@@willnot3297 I mean these people didn’t do anything wrong. They just remained calm and the bears knew they weren’t a threat. I couldn’t tell but it looks like at 0:50 or so it started smacking its jaw, which is a sign of agitation. I don’t think these people know how lucky they were. I am assuming the sheer number of people is what prevented an attack, and no one moved suddenly but even still lucky.

"Bears in that area know humans are not a threat." Wow, how do you know, do you send bears in the area a shot survey every month or something? This is just stupid, these are wild animals, they don't "know", they use their instinct and react to the environment. What if one of the humans can not keep their cool and starts running, or one of the bear cubs runs towards the humans? You have a powerful and not fully predictable wild animal, that can kill all of these idiots in seconds, especially with the bears cubs around as well.
If you ever do visit Alaska, don't be like these people. Bears are much faster than they look, and if they do decide to go after you it's not going to be pretty.
Humans are not as slow as you think. Humans evolved to be endurance hunters and successful ones at that. Marathons where people, even those who are considered geriatric, run twenty miles or more by training to do so. Basically practice. No other animal is capable or physiologically built to do this. Almost any human can take advantage of this evolutionary adaptation if they choose to.
Yeah a human could have a good shot in a marathon against a bear. But if you're on a beach next to a mother and her cubs, you're going to lose if she charges, regardless of your amazing endurance.
Bears usually avoid large groups of people, but it seems that mother bear had no natural fear for humans. Otherwise it wouldn't have gotten so close with her cubs. Dangerous situation nevertheless.
Normally people don’t get that close to grizzly bears would u say all those people have no natural sense of fear of the bear. They just knew not to fuck with her, Maybe the bear was intelligent to know not to fuck with them
One swipe would have taken out the mom leaving two more swipes for the other two. Then the state would come in and shoot the sow and we would have cute videos on how the cubs are being hand fed. Reminds me of when the kayakers get right on top of the whales all the time. Aren't there Federal laws to maintain a certain distance? How clueless was the women looking into the camera. That's not Winnie the phooh.
No you are not the only one who noticed it, it bothered me slightly. However, it seemed to me to be a normal emotional reaction to what was essentially a deadly encounter for many people. They were too uninformed to realize the danger they were in until it passed. That is how I view it.
Almost as annoying as some moron(@Juan Z) making it a race thing. Bet you have a shit ton of other brilliant comments out there in the ether. Dirty Sanchez nailed it.
Not a bear-human relations expert, but I think the key distinctions between this very close encounter with a mother bear and her cubs and more eventful instances (besides what some others have commented about this particular National Park, Katmai, hosting bears that are used to human presence, which I have no comment on) are that here: (1) it would seem the mother bear was continuously very aware of the humans presence from a long distance/time leading up to this, due to clear line-of-sight environment (2) the mother freely, pretty calmly (some chewing motions but no grunts) walked in the direction of the humans, of all possible directions she could choose to walk in, _with her cubs_ mind you. (3) the humans were relatively numerous and more densely packed into a group (less worth the bears energy and perceived safety to antagonize preemptively), and (4) the humans safely stayed put as and after the bears approached and importantly did not approach the bears at any time (the one lady shouldn't have elevated herself to look into the camera imo tho). Had the humans suddenly moved location/walked in a way that seemed like an advance to the bear, or the cubs by extremely bad luck investigated them, disaster was more likely, but none of that happened. This is all to refute a lot of the simplistic comments that confidently state how 'totally stupid' these people apparently are for 'getting that close to a