But i wouldn't worry too much about it being pricy since the Octo from Ghost busters costed just 800c
It had the best plot! Lost brother, fighting corruption and the establishment. It emphasized the importance of family, and pride, while pointing out systemic issues we deal with everyday (money controlling everything despite appearances) And the rules were drive fast don’t get hit lol I will say they never explicitly focus on the exact rules of the races, but in actual cup races the only gadget he used were jacks, the rest of his arsenal was only deployed in the underground street race part where their escape bubbles were presumably disabled too.

Personally not my kind of thing and I am just taking the word of third parties on this one. As for Western attempts to do it. And...uhm...I can't remember others -.-; Though, a lot more bad than good....

The apparent lack of physics, the impossible speed he suddenly gains to overtake the other cars, the flips and stunts, the crashes and explosions; it as if a kid was playing with his Hot Wheels, and was racing his favorite car. Like its a child's racing fantasy brought to life, and it makes for something wholly cinematic.
Every time my Hot Wheels roll down the track, they're not toys. It's a scene from the movie and they're the actors, and that's what tremendous world-building can accomplish in the minds of kids and adults alike. Few toy lines are lucky enough to have a media tie-in like Hot Wheels had with Speed Racer and Acceleracers
From the synced started at 1:42, how the song slows at 2:23 when X speaks, the faint choir from the movie at 2:54, the transition at 3:03 and how the music stops as Speed catches his breath...it's just perfect

I mean....if there's anything to take away from this movie, it's the one line X says to Speed "Racing hasn't changed and it never will. The only thing that matters is if we let racing change us." No truer words have been said in this movie haha. But overall the movie was fun to watch
I still think to this day this movie is among the greats. Great production value, plot, characters, and most of all the style. It is still unfortunate that it hasn't gotten the praise it deserves. The reason for this is probably due the time it was released. It was released between two summer release monster hits. All in all, this movie holds a dear place in my heart.

Speed racer was so ahead of its time, it really makes me sad this movie doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. The Wachowskis have said before they would love to do another speed racer and in a perfect world they’d get the chance and maybe it’d even see success as anime has become more mainstream and something as over the top as speed racer could actually be appreciated. To bad I highly doubt any studio will green light the project because of speed racers poor success. This type of movie really deserves a second chance as In my eyes this movie especially the ending will forever be one of the greatest half hour of film ever put to screen.
Watching this movie in theaters was a trip. Super underappreciated movie. People say that live action anime/cartoon adaptations don't work and use only One Piece now as an example of one that does, but Speed Racer is one that is live action but keeps the cartoon feeling. It is just plain fun.

Speed racer was so ahead of its time, it really makes me sad this movie doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. The Wachowskis have said before they would love to do another speed racer and in a perfect world they’d get the chance and maybe it’d even see success as anime has become more mainstream and something as over the top as speed racer could actually be appreciated. To bad I highly doubt any studio will green light the project because of speed racers poor success. This type of movie really deserves a second chance as In my eyes this movie especially the ending will forever be one of the greatest half hour of film ever put to screen.

Everybody talking about Speed Racer, but barely anyone talking that the soundtrack comes from one for the most underrated racing games ever.
Never seen the movie before, only clicked because I love Jak X, and that was the coolest shit I’ve seen in like 15 years.

Watching this movie in theaters was a trip. Super underappreciated movie. People say that live action anime/cartoon adaptations don't work and use only One Piece now as an example of one that does, but Speed Racer is one that is live action but keeps the cartoon feeling. It is just plain fun.
