if you compare her body with the body of all those underweight russian one hit wonders today, no words! figure skating has really changed to the worse unfortunately!
I think Katarina won the SP in part because others made mistakes. Debi had an obvious error. Kira was lacklustre. I recall Trenary and Kadavy had weak double axels, Kondrashova fell. There are aspects to this programme I think are brilliant - the layback and arm movements, the serpentine step sequence and just the shear amount of complex footwork in between the elements. Her jump sit spin is weak. Her jump combination was fine but easy. I’ve seen this programme with a different camera angle and it looked like she almost over-rotated on the double axel, possibly why she had to disguise it with the hop immediately afterwards. Overall good but not great and considering she was 5th after compulsories she was very lucky to win this. Her long programme though - my favourite of all time!
So Thomas put a hand down on the 2A here and 2 footed her 3Lo on the FP, leister was heavy legged, didn’t have much height in her jumps, she wasn’t even in a sit position at the top of the jump sit spin and her speed across the ice and presentation was no where near, no connection with the audience. But this was no better?
This performance ranked first in the SP?? Wow. Poor height entering the jump sit spin, with hunched over back in the sitting position. Awful "layback" position. The absolute minimum in terms of positions in the combination spin, simply repeating camel and hunched over sitting positions on each foot. This had to be her worst SP in terms of choreography. The judges were clearly blinded by her pretty face and her enthusiasm "selling" this load of crap.
That's a very american point of you. In Europe we did not like the artistic impression of Debi Thomas and when Katarina slates without major mistakes the ranking was clear because of the second mark.
The difference between katarina and others is that hers transitions were impercetible; the other only made a collection of postures; thats what dance and 2nd mark is about. Anyone can make a couple of positions; only dancers can connect them seamessly; any kid leran to do jump in first year; but to have skating abilities, it take years. If you think her dance footwork is easy, is because you never put a skates on. I have kids doing waltz, toeloop jump and they cant do a proper 3turn... Jumps are much easier than footwork
Kindly point out where I was comparing it with today's technical difficulty. You made up that statement out of thin air, because I did not make any such comparison. Try again, and this time address my actual comments?
Katarina..won the Short Program with the EASIEST TRIPLE JUMP COMBINATION of ALL the Competitors.
NOT true. Elizabeth Manley and Kira Ivanova had the same combo!
YES she was OVER marked!
Durch Eleganz und mit Kunst verbunden, was sie in dieser Sportart zu Recht erfüllt hatte.
Danke an ihre Trainerin und an sie.

Was meinen Sie damit???
Какая заводная, как мячик, на скорости. Моя любимая фигуристка была. Сейчас ей уже 57 лет.
Beautiful she is amazing one of the best skaters ever❤️💕⛸⛸⛸⛸.............kim🇬🇧
💋
Die Beste, das haben die Preisrichter richtig erkannt, ausser der USA, Großbritannien und Russland.

long-legged beauty
skaters' skirts in those days used to be very short so legs naturally looked long. though it is undeniable that Katarina has beautiful long legs
Great high on her jumps!
Ist ein sehr eigenartiger Kommentar von Ihnen.😢
Absolut
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The best ✨
No! 🙈
Katarina WON the Short Program with the EASIEST TRIPLE JUMP COMBINATION of All the Female competitors. The Judges were corrupt.

Katrina Witt had uncanny ability to win...she needs to be studied
Very athletic fast skater

Es hat ausgereicht um das Kurzprogramm zu gewinnen.
Daran hätten sich die anderen Läuferinnen in Eleganz eine Scheibe abschneiden können.
❤❤🔥🔥⛸️⛸️😍😍😘😘
She was not a great jumper or a perfect technician, but she definitely knew how to skate.
Seems easy. For her, I mean.
Y
She won the short at this event on name along. This isnt even any better than Claudia Leistner who was 8th in the short.
Definitely better than Thomas both in short and long programs

She did not place 1st after everyone had skated. I was there-I still have the Protocol sheet.
it was almost 40 years ago, don't compare with today's technical difficulty!