mother bear and her cubs'. The only stupid things were the people splitting into two opposite groups for the bear to pay attention to, potentially making it feel more cornered, and the light chatter/camera noises. Almost all bear attacks on humans who are not literally hunting/chasing bears (they get what's coming to them as a risk) happen because the human (or humanS; though they're probably usually disparate enough to be seen as smaller single threats) has unknowingly or foolishly advanced on and so threatened the bear, since bears do NOT hunt humans, and then failed to do the proper defensive bear safety protocol. The victims in those scenarios are also likely up and moving around up until they see the bear/her cubs and/or the bear sees them, which comes as a sudden surprise to either party at what is now deemed a threatening distance to the bear, filling the encounter with much additional stress and uncertainty for both parties. None of that happens in this video.
Those are coastal brown bears. They are pretty docile. There is plenty of fish. So the adults don't get to snacking on the kiddos. Trying doing that to inland grizzly mamas. Unfortunately someone is going to that and dye after watching this. They should take this video down. Not a good idea to get close to grizzly mamas.
She was popping her jaw after she passed. Kind of her way of saying "you are too close, and I don't like it". "Bear puppies are so cute".-Mandy Baxter; the Last Man Standing
This group filming saw the bear coming from far away, so they could have moved away, but instead, they stayed on the bear's path, and you could tell the bear wasn't comfortable. It turned around to make sure that the guignol was not following them.
can't cure stupid. especially when they kept clicking that camera, thankfully the clicking didn't scare the cubs or it would have been a whole different ending to this video
Don't try to explain complex or complicated to a liberal. In her own little world she believes those people were in great danger because bears don't like white people.
In the end it would have been the bear doing the filming: talking about how the situation was so crazy and how she and her Cubs ended up with the camera.
Telling people that a wild animal like a bear is less dangerous than a DOMESTIC dog is wildly irresponsible. Every animal has the potential to snap, and just because you follow the proper procedure does not make you completely safe. This is especially true when offspring are involved
I love the people's reaction, like "All cool! We got to see a massive mama bear with her cubs up close!". In reality, more like Mama bear didn't perceive you as a threat and as such did not destroy your faces and rip you to shreds.
Love it how people and nature can just co-exist sometimes. Like here, where the bears just mind their own business and the people keep to themselves, keeping peace between groups and allowing 'deadly closeups' like this, to be possible with no real fear for safety. Now had the cubs wandered to the humans, there might've been a different story. But you never know.
It is a wonderful video with the exception of the woman who felt she was more important than those bears. If you have the need to stick your face in the photos when something this magical is taking place, then just stay home and take pictures of yourself.
tbh i highly doubt ...just cause all we heard was the sound of a camera doesn't mean thats all they were packing...anyone who ventures where they know there is bears will have bear spray and guns....and if you think these people going "awesome" wouldn't immediately shoot that mother in the face if she acts out...you're mistaken
Sprint Rollingon ARE GUYS STUPID THESE comments omfg. FIRST THE BEAR DECIDED TO GET CLOSE . She felt no threat because she came close. THE PEOPLE DIDNT GET CLOSE TO THE BEAR. Real smart, have groups of people on either side of a Grizzly with cubs. Damn lucky you didn't get mauled, that bear must have just had the best meal of it's life prior to seeing you.
Especially the ones sitting or laying down who couldn't get away if they needed to. Seems stupid to me. Then when they get attacked or killed, you only see headlines about a "Bear Mauling" not how they were provoked or their territory invaded by a group of dummies. It's always the vicious bear. Never the dumbass humans fault. Here's their sign ?

