*"I should have been grateful for the things I had rather than longing for the things I did not have."* This is the only quote you need to find happiness.
Well, as a rule of thumb, but sometimes you really don't have that much to work with. Learning to appreciate the smallest of things definitely is key though.
Lessons from a 42 years old: not important are status, loads of money, a big house and a car. Important are: 1) taking care of your body and mind: your health is your wealth! 2) your loved ones: spending time with them is precious and priceless 3) enjoying not only big things but also the little things in life like a nice cup of coffee, a well prepared nutritious meal or a song on the radio (or Spotify:) 4) doing stuff for others or in the public interest in general 5) being gratefull and content for what you do have, it usually could be a lot worse 6) inner peace and personal growth
I should have focused on all of your points in 20s, but I wasted it by self loathing and worrying about the future and regretting my past mistakes! Since this few months now I have decided to change my mindset for good and got rid of any negative feelings I have ! I am not going back to what I was b4 and now going to change myself for better
Summary: Communication is key. Happiness comes from the inside. There is no replacement for hard work. Don't let your ego sabotage your relationships. True growth takes time.

The big lesson of my 20s was finding how little money I needed to live. I had a toxic boss, quit a good-paying job, and changed industries, starting from the bottom again at 27. It meant cutting back drastically, and it was a shock to me how much crap I was okay without. In about 3 years my salary doubled, I started saving, and had $100k saved up 3 years later. I still cringe at the money wasted in my early 20s making the same amount.
E Brown I am starting from the bottom again because all my money is stolen and I am broke ! Started to focus on minimalism ! Starting again can be scary but I am ready to face any challenge and enjoy the process!
I'm half-way through my 20s and one of the most important things I've learned is to stay true to myself. Society, parents, friends will all tell you what's best for you, but it's up to YOU to figure out what you actually care about and how you want to grow.
Beautiful said. Often times we get wrapped up in what others think is best for us that we fail to see it for ourselves. I’m a believer of having a mind of your own that will work out for you even after failure.

1. Effective communication will solve most of your problems. Be a proactive communications. Don’t avoid important conversations because they make you uncomfortable. 2. Happiness comes from within. Not physical possessions or followers or admiration from others. Notice the things you already have instead of focusing on what you don’t. Look into minimalism. (It really is a good documentary) 3. No substitute for hard work. You still need to do the work to improve. 4. Don’t let your ego ruin your relationships. Own up to your mistakes. Don’t avoid conflict. Learn how to control your emotions. Take a moment to cool down before getting heated up. Let people know why you’re hurt. 5. True growth takes time. You think there’s a shortcut to wealth and fame, but it takes time before you’re able to get there. Invest in your skills. Make many mistakes because you have the time to learn from them. Very good advice.
Another important lesson I've learned in my 20s is that you should figure out what you truly want, and go after it ─ for yourself! Don't go down a life path that others tell you to take, as that will almost always lead to unhappiness. Find out what YOU want.
Also don’t let other people talk you out of things .... number one road block to success in the 20’s is listening to people who are going to talk you out of what you need to do to be successful because they are Afraid to see you fail. Struggling is part of the path. Take risks.
My biggest lesson I learned in my 20s was to stop caring about what others think and that has helped me reach my goals in my career, business, and financial goals!!! Thanks for this video as well.

Hey Matt. I turned 20 on June 20th. I discovered and immediately subscribed to your channel the same day. The first video I watched that day was ‘6 things I wish I knew in my twenties.’ And here you are, with a recap on the same. Man, I can’t thank you much for the inspiration and sense of direction you’ve inculcated into me, especially as I start this new, interesting phase of life. You’ve been an Angel. Once again, thanks a bunch! Love from Kenya!!🇰🇪
Having found my passion in my early 20's and actually making it my career, Thank you Matt for making me realize that i need to be wayyy more for grateful for that!
I’m turning 21 in October. There is a lot of insecurity in the air, but I know that 1) you have one life 2) you can do wutever u want with it 3) it’s about the journey, not the destination. I wish u all success and above all happiness 🙏
"I was spending so much time on the pursuit of happiness that I was completely neglecting all the things I already had that could've been making me happy." As someone in their late 20's, and especially with the current state of the world, I can't tell you how much this resonates with me.
