It’s absolutely incredible how nice of a guy Brian is! Seemed gutted about the squat but understood he made a mistake forgetting about the clock, such a humble guy and great friend to Eddie too
Now that's what a good sportsman should be like.
Thor is possibly one of the worst sports I've ever seen. It's a shame because without his bad attitude he would be one of the greatest. But as it stands, I think history will just remember him as a sore looser.
I don't think he had much more in him, maybe a rep and a half.
@@chrishullrocks he's a top 10 Strongman of all time regardless of how he acts. He was literally unstoppable from 2018-2020 as long as he was healthy. You don't get that often in this modern era of Strongman. You're just projecting.
Brian is an absolute fucking Angel. Good sportsmanship, so glad he's the true champion over Thor. Way more titles, way more deserving.

The only "evidence" here is the fact that after his reps Thor didn't say anything. He knew he did a lot, he though it was enough to win whole competition. The moment he realised someone got better he started questioning it. And as people saying Eddie did as many he had to. With the form he had he could get way more if it was necessary for winning.
I think it was more Thors team who made it a massive issue

Brian after the squat "the rules are the rules and I knew that." That shows his integrity in the sport. What Thor and his team did when viking press was over was IMO despicable. AFTER Thor did his pressing in the event, he was fine with what he did. It was only after Eddie beat him in the event by 1 rep that his team and himself complained and were campaigning to get the disallowed reps back. Even if Thor got those what, 2 reps I think it was, or maybe 1, Eddie likely still was going to beat him in the event because Eddie himself in that event had more in him he just didn't need to do any more reps because he wins the event with what he did.

I’m not convinced Eddie could have done another press rep. He was seriously struggling to lockout on his last one with 8 seconds left.

I think the main problem at the time for him was his entourage of yes men. There was absolutely no need for him to have such a big team with him.

always annoyed me that people never mention in the arguments on who won the viking press that thor was given 3 bad reps. on top of eddie finishing with ten seconds to spare with at least 1 or 2 more in the tank. eddie got 15 thor got 10

The more I rewatch Eddie’s Viking Press, the more I’m convinced he had AT LEAST another couple of reps in him if he needed them, the 15th looked easy, rock solid shoulders and would’ve won WSM 2017 no matter how you see it! 💪

What a well done documentary thus far. The generalized and balanced perspective is great , and the footage is just incredible. Big shout out to Eddie Hall for making this free on his channel. As a film buff, this is great documentary film making and I’m glad everyone has access to it

I think another good part that was left out is the day before after the rules were explained on the Viking press and Thor was 1 on 1 with the ref. The ref immediately pointed out his technique was bad and he was double dipping and that he would absolutely get called for it. So not only was the rule explained, he physically saw and felt it the day before.

He wasn't strong enough not to double dip and beat Eddie in the Viking Press its as simple as that. Thor has made excuses as to why he was robbed, but alternately he's the athlete, and he's inherently responsible for his performance. It's s super low to claim cheating and badger the refs for his own selfish gain like he did too. He only did it after Eddie bested him. Thor knows what he did. Thor knows his cheating claims held no barring.

Basically, Thor did 15 repetitions; 3 out of 4 was going to be disallowed but it was allowed. Whilst only 1 was taken off. So, technically he got around 11; if all the reps he did bad was disqualified. Even Nick Best was telling him to do it properly.
Doesn't matter if he had 15, Eddie knew the goal to beat and had reps in the tank to push past it and win.
Nick wasn't telling him to do it properly, he was cheering him on.
Yeah the ease of the lockout of eddie's last rep makes it clear that he had more in the tank. I mean I like Thor but eddie was just better at this event.
Actually Colin Bryce told him that Thor should have had 9 but he gave him 14 because he could sense there was some confusion.
I think Eddie also had advantage of smaller height in this event.
Because the lever is better for Eddie than Thor.
But this is a technicality most often the advantage is the other way around.
All in all seems very fair game for Eddie.

Bill Kazmaier is awesome, one of the only ones man enough and kind enough to congratulate Eddie on beating everyone without feeling like it was challenging his own manhood.
Never really thought of it but seeing now and hearing Bryce say it, 2017 really was a strong final line up. Big Z, Shaw, Thor, Eddie, Kieliszkowski, Licis, Caron, Loz. Some big names there!
However, this year is also gonna be pretty good!

