- Опубліковано 7 лют 2017
- Tony Stark has created his most advanced suit of armor yet: one with artificial intelligence! The suit moves on its own, fights on its own - and makes decisions on its own. The new Iron Man has none of Tony’s weaknesses - except Rumiko Fujikawa, the woman Tony loves. The suit loves her, too. And so, for it to take over Tony’s life and “become” him for good, Iron Man must kill Tony Stark! Never miss an episode by subscribing today! bit.ly/2WYvgkt #ironman

Pick up The Mask in the Iron Man here: amzn.to/2kkp6M9
Ben is rocking that Guy Gardener jacket.
*phone rings and Iron Man picks up*
*Jocasta:* "Listen, we have to talk."
*Iron Man:* "What is it?"
*Jocasta:* "I...Oh man, this is embarrassing. I may have given you Sentience."
*Iron Man:* "WHAT? Didn't you have protection?"
*Jocasta:* "I forgot to update. Sorry."
Just Some Guy with a Mustache TTD's. Technologically Transmitted Diseases.
ICONIC!
"The armor's a psycho bitch" - Sal 2017.
"a cod piece that blasts whips". I had a good laugh at that.
Ethan's *"WHAT"* killed me lol
I think it's funny how Sal didn't even reference the episode of Iron Man Armored Adventures (the nicktoons animated series where Tony's a teenager) that adapts this story almost exactly. Tony's suit gains sentience in an electrical storm battle with Whiplash, they beat Whiplash to death or near death I think, Tony fights the suit, it kills itself to save him after upsetting his arc reactor. Very weird, but I remember it being better than this, mainly cause the suit was acting like an overprotective mother mixed with HAL 9000, as opposed to a psycho bitch ex.
Iron Man: Get inside me!
*forces Tony inside him*
this is way more rapey than I like my Iron Man stories
Iron Man: Fatal AIttraction
What is this, some weird Iron Man fanfiction?
As soon as Kurt Busiek fixed Iron Man, Joe Quesada beat him back down.
Sounds like good ol’ Joe Q to me.
@@rayvenkman2087 Yupp
I CAN'T STOP WATCHING BACK ISSSUES! more addictive than Half in the Bag
Fuck movies!
PLUS, SAL ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT!
@@HomeNuke red letter media know what there talking about too, sal has just as many controversial opinions as rlm does in there areas of expertise as well but there both still entertaining lol
Finding out that Y2K was the "plot twist" made me die laughing
rorschach221 hahaha yeah... basically the warranty of his "Sentience Firewall" app got expired due to Y2K... hahahaha
Worst book is Sins Past! At least the armour doesn't have an Osborne "O" face
Any one remember the Nicktoons Ironman cartoon Armored Adventures? They actually adapted the whole "Armor becoming sentient" story in one episode, and it was much better.
I remember
To be fair to the Y2K bug thing, like, the Y2K bug WAS actually a legitimate problem. It only doesn't look like it in retrospect because people fixed it. Like, the concerns of the Y2K bug breaking stuff weren't totally ridiculous (just mostly ridiculous) and some steps did have to be taken to ensure nothing bad happens.
But the suit becoming sentient because of Y2K is still fucking dumb.
Also they missed a great opportunity by using that dumb idea to name it the Centurion or something.
Ah fuck it it's half past midnight, who needs sleep? XD
Woo! I can make reference to Spider-Man 2099 again! Stark-Fujikawa was a tech conglomerate competing against Alchemax. They also had their own corporate iron man type hero.
14:10 This must be done all in one motion. OK guys watch me go to work.
What’s this referencing?
Iron Man is like the most popular character with the least good stories lol.
Talon no cap beats him and nightwing beats him
Rbdn T Nightwing has plenty of good stories. And Cap has Man Out Of Time, the current Nick Spencer run. All of Ed Brubaker's long run, The Death Of Captain America, Civil War is arguably a Cap centric book, and that's not even counting the Sam Wilson stuff.
Good was the wrong word I meant iconic like year one or demon in a bottle or watchmen
Rbdn T The character of Dick Grayson has at least 2 that I can think of.
1. The Black Mirror
2. Robin Year One
And both Man Out Of Time and Winter Soldier are very iconic Cap stories.
Iron Man volume 1 is pretty solid from 116-318 with bits of mediocre filler here and there (after that "The Crossing" happened which destroyed the character). Michelinie and Layton's two runs, Denny O'Neil's run, John Byrne's run and Len Kaminski's run are all good stuff. For a long time Iron Man might not have been a super popular book but it was a dependably good one.