"Don't let your ego sabotage your relationship" I wish this video was release way earlier.. I had to learn this the hard way, and cost me the love of my life to walk away... Thank you for this Matt!
At 26 I'm trying to take all this in now so I can grow. I feel like I've been mostly in the same spot for years now, so I gotta take in as much advice as I can
"True growth takes time". Thank you for saying that specifically. I've been talking with a lot of people who are struggling with mental health, and TIME is never talked about. There is this way of thinking that everything can be fixed with just one week of vacation. Or that you can change in just a little month... But growth, in any form whatsoever, takes time. Thank you for your amazing videos
Great talk! Making mistakes is truly how we learn and grow. We create hypotheses about the world and how it works, and test them. When we’re growing, most of the hypotheses we form fail, but we learn from the outcome and create new ones, slowly refining our understanding of the world and our place in it. Only through trial and error can we learn and accommodate new knowledge.
I remember watching minimalism the documentary right when I found it on Netflix, and instantly my life was changed. I’m so glad you took the chance and put in the work to make such an amazing documentary that has helped change my life and so many others.

What I love about your videos is that in every shot, in every editing you see your love for filmmaking and your passion for detail. Sometimes I only watch your videos for the visual aspects. And somehow you even make the sponsoring part exciting to watch.
I just turned 21 and this video really helped me! Thank you so much for this, I’ve been struggling to find my passions and how to really get things going, and I absolutely agree communication is pivotal to all of our experiences. You’re absolutely right about how happiness comes from within
Matt dropping all the great advice as usual! I love it, you’re so inspiring and have really helped me change to a different path in my life, I’ve just turned 20 and this is super interesting to watch ☺️ Thanks 😁 x
I completely agree with your take on failure. The 20's should be the time for us to try new things, take risks and learn with them. Failure should be normalized, because it's essential for the growth.
Summary: 1 Effective communication will solve most of your problems 2 Happiness comes from within 3 There is no substitute for hardwork 4. Don't let your ego sabotage your relationships 5. True growth takes time
Throughout this quarantine, I have been thinking about random stuff, putting pressure on myself and overthinking a lot of things up to the point that I've been suffering depression. I've been slacking all the time, not eating properly, not getting enough sleep while facing my phone all day. But I'm thankful for my friends and family who keeps supporting and believing in me and keeping me sane but the problem is, I have already lost faith in myself. I was on the verge of giving up until I watched this video. It gave me realizations about life and a boost to start again. It made me think of the people who are have been supportive despite of me being a disappointment. Now, I won't let them down. I will start to work hard on myself and prioritize on what should be done. I am very much grateful that I stumbled upon this video. You just made a lost 20-year-old student regain his hopes back up and for that, thank you.
youve got time, dont beat yourself up because you dont think youre moving fast enough, thats one thing ive learnt and am still learning. If you continue to shift your focus to positive things every day, and slowly make positive changes over the years, youll be absolutely fine.
I love the consultancy of colour and the whole look and feel of the videos and love that this will hopefully never change too. The finish is perfect every time and the content is always great too
thank you so much for this, i turn 21 the day before thanksgiving this year and i'm still struggling to adjust to adulthood. this is not only inspiring and raw, it gave me a sense of hope and belief that we (as in me) will all find our way… even if that isn't in our twenties.
You've been giving me inspiration for more than one year and sometimes a video feels like an embrace. I started question and doubting about everuthing I know to get better and treat me as I deserve. Thanks for that, Matt. You're unique in UA-cam.
These videos literally give me hope and life. As a 21 year old struggling with life (yes I know I’m still young) I stress about paying my rent, my phone, my car etc. And I feel like I’m not getting anywhere in life but watching you’re videos always give me that relief that everything will be okay at the end of the day. That I got this and I can make it in life. That I can be successful with time. I really appreciate you dude and thanks for everything you do to help us with our daily struggles.