@bronchoped1 Do squit suits prevent the squits? Never doubt a fart again, wear a squit suit. I'm guessing the squit suit keeps the bum cheeks squeezed tight so it's harder to follow through when plagued with volatile gas which could escalate to shart level at any given moment.
Eddie's static strength is one of the greatest of all time I dont think many people would deny that

Sure, Eddie and Z are on the same level on overhead, but Eddie beat Z's Axle press and has 55 kilos on Z's deadlift. Eddie can move a barbell with the all-time best, despite not winning 4 WSM like Z did.

Jesus man the guy could barely holds his arms to his side. I don't blame him what so ever for not sticking around. Atleast he got to legitimately hold that gold over his head and say he was the best and he did it right. Thor bitched and moaned until he got it. I have respect for Thor's physical prowess but his attitude is crap along with the yes men around him. I hope Eddie flattens him.

@@TheBurningcage27 this competition had the most stacked lineup all time in the final. Eddie wasn't "given" anything. He won perhaps the most rigorous WSM of that whole decade.

@@joelpalsson1391 events were changed last moment. Literally days to go until comp day and entire events were scrapped and swapped with guess what, static events. And not only, but ones eddie had been specifically training on months leading into the wsm. The events WERENT on the card but he was training as if they were and then MAGICALLY those events went onto the lineup. The heights of events were lowered FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN WSM HISTORY. Rules like the double dip rule which was allowed in prior wsm were brought in, among more. These were the issues hafthor raised, along with brian shaw. The management specifically went out of their way to give eddie special treatment by tailoring things to suit his strengths in static events and his physiology. To win by such a narrow margin and with so many changes and discrepancies one must ask how much of those changes went to give hall the winning edge, and if so was that by purpose?
Clearly Hafthor was in the wrong here, you can see he was really happy with 14 and then when Eddie did 15 he all of a sudden got annoyed and started complaining
They are competitive, also at the time he had health issues such as his face. No wonder he didn’t do so well. And this was the last straw for him

This footage is great. The biggest failure of WSM is the lack of accessibility for the fans. Live coverage and not waiting 6 months for it to air plus all this behind the scenes would create so much more hype.
NGL- I wish they would make a documentary like this for every WSM. I would love to watch them all
Netflix does that for Formula 1 lol, it would be awesome if they did it for all the WSM training, behind the scenes and event stuff. Crazy feats of strength like what these guys do (different stuff than just…gym exercises) is so fun to watch. For anyone! I think it would definitely appeal to the masses since strongman isnt something you see often unless you go looking for it.
Would be brilliant to show in-between events so they can make it live- on TV or an live-stream

The best footage of this is when they show Eddie and Thor's Viking press side-by-side. Shame it's not in this documentary as it's undeniable who was the better athlete in this event (The Beast).
Man this lineup was so stacked! And watching everything that happens behind the scenes is so interesting. We are all focused on the rivalry that we don’t really mention how good Bryce is as a ref. He made the right call every single time and calls it how it is.
Also the fact he's willing to be so stern to these blokes who could just snap him in half, not saying any of them would, but they could.
This is really a treat to watch. Great to see so many perspectives and behind the scenes footage

we only saw a small portion of what happened. Many of the strongmen were trying to bully Colin into changing the event. Givin how much passion and emotion everyone there has, I think he handled it well..
@@willh1655 Exactly mate, youve gotta make a stand att some point. Otherwise if you give in and change one thing theyll keep asking for more and more alterations to be made. Where does it stop. The rules are the rules and they were all made fully aware of them.

Brians slow reps on the squat are always the most impressive of the event, to get that many at that speed
I remember watching this years ago when Eddie first uploaded it. Still surprised how immature Thor was acting afterwards. From the video you can clearly see Thor receiving multiple warnings to hold the press till a down command is given (and honestly some of those reps shouldn’t have counted because of that) and you can clearly see the double dipping on his last rep. Even though it was 5 years ago, it’s disappointing Thor never manned up and apologized to Eddie for his behavior, and to every one else for his unsportsmanship. Hope Eddie brings it to Thor on March 19!