I had a similar encounter at the Denali Nationalpark 25 years ago. Bears are not aggressive - when they know you are there, minding your own business, they do not care about you to much. There was an airstrip close by, so the bears have likely seen humans before. Also, the video was shot in midst of july, salmon season just started, there is plenty of food, that is much more nutritious than humans.

@@austindenotter19 So humans cant go out and explore? The greatest inventions and discoveries were all because people went out and explored. Jesus christ.
The mother bear was seeing humans all her life since she was the age of her cubs most likely, so she knew from her experience that humans are not a threat. Encounters with sows with cubs in areas that the bears did not literally grow up with humans around are entirely different matter.
That bear can out run, out swim and out climb the fitest humans on this planet. When you see a bear approaching on the horizon you should get very much out of the way. Fools with a capital F
Are you sure brown bears can climb at all? I know black bears are excellent climbers, but she looks way to heavy for climbing. On the other hand, climbing wouldnt be an option in this case^^
ok bud, go watch some bears attacking human videos and you'll see how violently unpredictable and spontaneous a bear can be,. especially if they get startled
Actually Bears don't give a crap who you are. These people did the right thing. They didn't bother her, didn't cause her to think they were a threat to her or her cubs. Goes to show how little you know of bears. I have been fishing with bears, and I would say 99% of the time, if you don't bother them, they wont bother you.
they made everything right, so you are fool with small f ) she is going very calm! In situation when so many people around - nobody moves, shes a mother, any movement in such situation can trigger her! Especially because they were sitting, standing up in this particular case could be a mistake!
I think this is a lot safer being out in the open because the Mother Bear can see the people from a far distance and know they aren't a threat. If you walked through the thick woods and happened to find yourself face to face with a surprised Mother Bear and 2 cubs she'll attack if she feels theatened.
You see when the sow kept opening and closing her mouth as she walked by... she was nervous. One wrong look, too much eye contact, or one of the cubs walking close to the group, this would have been a completely different video. They are so lucky not only to get an amazing video but even more so, no one was mauled by the beautiful mother sow.
These people really don't understand what their dealing with, especially considering the cubs. The smallest gesture or sound can cause a mother to attack while guarding its young. Videos like this give the wrong impression to people on the correct attitude toward wild Grizzly/Brown bears. Should NEVER allow yourself to get this close by choice.
Yes, all it can take is a video to make them look approachable (like this clip). Next time you never know, someone may even attempt to pat one on the head, without being fully aware of what a bear is capable of doing.
+Dinoxt12 What do you think they should have done? Obviously they didn't expect to run into a bear, and once the bear is around the best thing to do is stay put and not do anything to alarm it.
+Dinoxt12 they acted correctly, kept calm and didnt move.......... please educate yourself, information is as easy to find on the internet as posting crud
+Rabbi Shlomo Shekelberg-Rubingoldstein The lady herself said @ 1:02 it was a "Bear Trip". Of course they expected to see bears...that was their objective! I'm quite sure they saw the bear long before this video began filming it. Yeah, people go out all the time in places like that to experience the bears...but they know to stay a far distance away and not invite an attack. So like Dinoxt12 said, they were rather brainless, and also lucky they didn't get killed. Female bears with cubs are by far the most dangerous and likely to attack, whether you've being still or not! You can lie down and play dead and they'll still attack. They don't have to have cubs either to decide to attack...remember, to a hungry bear YOU are on the menu!

Simple answer to this one: wait for the bear to have a bowel movement.
I was on this same exact tour with those same guides in June 2018...best trip I’ve ever been on in my entire life :)
It's a miracle you haven't ended up on liveleak
Did you act like these idiots.??
@@willnot3297 I mean these people didn’t do anything wrong. They just remained calm and the bears knew they weren’t a threat. These bears are so confident around people, mother bears have sometimes left their cubs near people while they go get food, as they expect the humans to provide great protection.
@@ExxotikGaming I'm not gonna claim to be a bear expert, but im pretty sure everything you just said is wildly incorrect
@@ExxotikGaming of course the bears are confident around you. They can tear you to shreds for a snack.
The claws on that thing
I couldn’t tell but it looks like at 0:50 or so it started smacking its jaw, which is a sign of agitation. I don’t think these people know how lucky they were. I am assuming the sheer number of people is what prevented an attack, and no one moved suddenly but even still lucky.
I noticed the same thing
No, you’re exactly right. That wasn’t cool that was stupid. A lot of shots. Betty, how was that? Fuck atta here.
Not really. Bears in that area know humans are not a threat. The ONLY people in that park that are armed are the Rangers, the rest of pepper spray. Bears are not hunted there, and the bears know this. As long as you don't make yourself a threat, the bear will leave you alone. They remained calm, didn't act stupid or tried to threaten the bear. You will notice that the bear didn't act threatening towards the humans, made sure that her cubs were on the other side of her. Most bears wont care if there is a human around. It's when someone makes a move towards her that things go bad. Bears don't go around attacking humans for no good reason. They don't want to spend the energy doing that. The park has about 80,000 people every year and there has only been one minor incident. Timothy Treadwell ignored the Ranger and wasn't even where this bear was.
Understanding bear language is one of the best ways to avoid conflict. A bear rearing up on its hind legs is not preparing to devour hikers, it is simply getting a better perspective on what kind of bi-pedal, lime-green-polar fleece-wearing creature is approaching. Avoid eye contact and back away slowly while speaking loudly, but calmly. Do not run, bears like many animals, will instinctively chase fleeing creatures, including humans. If you back away calmly and give the bear its space, more than likely it will make a hasty retreat. Almost every single Ranger in Denali, Katmai, and Glacier say the same thing.
Notice the first phrase Understanding bear language...that's how you can tell this bear wasn't worried about the humans. It appears to me that you might be someone who just automatically jumps to conclusions without actually knowing anything.
"Bears in that area know humans are not a threat."
Wow, how do you know, do you send bears in the area a shot survey every month or something?
This is just stupid, these are wild animals, they don't "know", they use their instinct and react to the environment.
What if one of the humans can not keep their cool and starts running, or one of the bear cubs runs towards the humans?
You have a powerful and not fully predictable wild animal, that can kill all of these idiots in seconds, especially with the bears cubs around as well.
@@JC-XL Try reading up on Katmai and the salmon season before making smart ass comments. Maybe you'll learn something.
If you ever do visit Alaska, don't be like these people. Bears are much faster than they look, and if they do decide to go after you it's not going to be pretty.
Bears are extremely fast, much faster than humans. Actually, short of turtles and sloth, not too many animals are slower than humans!
they run faster, swim faster and climb faster than human.
That's right. Also, National Park rules say bears have the right-of-way, and humans are expected to stay at least 50 yards from a bear.
They must have been in a circle.