*I was spending so much time on the pursuit of happiness that I was completely neglecting all the things that I already had that could have been making me happy* Ooft. Straight to the point. Thank you for this, Matt! I'm turning 23 tomorrow and in the last few years, I've been learning these lessons myself -- especially about effective communication. Great video, great wisdom
watching this video in the morning on my birthday. exactly 22 today and i'll try to remember and practice all matt's advices in this video for the years to come. thanks for motivating me!
Think of it like an RPG.... until they leave their home town (the known) their story is just backstory... then the adventure begins when they start to take risks and explore the unknown wider world... so just start taking steps... or go deep and find what you really want out of life if you can figure it out on paper first... but it is definitely not likely to come rushing into your living room on you... GO FOR IT! and do your best =)
I'm 18 and I've learned some of these lessons through my experience too. Thank you Matt for inspiring me to look forward to learning more as I get older😁
A lot of what you said at the end there is what I've worked so hard to understand in the past couple years (for reference, I'm currently 25). I look back on what I've done in my younger years, some things pretty recent, and cringe at myself for acting a certain way. I must constantly remind myself that cringing at the things you did before means you grew as a person since then and to not beat myself up for the person I was then who didn't know any better.
i literally had a pb sandwich practically every morning in my first semester of college and every single morning in my second semester lmao. idk how i never got tired of it
My co-worker's doctor literally prescribed two tablespoons of PB every hour to his pregnant wife and it saved their underweight baby. Literally like doubled in weight during the last 3 weeks or something.
The one important thing I've learned is to importance of sharing experiences, projects, work and many other stuff. Actually, this is the sole reason why I've started my yt channel in a hope that I could pursue my passion every single day while entertaining/educating others :)
I think we're subbed to a lot of the same channels. I always see you in the comments. Keep up the good work with your channel, man! I actually started a channel myself for the same reasons as you
For the communication thing, i am now 23 and i am still learning with every mistake that i need to talk and communicate more to avoid misunderstandings, losing people i care about and make more stronger relationships. Very valid point.
Do you see yourself as an introverted person? If yes maybe you could make a video about how it affects your life in general and what you have learned about it so far.
Needed this today. Had a phonecall with a client about their invoice...we hadn't set a budget, and they also had no idea that making five minute video would take longer than 3 hours. I'm glad Im not the only one who gets these things wrong, but lesson very much learnt.
This is so dope Matt. So much to learn from your twenties. I made a similar video on the lessons I'm learning in my 20s. Thanks for the inspiration as always
Hardest lesson I have to learn: "we are more disappointed of our expectations of others than their action" -Anna Jonna Shits hard because 1. We have to name our emotions 2. We have to be accountable of our emotions 3. we have to be accountable of our own actions. Im 25 years old, divorced from 5 years marriage. I was so broken hearted when he came home one night and asked for divorce. I was angry at him because he's throwing all of our efforts away when in realityyyyyyy, I was more hurt of what we could have been. We could have family together, grow old together with our grandkids running around souped up in candy while our kids try to figure out how parenting works. It sucks, it helped me to learn how to let go. It was not his fault that he realized he had to take care of himself and that journey meant going through it on his own. That's human, what he and I was feeling was human. In the end, it was my expectation that failed me, not him.
At the start of my 20's and all i can say is thank you. I am in a spot right now where i needed to hear all of what you said. Thank you for bringing quality in my life and helping me to do that myself.
Matt you had the swoop hair? I would never have guessed! 🤣 That aside, I often tell people that your 20s are like extended teen years. For one, your brain is still developing until about the midway point. I don't consider someone under 25 an adult yet (and neither does the British NHS). Additionally, it's like a decade of constant imposter syndrome and the time when you're so obsessed with what anyone else thinks you don't notice you're caught up. 30 was a breath of fresh air. I always tell everyone to stop stressing and just wait it out and do your best until then. I'm still struggling, life isn't easy, but I'll be 35 this year and I'm pretty comfortable with who I am and I've never felt better~
Ugh. Thanks Matt. 26 years old (soon to be 27) and just beginning my nursing school journey after years of bouncing back and forth trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. This is it for me :-) This was encouraging! Off to study and pace myself I go! Keep up the good work!