Man, I love Brian Shaw so much. I hope he miraculously wins a 5th WSM title, but time is unbeaten and the young bucks are so good. Eddie & HB are blessed to have stolen gold out from under Brian a couple of times. Big Z & Brian are the best ever IMHO. God bless all these men as they hopefully live healthier as they age.

Think the events would have be his best and a couple of mistakes by others for Brian to get that 5 win. It could happen. I would be pleased for him. I am a Stoltman fan and would love to see Tom & Luke on the podium at WSM
The nail in Thor's coffin for me is him calling a referee's review on Brian's last deadlift rep WSM 2018
What was the result of the review? I genuinely don’t know.
@@lordvader6252 Brian's rep was allowed. It wasnt even close tbh. Only time i ve seen Brian on the edge of getting angry. Only time I've seen someone ask for a review aswell. Seemed like Thor was going to use everything he could to win in 2018. At that moment you could feel that he wanted the title and retire.
I love this it’s brilliant to see the behind the scenes of the competition they should do this every year.
Eddie hall will always be my favorite. Such drive and determination in his eyes when he is lifting. I have huge amounts of respect for this guy.
Eddy is just simple a BEAST. His athletic ability and will to always win will be the key to his victory in this fight. He has even said that he is willing to go to the darkest of places to improve himself, not only physically but mentally. Love you Eddy. Wish you the best.

Even if all four of Thor's improper reps were counted, 15 was all he had in him. Eddie clearly had a 16th in him if he needed it. Thor's arguing was pointless. Shame his team didn't have the balls to tell him he was wrong.
Super weird Thor's team saying "good boy" all the time. I wonder how different Thor might be with better people around him.
@Kanpindon im not so sure about a few more. A few in my mind meaning three. Based on how easily Eddie did the 15th rep, and the time he had left, I'm certain he could jave done one more rep for certain. There was no sign of a struggle with his 15th rep, no wobble at all, no lagging, no facial expression to suggest the 15th was any more difficult for him than the 14 before it. A 17th rep would likely have been more difficult. Would have been clear signs if struggle.
Whereas Thor's last 4 reps, he was struggling to lockout. They cannot bend their legs again after getting their knees locked out, its primarily a shoulder lift, bending knees again let's them use leg strength to do the lift, which is cheating. There was clear struggle for Thor to keep his knees locked out. Struggle to keep his torso rigid, struggle and wobble in his arms and shoulders.
Technique goes bad when strength fails. Thor's strength was failing him for his last 4 reps. After his failed or rejected rep, he didn't have it in him to try for another, he was done, out of steam.
Eddies face goes bright red when he's pushing his limit. Like with the 500kg deadlift. He wasn't at that stage yet on his 15th rep, he stopped there because he'd won, he had no reason to do another, that would just be wasting energy. When Thor stopped, he stopped because he couldn't do another. He crumpled.
Eddie had a smile on his face, his breathing was stable, he was clearly feeling good after 15, there was no shaky legs, torso, arms or shoulders, he had more in him.
@Kanpindon It's just based on the way the weight moved and his stamina. Eddie looked in control and every rep moved explosively with no grinding, so he still had room to grind out a few more reps.

That line up makes Eddie's title that year all the more impressive. Thank god he did win it because he literally pushed his body beyond its limits.
Shaw was the rawest of the three on the squat. He was tired but didn't over exert himself. Brian could have done more than 15 squats, he was simply attempting to one up Eddie for the lead.

The Moment i realised that Eddie is a different kind of animal was when he was doing the squats. So much weight at this temperature and he made it look easy. Incredible every time…

Man Kaz just seems to know things. He's the only one who predicted Eddie at the beginning. Not only that but in everything I've seen him in he just seems to have the most understanding and insights

Funny that thor didn't care about the viking press until Eddie beat him because he thought he won then he questioned the rep that wasn't given he lost end of story
I remember watching this event when it happened. I was on the edge of my chair cheering in my living room. Every event was super intense. Seeing the stuff from the refs point of view just hurts my heart. I couldn't believe Thor would act like that. I really respect the men who compete in these. They're the best at what they do. The top of the top. To have such a strong competitor that's so well respected among everyone throw a tantrum like that and try and take away a win from someone who really gave his all and earned it... It's just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Eddie, my heart aches for you brother. Really. This whole debacle was just a sad situation that could have been avoided with a few less "yes men" and a little better coaching. Good luck in the fight. I won't be able to see it live as I just don't have the money. I do good if I get a meal every two days, but I'm sure i'll see it posted somewhere after it's over. Looking forward to it :D

