    I would LOVE to see a comparison vs Audient preamps :) And whatever else that's available of course

      I would LOVE to be able to bring you that! However, I don’t think I’m a ‘big enough’ fish in these waters…

      @@ChrisMutchJones Thank you! If you happen to have anything else to compare it to or use it with then I'd watch that :)

    If the SSL 18 had a DB25 connection..but alas. Audient iD48 for me with the new Black Lion 500 Rack. I'm sure the SSL 18 sounds great...and the price is reasonable imo.

      You may have a point. However, it is SSL’s first 1U rack unit AI and I think they’ve hit a lot of bases that make this a compelling option in 2025. More thoughts in my full review.

    API and NEUMANN need to make an 8ch.. Many people are ditching Boards for a small 8ch. Studio. I have an Antelope Discrete 8 Pro

      @@AntonovichHicksenbrau as a betting man I'd put my flat on RME destroying SSL18. yeah but you've never heard it.... yeah right whatever. SSL do have low noise but nothing like RME. Tracking in instruments w/efx it would be ok.

      We reach a point where the quality of the converters in an audio interface don’t really matter anymore if you have an interface from a known company: RME, SSL, Focusrite, Audient, Universal Audio, Antelope, you name it… Unless you’re buying some really crappy made in Chinese no name interface, the converters today are good enough to not make a huge difference… unless you’re recording 150 musicians in the same time. Does it mean they’re all the same and no difference? No, if you look deeply you can find some difference, surely with some high-end interface (Prism, Lynx, etc…), but the difference are barely noticeable at all… There are probably thousand other things in your music production that could make your music worse… converters aren’t one of them. If you’re on Windows, drivers could have an influence on your latency, but again, today with USB-C and Thunderbolt, and with super powerful computers, it’s not like it was in the past. So pick the brand you like the best, the interface that will have all the I/O you need, at the price point you can afford… don’t waste your money to buy, sell, buy something else, resell thinking you can have “better”… it won’t change your life. Investing your money into room treatment to have a better sound quality, to hear better when you mix will be way life changing than new converters. I use to spend days to make blind test to compare converters, preamp, mics, you name it… all to figure out what was the “best quality” I could get to the studio, I tried many brand, from UA, Lynx, Prism, RME, Avid, Apogee and probably more that I don’t come to mind now, but still, in the end, it doesn’t really matter. I won’t say there was “no” difference, just that it’s irrelevant… you might hear the difference when you A/B tracks, but if you go have a drink and you come back and just listen one track without knowing, you won’t be able to point if it’s A or B. You can only hear the difference when you compare them to themselves. I hope it makes sense. So long story short: if you like your RME, keep it, save your money and invest it on something else. Good speaker, good mic, room treatment, that stuff might serve you more than new converters… Unless you’re not happy with your RME and you like the I/O provided by the SSL, in that case, go for the SSL, the quality will be just fine.

    67 dB is Very LITTLE, my friend! This is Little for Any microphone - to get Good Clean and Professional sound WITHOUT artifacts and HISS in the signal. I am sure you should know this.

    • @ChrisMutchJones
      @ChrisMutchJones  9 днів тому +3

      I think you are confused. The converters are 32bit and the preamps have a dynamic range of 120 Db. The 67 Db of Gain is input gain which can be applied to be able to use audio sources that have a low signal level.
