You know, even with the movie's obvious flaws and probably over the top creative liberties of the actual story. I do believe this is one of the most authentic representation of motorsports in the film industry.
I think Rush might be more accurate historically. I have not seen anybody debunk any of the parts of the movie, and from what I know about the season, it seems pretty accurate to me. At least more accurate than the movie filming about Le Mans at the Hungaroring

it's a penalty, yes. but more likely a drivethrough or a stop and go penalty.
i think youre forgetting to factor in the deliberate ram. ive looked this up online before answering here.

@@LeoAnst no rulebook. it's just very difficult to prove that it is deliberate.
Only incideent I actively remember a driver getting disqualified and banned for the season was Timo Scheider in DTM, and even that needed a live broadcasted radio from the team to push a driver out of the race.
IMSA on the other hand had plenty of incidents towards the end where you could claim a deliberate wreck (see 2021 Petit Le Mans for example) where nobody was even punished.
A situation like this is really really really difficult to prove a deliberate wreck.

Agreed!!! Revocation of license and a massive fine... Then a punch to face in the pits. That was dirty.
It is called punting. Except in real racing not in the movies it is done by under braking into the back of the car in front. That lifts their rear end up, unsettles their car and gives you a little extra brake to then slow down for the corner. But that unsettling bump knocks them off their brake line and spins them. When done right it looks like an accident and you ran out of brake. In the movie he accelerated into his back just before the corner making it very obvious. This is not to be confused with bump drafting. Where you pull up behind a slower car in front of you but you don't let off or brake and you "bump" into them on a straight where it is advantageous for both. This was real racing and while these things are shtty to do, probably will not get you flagged or banned.
Now, if you race in the Porsche Club events, they take any contact very seriously and any contact will get you banned for the next event. But those are not "Pro" events and drivers are doctors and lawyers driving in competitive events for fun and bragging and if they crash they are crashing their own car and that may keep them from racing in the future so that is why contact is taken so seriously.

@@mactails If I'm not wrong, the dracting is not allowed in other competitions such as GT4 for example.

A movie about Motorsport clearly made by people who know jack shit about Motorsport.
If my race engineer talked that much I’d be turning into Fernando Alonso, attitude and all, in no time. Who in their right mind, even from an audience entertainment perspective, thought it was a good idea to have him give the main character a constant play-by-play? Did they really think so lowly of their audience that they can’t just watch what’s happening and figure it out themselves?
Based on a lot of reactions in the comments? Yes they knew their audience perfectly. They didn't make this movie for motorsports enthusiasts who understand motorsport. They made it for people who don't understand motorsport in an effort to get them interested in it. While being a person who was not happy with a lot of little details in this movie ie. knowing the track they're shooting on but seeing its being called 3 or 4 different tracks throughout the film, the weird Jan somehow being the first one in history who figured out the concept of taking different lines to overtake people ahead or seeing cars that weren't even built during the time this took place. I'd be foolish not to agree this movie did a phenomenal job at explaining a sport that is extremely complicated, nuanced, and deep to a group of people that by and large think racing is dudes driving casually around in circles. As a whole the movie was a net positive and I'm just grateful that projects like this are helping to grow the community across the world. Especially in an environment where motorsport is being vilified as the world goes more green. Though the individuals who think they're Max Verstappen in every sim game nowadays could probably be done without xD
