    Interesting perspective of Utah. I am a native Utah and one of those "Mormons" that you mention. Your research and knowledge of Utah is a little lacking. The term, "Mormon" is antiquated and not the name of the church. In fact, it is much like calling a black person a "negro". Perhaps you should seek out someone more knowledgeable on the subject.

      Thanks for the info! No disrespect to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at all, we simply noticed some cultural differences that impact tourists, such as Sunday business closures, drinking laws, and other observations that we mention in the video. Utah is an awesome state with amazing people 😎

      @@RunTheAtlas - I appreciate your response, especially given that the video was posted some time ago.
      It is true that Utah is very different than every other state, and that is use to the persecution of the adherents of the LDS Church and subsequent flight from the persecution. As a consequence, Utah developed as a largely insular territory where the population differs from those of surrounding areas. With that said, I appreciate your follow-up and outside perspective of our native Utah.

      I am a Mormon it is nothing like being called a negro and you should never make that comparison. This is a term the religion was proud of that name until 3 years ago when it was decided it was bad and all other past leaders were wrong. We even ran a media campaign calling ourselves that about 5 years ago! C’mon.

    MY WIFE IS A REDHEAD. The origin of the phrase "red headed step child" dates to the 1830's & 40's when Irish emigrants began arriving in America. The newly arrived Irish were somewhere below free blacks on the social scale at the time, and lived in segregated communities. Then, like now, young men were having se*ual relations with young women before marriage. Sometimes the men were Irish and the girls were not. This resulted in many out of wedlock children with that red Irish hair. When these young women did finally marry, usually to a young man not of Irish descent, the new husband was not particularly patient or sympathetic to the red haired step child and treated them harshly. The phrase is ❌DEROGATORY❌ although many do not know its origin, it is still considered an insult to knowledgeable people of Irish descent, and should be avoided in polite conversation.

    Mormons and mountains? You forgot the most beautiful deserts in North America! We have five National Parks showcasing the red rock deserts we have. They pull in way more people than our mountains.
    Also, showing empty streets in downtown Ogden on a cold Sunday night during a pandemic is not really a fair example. Did you see the streets if NYC during the pandemic? Looked pretty much just like Las Vegas, and Ogden.
    Lastly, there may be 61% Mormons here, but the actual active Mormons are far fewer. There is a huge population that claim membership, but do not participate. It's kind of a culture thing like Catholicism in Mexico.

    Lol you guys don’t know much about the liquor laws nor the vast amount of breweries, brew pubs or bars in SLC....Also, beer can be up to 5% in stores, anything higher is sold at the liquor store. Breweries, bars, brew pubs all sell beer higher than 5% & I don’t what this whole 5% liquor thing is? Are you guys saying the liquor store can’t sell anything above 5%?

    • @RunTheAtlas
      @RunTheAtlas  3 роки тому +2

      Yep - Utah allows beers with 4% alcohol by weight or 5% ABV to be sold in grocery stores, convenience stores. Restaurants and bars have different liquor laws and we were able to enjoy a number of craft brews while in Utah. It's very unique - you can read more about it here: www.visitutah.com/articles/utah-liquor-laws-visitor-guide