The video would be messed up if theres Squidward
Bears usually avoid large groups of people, but it seems that mother bear had no natural fear for humans. Otherwise it wouldn't have gotten so close with her cubs. Dangerous situation nevertheless.
Normally people don’t get that close to grizzly bears would u say all those people have no natural sense of fear of the bear. They just knew not to fuck with her, Maybe the bear was intelligent to know not to fuck with them
@@pastorhaze9509 I don’t think that’s a grizzly, but I may be corrected

@Jay Ceebut it rips humans around apart to protect cubs.
Jay Cee Doesn’t eat but it will protect its cubs and any sign of danger
Not a bear-human relations expert, but I think the key distinctions between this very close encounter with a mother bear and her cubs and more eventful instances (besides what some others have commented about this particular National Park, Katmai, hosting bears that are used to human presence, which I have no comment on) are that here:
(1) it would seem the mother bear was continuously very aware of the humans presence from a long distance/time leading up to this, due to clear line-of-sight environment
(2) the mother freely, pretty calmly (some chewing motions but no grunts) walked in the direction of the humans, of all possible directions she could choose to walk in, _with her cubs_ mind you.
(3) the humans were relatively numerous and more densely packed into a group (less worth the bears energy and perceived safety to antagonize preemptively), and
(4) the humans safely stayed put as and after the bears approached and importantly did not approach the bears at any time (the one lady shouldn't have elevated herself to look into the camera imo tho).
You're trying to attribute deterministic behavior to bears too much. They're just unpredictable creatures, sometimes savage even, period.
You guys should've took a baby bear and said it's just a prank bro

Those are coastal brown bears. They are pretty docile. There is plenty of fish. So the adults don't get to snacking on the kiddos. Trying doing that to inland grizzly mamas. Unfortunately someone is going to that and dye after watching this. They should take this video down. Not a good idea to get close to grizzly mamas.
From the size of the cubs, they look like in june-july when they just out from hibernation

Because then the ones who pet them end up dead. Get too close to a bear, it will attack.
This group filming saw the bear coming from far away, so they could have moved away, but instead, they stayed on the bear's path, and you could tell the bear wasn't comfortable. It turned around to make sure that the guignol was not following them.

Love it how people and nature can just co-exist sometimes. Like here, where the bears just mind their own business and the people keep to themselves, keeping peace between groups and allowing 'deadly closeups' like this, to be possible with no real fear for safety.
