The breath and imprint and fragrance of the Holy Spirit permeates the Orthodox Church as it's the ancient Church founded by Christ and the Apostles. The cannons are a response, as is Боже, Царя храни! In the 1812 Overture, I like to think of the story as God NOT HEARING the prayers of the Tsar or the nobility, but a peasant widow prayed, AND GOD HEARD HER. His answer involved the man appointed for the job, doing his job.

Pyotr Ilyich sent me. I've always wondered about the key component parts and themes of the "1812 Overture," and now I know just a bit more. Spasiba, kaBulkin.

Allen Lichner I read that Tchaikovsky considered 1812 an uninspired hack piece, and I was like “wow he must have been really depressed! That first passage In particular is the most beautiful, inspired music I’ve ever heard in my life! In fact that should be its own song!” 😒then I read that he lifted it whole from this hymn, to represent the prayers of the Russian people facing napoleon’s army. Now I’m like “yeah, Tchaikovsky, that was kinda a cheap thrill, the cannons and all” 🤨
I'm fairly sure the music came directly from one or more people who decided to compose it. Stop discrediting legitimate human beings for their creations by attributing it to fairy tale characters. PS: #triggered people below

The transliteration looses a bit of the pronunciation in Russian, if you listen well you will see that the o is pronounced a; "Liudi tbaya" etc. in Russian the o before the accentuated syllable sounds a. Cheers!

Why is this musical version so different from the Greek one (Soson Kyrie)? I like this celebratory and joyful tone much more! I would describe it as a triumphal chorus. Can one find this musical version with Greek lyrics too?
Because in Russia and the orthodox churches related to Russia, they use Slavonic music, in the old churches, greek churches and the related to them churches they use Byzantine music
It's the opening chorale; when the 1812 is performed by orchestra-only, it is usually a cello solo. The english translation in use is: 'O Lord, save thy people, and bless thine inheritance. Is this group a Uniate group, or Orthodox? Three things make me think it might be Uniate: (1) the lack of beards, (2) the lack of an iconostasis, and (3) the Roman cross which is visible, instead of the three-bar Slavic cross. At any rate, I love their singing !