1. Effective communication will solve most of your problems. 2. Happiness comes from within. 3. There's no substitute for hard work. 4. Don't let your ego sabotage your relationships. 5. True growth takes time.
Every morning, arround 5 AM, I make my self a vegie cup of coffee and turn on Matt's video to start my day, so I can think during the day of the tasks I should be focusing on and I wont fall down of the path
Finančný Minimalizmus I am trying to fix my sleeping schedule,i used to stay up all night and then sleep all day long but it's been a week since i changed my sleeping habits ,now i go to bed at 11:30/12 PM and wake up at 8 AM hoping it would make me feel more energetic and productive i still feel like there's something missing like... i don't even know i think i am just depressed.
In my household we are going through a very difficult phase, I never thought this virus could disrupt our life at this level. This video taught me a couple lessons about communication and self awareness. Thank you Matt. I appreciate it.
In my mid 20's I was fighting for my life (lupus) but at the same time I was giving my very best in photography, programming and design... I think I'm a bit better now at all those 3 things but still, fighting for my life cause things come and go (fortunately I had some years of peace and health) Wish you all a good journey living, learning and being passionate about what you do every day
its quality, but thats not at all why he stands out. His film making and way of delivering topics makes him a genius. Its an emotional rollercoaster with literally every sentence he says. Pay attention to this when he delivers a sentence. Literally just one sentence
You are the mentor I've been searching for so long. THANK YOU MATT, for putting all this effort into this video that will not only remind me to put in the work but also will remind me that everyone stumbles along the way. You are the real MVP.
still not in my twenties, but this is very helpful. I needed this. Thanks Matt! You don't know how much your videos have inspired me and motioned me to change my life. Keep doing the good work!
I can agree with the personal growth. I am 21 (almost 22) and I feel like I grew more in these few years than I have from age 0-19. To be fair, from 0-14 I obviously was a baby/ child/ early teenager and I am fine with that. Live your childhood. But lookikg at myself from 15-19 I wish I would have been a lot more eager to learn than I was. My personal growth started at like 18 just after graduating highschool and living more on my own. But the interest to learn new skills and such wasn't there before.
Man your videos and approach are so simple yet so true. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do better through your "mistakes". I really appreciate you Matt. Stay safe.

Why is no one talking about how Matt ten years ago looks like Ryan from the Office?
So pretty
So pretty and a little less of weird. I love it.
Yeah!!!! Someone said it.
Omg I can't unsee it.
I was just about to comment the same thing
Growth can keep happening. My most transformative years are now in my 60s, and your vlog has been part of my journey over the last 2 years, thankyou

What I love about your videos is that in every shot, in every editing you see your love for filmmaking and your passion for detail. Sometimes I only watch your videos for the visual aspects.
And somehow you even make the sponsoring part exciting to watch.
So true Matt. When you prioritize yourself and when realize how little everything else matters, the more growth you will see.
Agree - love his videos!
I completely agree with your take on failure. The 20's should be the time for us to try new things, take risks and learn with them. Failure should be normalized, because it's essential for the growth.
You inspire me in literally everything I do , my studies , my habit forming , my growth and my channel so thank you 🙏🏿
"failure is the price you pay for trying anything" ~ this video is the best thing
Summary:
1 Effective communication will solve most of your problems
2 Happiness comes from within
3 There is no substitute for hardwork
4. Don't let your ego sabotage your relationships
You just made a lost 20-year-old student regain his hopes back up and for that, thank you.
watching this at my 20's and trying really hard to not procrastinate in my duties....
Delete your video games! I just deleted valorant today. get cracking
youve got time, dont beat yourself up because you dont think youre moving fast enough, thats one thing ive learnt and am still learning. If you continue to shift your focus to positive things every day, and slowly make positive changes over the years, youll be absolutely fine.
I just share this video with 24 and 26 yo niece and nephew so clear path to be mindful about what make us happy 😊 Thanks for your videos
This guy seriously changed my life.
I love the consultancy of colour and the whole look and feel of the videos and love that this will hopefully never change too. The finish is perfect every time and the content is always great too
"True growth takes time" - This.
thank you so much for this, i turn 21 the day before thanksgiving this year and i'm still struggling to adjust to adulthood. this is not only inspiring and raw, it gave me a sense of hope and belief that we (as in me) will all find our way… even if that isn't in our twenties.