Watching this makes me even more proud of Tom Stoltman. Great for Eddie. Epic for Tom. Strongest brothers that ever lived.
The double dipping is subtle but.... Like an Olympic lift, they throw the weight up and catch it with locked out arms, then straighten the legs because they cant shoulder press the weight.
Thors legs are clearly not locked out while he has finished or almost finished the press, eddies legs are locked and the lift is 100% fully completed with his shoulders.
Of course they weren't, he's an absolute fucking cry baby. Always one asshole like him in all sports. Thought he was a good bloke, he's a disgrace for putting that black cloud over Eddies hard work.

Nick has shown that he has more heart than anyone, and that's saying something because they all have it. And to me, Brian is the heart and soul of modern Strongman

Eddie was at a disadvantage going into the squat, if he was later in the line up he could of pulled off more with the squat just like he did with the Viking press. He was the 2017 WSM by far, no doubts.
2017 what a year for strongman! In that field Eddie finished on top after a rough start in the first event. Incredible achievement. Eddie pushed his body beyond its limits in order to take it to guys more genetically gifted - shows you how important the mind is. Eddie’s mindset was #1. It’s a shame Thor couldn’t let it go. There’s no argument about the double dipping.

That 15 rep sqaut with 320 in that speed is insane. In most strength gyms if someone does like 15 reps with like 200kg is considered an absolute monster.

2017 was absolutely Eddie's year, no matter how you look at it, he is in the right. he deserved to win, he performed the best way he's ever done, he dominated multiple challenges, and the viking press was just a cherry on top. It's sad that this whole situation happened and arguments around it too, I hope they will come back to normal after the fight, or at least find strength not to be enemies anymore. Eddie clearly feels betrayed by his old friend Thor, that's the main fuel for him in this fight, once it's over, there are no more reasons for bad blood. I hope Thor also finds strength to admit his mistake. they both are incredible athletes, surely the strongest specimens in the world.
Eddie will definitely win, we wish him that.

I love Eddie, but from a boxing standpoint Thor is better trained and has better technique + endurance. Eddie’s technique isn’t the best, hence the torn bicep, which will also make winning far harder. Thor should win, however anything can happen

I've been watching Eddie for a long time now and at times ( and sometimes still do ) I hope Thor outboxes him.
But rewatching this footage I understand him more and more I watch it.
Thor was ( sadly ) a sore loser , he was sick and tired of coming in 2nd , 3rd.. so at the cost of his integrity he tried to talk his way to some extra pts.

I agree , but u must understand hathor was young that time, now his an father and grew up alot in the past 5 years, Very humble. Also even if Eddie won 2017 (barely) doesn't matter because hathor destroyed 2018 and few tears later absolutely abliterrated the 500kg deadlift into 501kg while eddie was constantly braging about it hathor didn't care much and focused more on his new born son.. that shows u who the real man is.. even if u know u the best and prove it to the world u will never truly be the best until u can humble yourself for breaking world records.

He has zero dignity left and I believe it's just eaten at him, and tbh I think if he really does see his mistake, he's going to give eddy the fight to make uo for it. You can really feel when they are talking about the result and Thor say's "this hurts too much". Bloke even needed a translater for some of it.
Sure it looks like Eddie could have got 2 more but it's pretty crushing for any athlete to "no jump, no throw, false start or no lift"

2017 was a hell of a WSM and this only reiterates that further. What an epic series this is.
Can we all agree that considering these are literally the strongest men this earth has ever produced and the majority of them (way more than normal) are just the nicest most caring people you could ever meet. They constantly help each other and genuinely care about each other whilst at the same time trying to kill each other (competitively).
I watched this on tv when it was on, thor definitely double dipped and dropped the bar too early but was given those lifts, I'm 100% sure you could have easily lifted 18 or 20 but you only needed the 15.
Thor had other events to do after that, never seen you as nothing other than amazingbin strong man, massive respect Eddie....one of the UK's best to do it 💪🇬🇧💪
