Ice report Little falls, Alexandria and Brainerd area ….Open water on big lakes with 3-5 inches of ice on back
bays….most small lakes seem to have a minimum of 4 inches of solid ice with some lakes closer to 6-8 inch of good ice

I could watch that all day. That is awesome, I haven't been ice fishing in so long I miss it alot. Many things have happened in my life in the past 20 yrs and lost most of my stuff in a ugly divorce. Now just getting things back to what I use to have slowly. I'm retired so it takes longer but never stop.

Those cold water fish taste way better than summer caught fish. I never got to ice fish alot,just too busy with hunting,trapping & other sport & work activities. So by spring I was just dieing for the ice to break & jam floods to clear. Always wanted to ice fish more? But I did do plenty of ice cold water fishing & catching & experience the difference.

When I sight fish like that I always bring my small, one handed net. Especially for trout through the ice.

I used to live in Northern Minnesota for over 30 years. Do you do any Pike spearing through the ice?
How did you know that this 2.5’ area would produce? What do you look for?
They're pike! Shallow water is the best for gators (northern). I've set tip-ups in less than 2' of water while everyone else set up in the deep hole. I was the only one to catch fish.
Idk if it's legal In your state but I watched a video of someone using some beavers tail fat for bait . He'd cut them up into some small chunk that look like some other kinda bait
