wanted a chinchilla to cuddle but now I know they wouldn’t be right for me. Thanks for the tips!
Can you tell me where you purchased your cage and wheel for your chinchilla
The cage I want to get for my chinchilla is a 44" L x 20.5" W. Is that too small?
And the exercise ball does not help in the summer and there is no cold contact in case they overheat
I'm sure you have said this before but why do you have rocks in your setup? I cant seem to find a video that says
They can not get wet or they can get moldy i got my from critters
So what should I do if my chin is aggressive and does not get along with other chinchillas?
i’m getting a chinchilla from an awesome breeder!! They offer pellets, dust, and hay cubes for $1 per pound. And their chins don’t get more pricey than $170! standard grey is $150 and other colors are a bit more expensive. I’m so excited.
Katie McEnery that’s really cool! Colors are so expensive in the breeders near me😊
around a year ago our guinea pig got babies, sadly she didnt take one of the 3 and we had to find something for the little baby. we put him in the chinchilla cage, actually just for the night but when we wanted to get him out the next day he was in one of the little houses from my chinchillas with them in it. we fed him and put him back in and watched over it a little. the chins (both male) were grooming him and just acted like he was a little, weird looking, chinchilla as well and now ever since that guinea pig lives with them in the same cage.
So having one chinchilla isn’t ok? I’ve read that it’s fine as long as you spend time with them?
Ace Mcgase No, they still need the companionship of another chinnie. Merlin lives alone for certain reasons. I have a video called Can Chinchillas Live Alone explaining the details and answering the question 💕
Rabbit generally don't like to be held. You can sit and pet them. Guinea pigs, depends on the piggy; some piggies love cuddles, some are super skiddish. And yes, rats are super friendly!
How often do you have to take them to the vet I alr have a bearded dragon😭 that is super expensive his cage is extremely clean what would cause him to be unhealthy??
She sold them. Wasn't paying the bills.
I ended up getting a chinchilla not to long ago so seeing this is really helpful
How far does the bars need to be for Chinchillas
I have a question, How often do you suggest getting a health check for your chinchilla?
Used to be twice a year or if you were experienced more like 1x per year or whenever there was a health issue that arose that needed attending to. When chins are in their later years is when you might possibly run into issues. This was 20 years ago Im unsure what the suggestion is now, might be more as there weren't many vets back then that knew diddly squat about chinchilla care etc.
I am a kid but I NEVER and I mean NEVER will play with any pets rough 😭😭😭and honestly won't carry them a lot 😢
I have oxbow pellets for my chinchilla is that good for them?
I know the wheel isn't quite big enough but I don't know what to do also how do you make more productive levels for exercise and how does your chin not chew on the bars did you train him to stop if so how
And ANOTHER awesome video from you and Merlin💖 I'm getting my little chin on Wednesday and I'm going to name him Dusty
Malina Audrea Aww, cute cute! I know you’ll love taking care of him😊
Will it still be okay if I don't have other Chinchillas but instead have dogs outside of his cage?
I have a chinchilla, and didn't realize he might need another one. But the only thing is my parents won't get me another one which is a bit concerning. But thank you so much the video was very helpful, and Merlin is so adorable.
How is it concerning that your parents won't buy you something. My parents never bought me my pets or phones or cars
Spoiled much
Sorry? I did not mean to word it like that. I just did not know a chinchilla should have another one with it.
Yeah I'm going to look up everything about chinchillas
I would have two, but the person mine lived with before attacked her and she doesn't like other chins anymore.
My chinchilla does not want anything to do with me and he runs away from me and hides got any tips I need it 🥺😢
I don't do anything that is on this list but i did have a exercise ball but i saw they didn't like it so i dont let them use it and my chinchillas also have the same exact cage as merlin
Kyle Moonlight 😊💕
Can you do a video on how you put fleece on your ledges and why you do it
Lilly W I do one maybe on how I make them.
I got my chinchilla from a friend who went to college and he is a grumpy boy like he's fearless I got very lucky he's curiouser and social but also doesn't care I have to pick him up and physically move him away from anything I don't want him to chew on he's even an a hole around strangers I love him
How I do I know if my chin is overheating
where can i get a cage like yours i’m moving to a huge house and my chinchilla seems cramped in a small ‘'biggest’’ petco cage
DonRayPlayz Pate I got mine off amazon for a good price💕
You have lots of great info! I work at a pet store actually and I’m looking at getting one of our chins. I’m 17 and I’m going to college in the fall (I’m commuting from my house) and I need an animal that would be okay during the day while I have class. I’ve been doing research for a month or so now and your videos have been a great help! I do have a question though. I have a large dog, do you think it would be a problem to get a chin if I kept it out of reach of my dog?
Kylie Tovine sorry this comment is so late, but I also have a large dog (Great Pyrenees mixed with a poodle) and she has no issue. Let your pupper sniff around the cage but make sure to monitor!
ella pipes thanks for the advice! my golden retriever has good intentions but sometimes forgets that he’s 110lbs lol

But what if we travel what should we do
I got my chinchilla a few days ago, her name is Heidi and she is constantly running away from me what do I do? I want to bond with her.
Would a 31in×20.5in×40in be a good size or should I go bigger
Can i get the bedding ,hay and pallets in a store where they sell farm supplies
Rosalinda Robles Sure but it depends on the brand or what’s inside the ingredients 💕
ok so I wanted to say im11 and im doing research and getting tons of stuff for it and a 5 foot cage im going to do good
Tina Marlnee I’m glad to hear that!
@Chris Martinez thanks, but I tried to leave the cage open and he sat there and didn't want to go out and every time I wanted to give him treat he started barking🙄(I have him from his 6 months and he is now 2)😐
This applies for pretty much all pets especially small pets
