I remember back in '93 when Duran Duran released this. I'd walk to high school ( Gr.11 ) and listen to this 4 times, both there and back, and think "Wow, this is one of the greatest songs ever written" ! I can truly say I enjoy BOTH versions.
Red did a great job. I like this more, just because I like modern music and tones better. If they're done right. But the writers of this song deserve credit too. It's truly beautiful.
This was my graduation song from the University. I embarked on my ‘real life’ with this song playing in my car. I found my Ordinary World and, like always, Duran Duran had a soundtrack for that phase in my life.
Hard to believe one of the bands at the centre of the 80’s new wave movement could make such a mature, deeply rich song with their comeback into the alternative scene in ‘93.
I've always loved this song, and though it happens rarely for me, this time the cover improves on the original. Red have captured every little melancholy element I loved about Duran Duran's version and taken it to another level. The vocal ad libs towards the end, the harmonies, the orchestral parts, the subtle piano in the verses... it all enhances an already brilliant song.
This song was very therapeutical for me at one time in losing my brother in '97. As a huge follower of various Christian bands, I love that Red picked up of how it resonates with so many. I love their video concept as well!
I listened to the original by DD by the time I lost my father. At first I thought it was just a break-up song. But the lyrics just hit hard on me. "Crazy, some'd say. Where is my friend when I need you most? Gone away." My dad was my very best friend and I fought with him a few days before he committed suicide. So "Pride will tear us both apart" lyrics related to me very well. So I could feel some painful loss and grief on this 'break-up' song. However, I found out later that Simon(DD) wrote this song for his friend who died, out of grief. In some way music can unfold the 'truth' behind the song timelessly. RED did this grief song the justice it deserves. It's the best cover so far.
Yes, the lyric is transcendent IMO. Relates to anyone in a bad place who is struggling to find a way back to an 'ordinary world.' So sorry about your dad.
I related to this song when my sister was trying to commit suicide. Thankfully it's all over now and she's okay. So sorry for your loss... My deepest condolences.
Montanee jo I too heard this song just a little over a year after my dad died. He had been sick for a while. The lyrics really described what I was feeling except that I wasn't ready to find the ordinary world yet. And the hauntingly beautiful and melancholy melody made me feel someone out there truly knew the ache in my heart. So sorry about your dad.
I’ve never fell in love with a band after linkin park but i have to ask myself after listening to this band “where have i been?” .. this has to be the most underrated band ever. Every song has given me goosebumps. Extraordinary. 🫡
+tres better arrangements (verse in particular), the tonal variations in Mike's voice and the filters applied, the strings and keys throughout, the way they blend the electronics in the chorus has a lot more impact and power... So many reasons this is a good version of this song and one of the better ones.
"Ordinary World" [Duran Duran cover] Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue thought I heard you talking softly I turned on the lights the TV and the radio but still I can't escape the ghost of you What is happening to me crazy some would say Where is the life that I recognize, gone away And I won't cry for yesterday there's an ordinary world somehow I have to find And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world I will learn to survive Passion or coincidence once prompted you to say pride will tear us both apart Well now pride's gone out the window cross the rooftops, runaway Left me in the vacuum of my heart What is happening to me crazy some will say where is my friend when I need you most gone away But I won't cry for yesterday there's an ordinary world somehow I have to find And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world I will learn to survive Papers in the roadside tell of suffering and grief Fear today forgot tomorrow beside the news of holy war and holy need Our's is just a little sorrowed talk, just blown away And I won't cry for yesterday there's an ordinary world somehow I have to find And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world I will learn to survive Every world is my world (I will learn to survive) Any world is my world (I will learn to survive) Any world is my world, every world is our world, every world
This song is amazing. To me this shows that you won't wait for anyone to come to you. And that you are going to see the world even if it means going it alone.
I often cringe when I find out that another band has covered a song that I hold dear. But just like Weezer's very close-to-the-vest cover of the wonderful classic by Toto, "Africa", I was very relieved to actually hear your cover of "Ordinary World". Too often, bands try to do to much to make a song their own and end up making a caricature. This is not one of those times. You guys stayed true to the original and, I felt, honored the original. This is genuinely one of the best covers I think I've ever heard. It's a lovely rendition of a beautiful song that rivals the original. Kudos.
Haven't listened to Red in a while, forgot how amazing there music is. One of the best covers I ever heard!!! Between his vocals and violins gives me chills.
(i'm a drummer, believer, and piano player...with more yesterdays than tomorrows...) My overly-emotional "bucket list" included reviving and playing "Ordinary World" on stage someday. That may never happen. RED has done this for me. I can enjoy it and share in the experience. No regrets.