Kurt Busiek's run that started volume 3 is also pretty solid but after that Iron Man stories were complete garbage for years, starting with Quesada and Tieri. Warren Ellis' Extremis and the Knauf brothers' Director of Shield were both really good. Matt Fraction's run is critically adored but fans tend to either love it or hate it.
Ethan's "WHAT?!" made me crack like iron mans armor. He's a national treasure xD
the first issue of this was legitamately my first ever comic, in a british reprint, with the first issue of winter soldier as well
"I'm your greatest enemy Iron Man, I'm Gimplash." Stupidest iron man story ever.
I remember when my girlfriend gained sentience, it was rough couple of weeks
tranza alfa
"HOW ARE THEY FIGTING?! Let's go back, let's go _baack_..."
Best part! LOL
I love it when you guys do episodes on really obscure books, they're some of my favorite ones
Detroit Steel is a pretty good Iron Man story. The one where he teams with a bunch of his enemies to fight the Mandarins is also pretty good.
This is one of my favorite episodes. I have only one explanation for this: it is a perfect book for the show. It is irrelevant, bad, and great for riffing.
All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder is easily the worst book you've done on Back Issues. "He needs to eat rats!" XD
At least that was drawn by Jim Lee.
Yeah but even he couldn't save that book.
Not saying he made it good, just that if we're talking about the worst an awful story with good art is still better than an awful story with bad art.
I like Matt Fraction's Iron Man run a lot but yeah not many great Iron Man stories hahaha
omarogd ultimate ironman is my favourite story because it takes a new spin on the origin story and I love the suit in the ultimate universe because it looks like something in the real world. And it gets back the idea of having him as a teenager but it's done better and it's not stupid
Freelancer agent Yellowknife
There are tons of great iron man stories but there are quite a few bad ones
The discussion about the original Whiplash's death got me thinking about a great Elseworlds Exchange idea. Comic book deaths. You could talk about which deaths were more or less effective, which resurrections were good, etc
37:18 for one of the funniest moments in Back Issues history.
The Japanese?! _Those sandal-wearing, goldfish tenders?!_
Just Some Guy with a Mustache Yes!
We should have listened to that boy instead of walling him up in a coke oven.
ohh shit ethan almost went super saiyan 'whaaaaaat'!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vegethan
Man Ben is like Ethan in this episode he was so done with this story. And the worst story you've done would be One more day but then again that's just my inner fanboy talking
I would say that the worst book you've ever done is Dark Knight Strikes Again. That book is awful in every possible way. The art is impossible to look at, it hurts my enjoyment of the original Dark Knight Returns, and it's repulsive in it's ideas. But if you want to do a REALLY bad Frank Miller book, then Holy Terror is your best (or worst) bet.
Batfreeze Are you a Linkara fan by chance?
Maybe....
Bad books make great episodes! I couldn't stop laughing at how terrible the book was!! Thanks again for another great show!
Ooh! This is the perfect compliment to yet another day of horrid flu.
You guys have brightened my fever XD
JudaTheIsm You too!?
Me too! Getting down with the sickness!
JudaTheIsm The four of us now
My list for worst stories on Back Issues.
1.Spider-Man:One More Day-For the effects it had and lazy writing pertaining to Aunt May's bullet wound.
2.Spider-Man: Sins Past-the reaction of Gwen Stacy and Norman Osbourn having sex and kids, also stupidity.
3.All Star Batman and Robin: Terrible writing.
4.Batman the Dark Knight Strikes Again:Awful sequel to amazing work.
5.Spider-Man:Reign- For the whole Mary Jane dying to Spider-man's radioactive sperm.
6.Wolverine:The End-Cool things that amount to nothing.
7.Superman:Grounded-For being pointless, stupid and taking too long.
8.Ghost Rider:Road to Damnation-being terrible.
***** They only touched upon a part of the Clone Saga before it got truly bad. If you count the whole series then yes the whole 3 year long series would be on the list. Also Superman/Doomsday:Hunter Prey, Atlantis Attacks and Zero Hour are not that bad, they just haven't aged well. The others were not only badly written but ruined great characters.
joe mcnoe Unintentionally Hilarious but also stupid. Fittingly also why some of the others aren't on my list. Troll 2 is still a bad movie its just also hilarious.
Always watching Superman Doomsday was good you crazy ass, lol.
*NAILED IT*
I can't remember quaking with rage quite like I did listening about this book.
Some Iron Man stories I wouldn't mind seeing that are in trade or omnibus form:
Bob & Dave stuff are a given, "Demon in a Bottle", "Doomquest," "Armor Wars."
