Because of Drive to Survive, my wife has become a fan of F1. I've watched F1 for 30 years and had no one to enjoy it with. This show brought together my two loves, F1 and my wife.
I really love this series however they do need to reduce over dramatizing things, using wrong team radios and also making things really big in a way if you know what I mean but it is really cool to watch.

It wasn't fake. It showed the behind the scenes and obviously when someone's leaving you have to push them to the wayside and Carlos wanted to show Ferrari they made the right desicion. They overdid it a bit but there was a rivalry for sure

My relative, who didnt know anything about f1 apart from the fact that Michael was the G.O.A.T thought that Lando and Carlos hated each other and that Seb was a bad driver. While i agree with the idea behind DTS, i certainly disagree with its implementation. And its not just irrelevant details, for some enthusiasts, those minor details could mean a whole lot. Just look at some of the examples given under 1 of my comments on this video only. I mean using the same sound for every engine? Even if you take the Styrian GP radio example, the team radio makes it seem like Leclerc is a bad guy by using his "What the Hell" or using Sebs 2019 Brazillian GP radio. The show puts drivers in an extremely positive light or an extremely negative one. And this is without me looking at the fact that there were literal upshift sounds at 300kmph. At what point do you confront the producers about so many abstract details. This sport is based on risk, risk that is not artificial. Another example i have in mind is what 5 continuous shots of Romains crash. I mean the guy almost lost his life ffs. We all know what happened, were 5 replays really necessary. I saw the crash on live TV and i was genuinely traumatized. Now imagine me being a new f1 fan (which im not) watching the same replay over and over again. Imagine being Romain, wanting to watch a series on the sport he loves, and having to go through that moment again. At the end of the day, its not enthusiasm, its more of wanting what's best for the sport and for me, that's a less dramatic DTS.

I mean, they literally showed footage of them throwing banter at each other, that's not a sign of people who dislike each other. The Leclerc and Vettel radio did kinda bother me at first, but I brushed it off immediately, because at least it's somewhat related to the original context, though I guess the "what the hell" by Leclerc should've just been omitted. Anyway, I enjoyed the series even as a fan, despite the obviously exaggerated drama and some inaccurate details, and I hope it brings in more new fans.
Some of the editing is appalling here. Too many cuts, and the viewer loses track of what is happening. You might think you're making it look "dynamic" but it's just confusing if you cut away from a good shot of the incident.

I understand the anger towards the dramatisation. What you must remember is that this is a TV Show, they have to try and capture the viewer's attention to create storylines, it's designed to bring in more people who don't normally watch F1. To do that you need to use a little bit of 'poetic license'. I agree that at times it goes a little too far, the Grosjean crash especially but the rivalry between Norris and Sainz for example that's trying to create interesting episodes because we must not forget that first a foremost this an online tv show, not a season review.

I've been watching F1 for over 45 years now, and I have seen so many scary things over the years and deaths. But the crash from Grosjean still gives me tears to this day just watching it. So glad he was ok, but man was this scary.

Yes and no. The biggest fear there is that his monocoque broke in two. There are parts of the chassis that are designed to break easily to dissipate the shock. The monocoque is a closed survival cell. it is supposed to remain intact to safeguard the driver. His broke in two. its not supposed to do that.