My biggest lesson? You can’t control other people’s reactions, but you can control your reaction. He who angers you controls you.
You've been giving me inspiration for more than one year and sometimes a video feels like an embrace. I started question and doubting about everuthing I know to get better and treat me as I deserve. Thanks for that, Matt. You're unique in UA-cam.
you inspire me everyday Matt
True growth takes time and the communication are HUGE. People often undervalue these two thoughts.
I Was just having an existential crisis due to stress during 20s I saw this. Matt is watching me
watching this video in the morning on my birthday. exactly 22 today and i'll try to remember and practice all matt's advices in this video for the years to come. thanks for motivating me!
I'm 23 now, and yet I feel like my "adventure" is yet to start
It’s up to you to make it happen, man. Don’t be a bystander of your own life and end up letting it pass you by!
In my twenties. Complete focus is on improving life experiences & staying grateful. 🙂✌️
One thing that I truly believe is that Real growth is at the end of your comfort zone.
I’m 23 and I needed to see this. Thank you. You’re like the smart and responsible big brother we all wanted but don’t deserve. Thank you Matt!
It's crazy how in my teens people thought I was crazy for being a minimalist before minimalist was a thing nowadays lol.
Same dude
@@vak22 Yeah I should of gotten a copyright on minimalism lol
@@vak22 I tried but I couldn't😄
SO INSPIRING. No shortcut for hard work. Thank you Matt.
Us:
Matt: “I ate PB sandwiches for 30 Days, here is what I found...”
i literally had a pb sandwich practically every morning in my first semester of college and every single morning in my second semester lmao. idk how i never got tired of it
My co-worker's doctor literally prescribed two tablespoons of PB every hour to his pregnant wife and it saved their underweight baby. Literally like doubled in weight during the last 3 weeks or something.
Daniel Powers 😹😹😹
I am one of those people who really needed to hear this right now. So thank you, Matt.
I started my day watching this and I feel better. I am surprised how you manage to bring much value to each video you upload. Thanks, Matt.
Hardest lesson I have to learn: "we are more disappointed of our expectations of others than their action"
-Anna Jonna
Shits hard because 1.
He talks his heart out.....that's special thing!
I'm 27 now... the 20s are no joke lol
At the start of my 20's and all i can say is thank you. I am in a spot right now where i needed to hear all of what you said. Thank you for bringing quality in my life and helping me to do that myself.
Matt you had the swoop hair? I would never have guessed! 🤣
That aside, I often tell people that your 20s are like extended teen years.
Man i cant believe all of your videos are just free to consume! Thank you matt! This has so much value!
Every morning, arround 5 AM, I make my self a vegie cup of coffee and turn on Matt's video to start my day, so I can think during the day of the tasks I should be focusing on and I wont fall down of the path
very nice said my friend :)
Bro how can you do that , i wake up feeling like i am a zombie ,no motivation ,energy or will to even make my own bed.
Kompir Gaming when do you go to bed or how long do you sleep my friend?
I think I'm a bit better now at all those 3 things but still, fighting for my life cause things come and go (fortunately I had some years of peace and health)
Wish you all a good journey living, learning and being passionate about what you do every day
I am glad you are feeling better now Rui. Stay strong!
@@poopbear66 I'm actually in a middle of another Lupus crisis but I'm doing my best. Thank you :)
Your videos are always a blessing to me! Thanks for coming back brother!
Matt gives quality advice. The end.
its quality, but thats not at all why he stands out.
30s are going to be the best.
It’s like your adult life is a balance of
youth/naïveté transitioning to aged/wisdom
30’s are in that sweet spot.
Do you have any advice for someone turning 30?
I'll get back to you on that one.
60 is good too.

still not in my twenties, but this is very helpful.
Be happy with what you’ve got while in pursuit of what you want. Great video man!
Not in my 20's yet but I certainly hope that I will learn a lot in the future
Man your videos and approach are so simple yet so true. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do better through your "mistakes". I really appreciate you Matt. Stay safe.