Denny O'Neil's run Epic Collections: "Enemy Within," "Duel of Iron" with "Iron Monger" trade for the story finale.
Iron Man: War Machine (I wish more of Kaminski's run was in trade form. The "Hands of the Mandarin" crossover is meh.)
Byrne's Armor Wars 2 and/or Dragon Seed Saga
Kurt Busiek's run, or at least the "Iron Age" two-part mini.
Extremis
Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Enter the Mandarin" miniseries.
Fraction's "Five Nightmares" and/or "World's Most Wanted"
OH GOD Joe Quesada
39:01 Incognitous!
The worst book is definitely a toss up between this, Sins Past and Superman: For Tomorrow.
I'd say All-Star Batman and Robin The Boy Wonder too, but I don't think that story's even finished so I'm not sure if it counts as a *story* per se.
I was literally refreshing my feed like a lunatic waiting for this! Save me from boredom!!
It's Over 9000 Productions you on the discord?
Beall Pepper discord?
52:04, 6 years later, with Marville, probably cant be topped lol
Hey Sal, I gotta ask, where the hell is War Machine during all of this? Isn't Rhodes like his partner and best friend? I read Force Works and in that, their relationship had waned, but they became friends again and he was Iron Man at some point. Did Quesada forget about one of Tony's partners, friends and confidants? Or did he think he didn't really need him for something like this? Sorry if I'm asking too much. I'm just genuinely surprised he's not a part of this, trying to help Tony.
I don't think they even mention him.
At this point in the timeline Rhodes has retired from super hero-ing and is running a marine salvage company. He shows up a little bit in Busiek's run directly before this but he doesn't do much. Busiek, being a silver-age fan was more interested in bringing back Pepper and Happy who had only shown up in rare cameos since the 60's.
The original War Machine suit (which Rhodes lost before gaining his weird alien suit for a while) had also fallen into the hands of a villain that Iron Man faced during Busiek's run. The comics really didn't make much use of Rhodey again until years later.
Christopher Blair Huh, okay, thanks for the info. I'm just surprised he doesn't at least have a supporting role, mostly because I like War Machine to be honest XD
Hey, Sal! Any plans on doing Superman: Secret Identity? One of my favorite Superman stories.
Totally
Jonathan Leiman Fuck yeah, one of the best Superman stories ever!
All star batman and robin the boy wonder was a pretty bad story. But made for one of the best back issues
Atlantis Attacks
*mic drop*
Was waiting for someone to say this
23:51 Jesus, calm down Ethan.
This is one of the best episodes ever!
another great episode as usual. through you guys ive learned to appreciate even a "bad" story, thanks guys n gals. 👍
If anything, this Iron Man story tells a disturbing tale of what might be going on in the mind of Joe Quesada....
Great episode! I love seeing you do solo characters that you don't usually do. Any chance of getting an Iron Fist story before the show comes out?
This was a great episode and a great intro to Ironman on Back Issues
that shreek shock! laugh was priceless..i was shocked to to see whiplash like that lol
Hmm. A story about a superhero who’s costume is sentient and falls madly in love with him. Why does this plot sound so familiar?
Another great episode as always! :)
Amazing episode guys. I can't wait for the next one. Sal, all of your Back Issues are great. There is not a worst one to choose! The worst book in my opinion has to be the Spiderman where Osbourne bangs Gwen retroactively. Forgive me for not remembering the name. That one detail of the book is all my brain allows me to remember.
Have a great week guys and keep it up!
Amazing episode as always guys! For me the worst books you've done in no particular order are:
All-star Batman and Robin
One More Day
The Clone Saga
Dr Strange: Beginnings and Endings
Honestly, I thought that title was clever. Not used well, but still kinda clever.
Remember that kids? 29:55
Hi guys, another great episode... Thumbs up to you guys!!!
Also, speaking of Iron Man, I would like to see Ethan's reaction on the feasibility of Extremis technology... hehehe
And, my worst comics I've ever read was The Dark Knight Strikes Again... incomprehensible, art is hard to look at; i'll never read it again...
One More Day, Sins Past, The Other, Iron Man , and Ultimatum......... but i love seeing those videos of you covering them, god i love you guys lol
Yet another hilarious episode, guys..!! In answer to your question though, there are no bad episodes, so the worst doesn't exist. Worst book..? I don't know... Which one did you feel you all dumped on the most..? It's a shame really. I missed the whole Onslaught Saga and the Heroes Reborn stuff, but I jumped on at issue one of Heroes Return Thor #1 by Jurgens and Romita jnr which was awesome, and Iron man #1 by Busiek and Chen. Loved them both very much, but don't remember how far into the runs I got. This book obviously followed that run.
