  • Part 1 restoring my Kyosho Optima Mid Custom Special. In this first part I split the top deck and the chassis from the driveline and soak in the tub (the chassis - not me). I also drain and clean the shocks and reassemble with fresh oil and adjustment collars (both left over from my Optima Mid 60th Worlds Edition kit). Reuse and recycle where possible!

As Wade mentioned it’s probably the hex that’s worn, especially if it’s been spinning over the axle. It’s a tapered fit, and will require the wheel to be fitted and tightened to push the hex onto the taper. Good luck with the resto. 👍 Enjoying your vids.

The hexes have no pin, it's just press fit when tightening the wheel nut, making the alu hex "grab" onto the axle. I think the re-release uses different ones, but I'd need to check

So that rear hex spinning on the outdrive is probably due to the hex being worn itself rather than the outdrive - that said it could still tighten up when everything goes back together clean - good luck you’ve got someone’s mess on your hands but it’s definitely a car worth saving!!!

nice work, would be interesting to see the new screws, and how the diffs were, how bad etc, I recently bought new gear diffs for a car, prefer over ball diffs for some reason, I worry about how tight or un-tight is adjusted a ball diff