I listen to it still...alot and recomend it for anyone trying to overcome whatever and grow to your potential. Thank you Red, for helping me and alot of others also. Love you guys!
I'm 50. Duran lifer. Red did a FANTASTIC job w this song! Never heard of em. Dont know them from Adam. They kept the essence of the song but modernised it. Absolutely beautiful. I'd give it a 10! N I like the guitar guy who actually looks like hes having fun! How refreshing! N the drummer is cute.
Feel very old today. I remember buying this album and listening to it on repeat for days at end during my first year at Varsity. That's almost 9 years ago!
Honestly I can’t believe I didn’t hear this sooner, Mike has such a beautiful voice. I can feel something from it, it’s arguably the best cover I’ve heard of anything but this happens to have special meaning for me. I love them for doing this, even if I hadn’t already.
To clarify for those who don't understand the concept of this video I believe it's a portrayal of how God has been and always will be the artist of what we call Earth. All the people who inhabit Earth are all a part of His creation or in this case... a painting.
I grew up listening to Red. Through oppression and depression, I heard a message through their music: you can be strong; you can be brave; through it all, you can be you. I am strong. Those who oppressed me and told me I couldn't be that don't know God's love. There's a verse that says where His spirit is, there is liberty. Listening to this again has shown me (once again) just how strong I really am. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and gives me peace.
I remember i was in a hotel, and i was on an old computer, and i found that this song was originally duran duran. I love your version!! Now its like this song resonated with me now. I thought my ex knew this song by duran duran! I felt his pain. Now i like/liked this song!! 😔
for nearly 20 years I thought Red's Ordinary World was the their original song, only have I recently learned that it's actually created by a band called Duran Duran, I was in shock. Because I really loved this piece of music and I happen to hear this music on the street, then I thought people were knowing 'Red'. but it was actually Duran Duran's version. I just felt like a huge hammer hit back of my head. I love both versions!
Good version - love this video - it's a harder song to sing than most people give Simon Le Bon credit for - and the lyrics are the best of their career Red have done it proud! IzzY World (Durannie)
This is the first song by RED that I've heard, back in 2010. It came on when I was working out to the Octane station. Such a beautiful version. It drastically improves the already good original version.
I still think this is the best cover version of the song. Thank you Red for making this possible for me in my life.
I didn't find this out till a few hours ago. I listened to the original and these both are great
I'd beg to differ, I like Hyde's (japanese musician). I like his rendition better.
I agree. I discovered this version on a TV show... exhilarating 😊
@@KhyrisEidanyou are a king for turning me on to Hyde’s version!!
Much as I love this band the best cover is from the video game The Evil Within 2

This song and "Come Undone"
Irony is it is Duran Duran's best song imo. Long after the heights of fame.
Hard to believe one of the bands at the centre of the 80’s new wave movement could make such a mature, deeply rich song with their comeback into the alternative scene in ‘93.
I can never get enough of this version!
I bet Duran Duran is proud of this cover!

Definitely one of my favorite covers. They did what you ought to with covering an already great song - and just made it more epic!
OMG! This was one of my favorite Duran Duran songs! RED does an excellent cover!!! 🎉
This song is all about the harmonies. You did well.
How did I miss this truly exceptional cover until just now?????????? Outstanding in very sense
You found it before I did. 🤣
Tell me about it! Lol
I just found it August 2024. This song is timeless. 😊 That's what matters.
This is the best cover of this song I've heard. Mike hit this one out of the park!
Troy Turner I agree. One of the best covers I've heard in awhile.
tres i happen to like it because of the different arrangement. Plus, Michael Barnes has more powerful vocals than Simon.
+tres better arrangements (verse in particular), the tonal variations in Mike's voice and the filters applied, the strings and keys throughout, the way they blend the electronics in the chorus has a lot more impact and power...
So many reasons this is a good version of this song and one of the better ones.
Chris Black Exactly Chris and they stayed true to the tone and emotion of the original song and the lyrics.
Troy Turner agreed. Staying true to the feel and altering just enough to not completely shift it is a lot harder than people realize.
"Ordinary World"
[Duran Duran cover]
Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue
thought I heard you talking softly
I turned on the lights the TV and the radio
but still I can't escape the ghost of you
What is happening to me crazy some would say
Where is the life that I recognize, gone away
And I won't cry for yesterday
there's an ordinary world somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Passion or coincidence once prompted you to say
pride will tear us both apart
Well now pride's gone out the window
cross the rooftops, runaway
Left me in the vacuum of my heart
What is happening to me crazy some will say
where is my friend when I need you most gone away
But I won't cry for yesterday there's an ordinary world somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Papers in the roadside tell of suffering and grief
Fear today forgot tomorrow beside the news of holy war and holy need
Our's is just a little sorrowed talk, just blown away
And I won't cry for yesterday there's an ordinary world somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world I will learn to survive
Every world is my world (I will learn to survive)
Any world is my world (I will learn to survive)
Any world is my world, every world is our world, every world
This song is amazing. To me this shows that you won't wait for anyone to come to you. And that you are going to see the world even if it means going it alone.