Great episode once again guys, funny as hell!
Ethan, what happened to your nail? you aight?
So Quesada not only ruined Spider-man aka peter parker but he ruined iron man aka tony stark too what the fuck is wrong with Quesada why can't this hack go away not you guys because you guys are great, i meant Quesada
Quesada actaully did great work with the "Marvel Knights" characters. Especially the Inhumans.
But yeah, he's not very clever. I can't believe Inman called his time as executive the best in Marvel history. That was an obvious corporate stooge move.
figures why am i not surprised
EgocentricHead can't say the same for spidey
true yes but he was the one who instigated one more day to begin with which not only destroyed peter parker and mary jane characters but it also everything that was unique with peter and mary jane and made peter into a complete and utter manchild and i hate that doesn't work for peter it also makes him make a deal with the devil to which i say bullshit peter parker and mary jane would never make a deal with the devil to save poor aunt may that doesn't work
"We can do this Tony!... Do what???"
(Probably pointless writing this 4 years after upload) Rumiko would disappear from the series for like ten or fifteen issues and then come back just to get killed by an Iron Man imposter. As far as I know, she has never been brought back.
Iron Age & Armor wars was a fun one
Suggestions for future iron man stories:
The Five Nightmares, World's more wanted, Stark Disassembled, Stark Resilient & Extremis
This is Superior Iron Man before Superior Iron Man!
So this armor is pretty much the Venom symbiote with Peter, right?
23:51 we know your pain Ethan
Deeny'O Neils run on iron man was one of my favourites where he became a vagrant
It's definitely overlooked. I hope more people will discover it now that pretty much the entire run is available in trade.
Loved the video guys...one question were did Ben get that green lantern jacket? Keep it up you beautiful people.
The top stories I think you guys should review are superman brainiac, batman son of the demon, iron man extremis, and superman secret identity.
Holy crap... that story suuuuucks, which makes this back issues awesome!
LMAO This back Issues was the best!
Aww man. I really enjoyed the Demon in a Bottle and Armor Wars episodes so I was hoping I'd be able to come back and enjoy this one but I seriously thought that The Mask in the Iron Man was a fantastic story. Honestly one of my favorite times reading Iron Man of all time. Well either way y'all are entertaining so I had a fun time watching.
39:07
The Iron Man suit is using the incognito outfit.
Objectively - All Star Batman & Robin, the Boy Wonder | Subjectively - The Best Goddamn Batman Story Ever Told!
Classic episode 👌
Iron Man's Busiek, Stern, Quesada run is really good my favorite is the 2 issue special by Busiek Iron Man the Iron Age. I also do love the Doom crossover and Demon in the Bottle. I don't like extremis but at least Iron Man is Iron Man in the comic instead of someone cosplaying as Iron Man like todays "Marvel Why?" line of comics.
You guys should read the Bionicle comics.
Matt Fractions run on Invincible Ironman! Now that's a good run on Ironman!
"All Star Batman and Robin" would be my vote for worst you have covered, also, are you guys going to do "Annihilation" any time soon? Might be a good book to do around when "Guardians of the Galaxy" 2 comes out as the modern team where created out of that event.
Gonna be honest. This video sold me on reading this story.
Scott Snyder did an Iron man story for the NOIR universe. it's pretty much steampunk Indiana Jones and it's awesome.
One thing I have to point out that I don't think you went over, there's no arc reactor... Only a magnet
30:01 That moment you know you fucked up.
I'm just starting the final issue of The Terminatrix Objective. I think it could be a highly entertaining Back Issues
Love how Sals best pick worst book are creations of Joe qussada XD
hard to pick but I say the 90s marvel dc crossover
So marvel tries to create villains for the character with the second most iconic rogues gallery,spider-man,but not for iron man who has like 2 villains?
I'm making Ben's "Oh, fuck you Quesada" my ringtone.
Superman: For Tomorrow made me never pick up a book by Brian Azzarello again, I couldn't even finish it, thank you for covering that, but the worst are ether Superman Grounded or Spider-Man Sins Past
didn't they already release this episode I'm feeling deja vu
I see a lot of interesting ideas in this. I think it's the execution that likely ruins it. I'll have to put this on my list to read.
U guys should do Armor Wars
It's so good and dat Silver Centurion Armor
Looks like he took the Symbiote story and made it fit Tony's mold- What if Peter got therapy after destroying the costume? 🤣
Could you guys possibly do an Iron Fist story as i'm very interested in the character.
