@@saphirestorm7952I’d take edgy over goofy purples and green. I guess it’s just personal preference but the black shiny looks sleek and you can’t really go wrong.

Are you kidding me? It got green eyes like the rest of the line’s shinies in a game where it’s unused sprites. Is it that hard to just change the eyes in the mainline games?
Shiny Gengar actually had a different shiny in a pokemon arcade game and a mobile game that was a sick greenish blue I’ll look for the game name and edit this when I find it Edit: it was Pokemon Duel
Honestly all they’d have to do to fix gengar’s shiny is just make him more closer to black, like a shadow They did do the same thing for combusken’s shiny so…
Someone understands why I say gengar is my favourite shiny i always have to explain this happy to see I’m not the only one who thinks this shiny is not bad
@@raigrex8362 The shiny wasn't bad early on, but it became worse over time with the loss of normal Gengar's Color. It was still kinda bad back then, but it wasn't garbage.
What I find interesting is that for garchomp, it had the reverse effect. Now, it still isn't super different due to their skin tones and lighting in some areas, but the difference is way more noticeable in the 3D games than in the sprite games.
Agreed! But it’s often mentioned as one of the subtle shinies (even though it really wasn’t subtle in Gen 4) and I couldn’t think of another one to put there at the time 😅
I used to love shiny haunted because some of the 2D sprites would have a blue aura around the hands, sadly they never added that when they made the transition to 3D. I don’t blame them, but it really ruined the shiny for me.
I have always thought that shiny gengar is a lot less subtle then people say, but when i saw the purple eyes i knew that would make it a lot better today.
The same thing also just happened with Gastly’s model in Scarlet and Violet. It used to be an awesome high-contrast difference of darker purple vs lighter blue. SV changed regular Gastly’s surrounding mist to be more washed out and blueish so, combined with how significantly lighting affects Pokémon in those games, its shiny now looks barely different :(
I love the old bright purple Gengar but the straight up black Gengar from Gen1 and Gen2 was my favorite, made him look like an actual evil shadow creature haha
It’s actually a problem a lot of people complain about, being that the move to 3D desaturated almost every Pokémon’s colors. Pretty much every vibrant color was brought down significantly.
The problem is also the 3D games themselves. For SOME reason they just, dulled a lot of colours when going from sprites to 3D models, making some shinies, like Gengar here, worse b/c they look so close to the non shiny. You are allowed to have vibrantly coloured models guys! It's not a bad thing!
resaturate the base sprite’s purples and reds and make the pink eyes on shiny gengar brighter, and the whole problem is solved and it’s a really solid shiny
The Volcanion movie had an even better color for Shiny Gengar. It was a light navy blueish color(which appeared in multiple spin off games such as Pokémon Duel and Pokémon Tretta).
I thought I noticed some of the pokemon looking duller in the newer games, but I didn't know it was actually a thing. I really hope they fix this at some point.
Gengar in modern games really just needs to be as vibrantly colored as Ash's. Since his looked way different from the desaturated Gengars we've seen in the last like ten years. That way the shiny variant will actually look different in comparison.
To me it looks like both changed over time, not just the regular. The shiny looked almost black in 2D but in 3D games it looks purple and the regular also looks purple but desaturated.
Justice for shiny Gengar! GF did the regular Gengar dirty. I wish they made sure every shiny stands out among their regular form. It pains me to see cool Pokémon don’t get the noticeable shiny treatment. 😢
THANK YOU! I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS! Shiny gengar was actually sick! I feel the same about shiny glaceon too, actually, though I know many that disagree. It was super pretty back in gen 4. The bright white and crystal blue was perfect!
Pokémon were often saturated in the 2d era due to many sprites having legacy traits of when Pokémon was on consoles on non back-lit or poor quality screens
In this case, I'd say that the shiny should become a stronger shade of grey in order to compensate. Though, it still sucks that Gengar is no longer as vibrant as before.
See, I like Gengar having that warmer purple, but I also like the cooler purple it has now, and now I'm thinking that Pokemon should have broader ranges of color, like with some actual variation that isn't just the shinies
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYINNNN people don't wanna admit that the problems started progressing in the sprite games though!! Others have brought up Regice, and that's another major one. I'm so glad we as a society are finally starting to examine the shiny opinions/preconceptions that were cultivated in 2016 and have remained unchallenged since
Hey shiny Glaceon is good! Sure maybe it’s a bit hard to notice at first but it’s a much lighter color for the main body, almost a white color whereas regular glaceon is aquamarine in color. And the crown on her head is a beautiful shade of light blue compared to a darker blue on the regular. Lastly, the markings, tips of the ears, and end of the tail are a gorgeous deep navy blue compare to another shade of aquamarine on the regular colors. It’s a subtle difference but I think the colors are so gorgeous and mesh perfectly to make a really nice shiny
EXACTLY this is the case for a handful of pokes with "bad shinies" like honestly if gamefreak was consistent with their coloring wetd have a lot less of these issues.
Gengar's shiny is actually pretty good when you can see more tones of different colors 😃👍. I genuenly can perfectly see both gengars like black and white just 'cause I have an extra cone and I just love my smiley ghosty 😎
I think they should either fix regular gengar back to how it was before or take shiny gengar and make it a full on black or possibly a navy blue sorta shiny
I cannot understand for the life of me why they changed his colors… I loved the original non shiny gengar’s bright and saturated purple, it was a very beautiful shade. I’m mad they changed it
It’s the same thing with Glaceon. In DPP - BW it has a beautiful whiteish blue body, with brighter blue on the ears with the tips being a darker shade. But once it got to 3D it completely was color washed :(
I never understood why they didn't make his shiny straigh up black or just a dark gray with no purple in the 3d transition, instead of having almost the same colour (precisely because of the saturation problem) and i personally think it got a little worse with SV's lighting system, where unless you're manually checking every gastly or haunter, it's basically imposible to differentiate them from the shiny (i know haunter's mouth is blue in the shiny, but its still really hard to notice it if you're not shiny hunting)
FINALLY someone understands!
