Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen appeared before the House Homeland Security Committee to discuss the President Trump administration immigration policy on immigrant children, family separation, and detaining children. Congresswoman Rep Nanette Barragan grilled Nielsen on asylym seekers being turned away at the border, even showing video proof to bust Nielsen's lies. Other congresspeople brought up border security, the zero tolerance policy, illegal immigration, migrant children and more. Immigration reform is top of mind for both Congress and the White House, but their approaches to border patrol, ICE, and DHS couldn't be more different.

Now, that being said she can’t be at every border checkpoint 24/7 watching if every agent applies the directives correctly. Of courses some agents won’t follow everything’s down to the tee, they are human after all. So, yes she was unaware that at ONE check point they didn’t follow the rules before being shown the video. Immediate action should be taking against the people concern and procedures to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

@@enricomahoney6617 I'd agree if this incident was an outlier, a rare situation but from the video, I'm getting the inference that this is happening all over and that this is the S.O.P. and not the actions of a couple of agents in one checkpoint. But for argument's sake let's say it is what you said, then her response should have been along the lines of, "I'm appalled that this happened, this is not what we ordered our agents to do, we will investigate and if we find out that they have been breaking the law we will take the necessary steps. I will make sure that all checkpoints understand the law and make sure asylum seekers are processed correctly under our laws etc etc" or something to that effect. She didn't though, she didn't answer the question posed to her directly and didn't say that her agents did anything wrong or what they did countered current policy.

My father asked for asylum about a year ago, he was admitted to be a U.S citizen and then he was arrested and sent to jail for 3 months, they said that if he didn't leave, that they would move him even further up north. Eventually he left that asylum not as an American, but he left through those same gates that they were keeping everyone in. My mother is a U.S citizen, I am a U. S citizen, and yet they won't allow him in because he is Mexican?! It has been more than a year since I've seen my father, if this woman is fighting for people that want to get asylum, I hope she knows what she is doing, because this is unfair what they have done to my family.

I do live in the border, and people this is true! I’m a Mexican national but thankfully I can afford a visa to come back and forth between Mx and the US to visit my family and shopping. But there a lot of people waiting on the Mexican side cause the officers don’t let them even get closer to american soil. I’m always afraid on commenting cause they can take away my visa. It’s sad cause US citizens don’t ever say anything like this congress-woman. I just know the officers are victims too but they’re just following instructions. :(

We need a federal law that disqualifies people from being law enforcement if they try this unlawful and cowardly insistence that they not be recorded. At the very least they should be required to have CEUs and violations should require remedial law enforcement training with an independently administered gateway test.
