  • Here it is, how to make money with plants in your living room. Learn how to propagate, grow, and sell plants for cash. It's like having your own money printing press right in your own home and you can hit the print button any time you need some extra cash. This is an excellent home based business that anyone can start on a shoestring. Selling plants from home is simple, cheap to get started, and fun. If you love plants, especially houseplants, and you have fun propagating them, then this is the home based business for you and you should start rooting cuttings to create a "backyard nursery" for yourself. This business is no different than urban farming, you're just doing it with houseplants and landscape plants. There's one big secret. Chase the value you'll provide, not the money you'll get. If you do that, the money will come.

    I had a large thornless blackberry in my back yard for years. A skunk moved in under it when the plant was about three foot around. I never had a problem with him. He only came out at night and kept the bugs in check. 20 years later and 10 feet across. We still live in peace.

      I had the same thing happen in kentucky with blackberry bushes. The only trouble was it got a little scarry when the horses came up trying to nudge their noses into the bucket and didn't want to go away. Thankfully they never made enough a bother to upset the skunk.

      In Pennsylvania we see growers sell by the roadsides, farmers markets, flea markets, road side signs by their house "tomatoe plants, bell pepper plants, cucumber plants", just my opinion, if you can sell your plants, fruit or flowers at a yard sale, I would go for it! Maybe if you visit a farmers market and ask, they would know, (or greenhouse?) By the videos I've seen so far, he's mentioned using heirloom plants and looking up if a particular one has a patent (roses video), so that says something if you make it your "buisness"... good luck in your endeavors! ❤-John's wife

The end of this year I stop taking orders for plastic and often with a timeline attached. I will be propagating plants. I have started to. For me then it will be hobbies that fill my heart. Plants , shop creations , from wood mostly. Some camping and fishing as well. I love to start plants and see them in the landscape. I have a lot of plants in my yard I can propagate. I kept their plant tags to be able to identify them. I have lived at this home for 32 years. I really like your passion for plants.🙂

    I’ve been saying for years that I shouldn’t be giving my plants away...I should be selling them! Heck, I do all the work planting, weeding, watering, and feeding them to keep them thriving. Then when they need thinning, who is out there digging in the hot sun??? ME! That’s who. And who benefits from all that digging and bagging? All my friends, neighbors, and total strangers. This last spring alone I bet I gave away 100 Iris plants, 300 or more Lambs Ear plants, and about 15 bags full of daylilies!!! And that’s just a few plants I gave away. I figure I gave away more than $3000 worth of plants just since spring.

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  3 роки тому +2

      Haha, what a wonderful philanthropist you turned out to be, lol. I'm kidding, but seriously, you could be making a little side income. Even if you gave them away cheap it sounds like you could put an easy grand in your pocket. That's a nice little vacation. Don't undervalue all of your hard work and time. Also, I've found that giving things away causes the recipient to undervalue what you gave them. In their mind, it suddenly becomes worth what they paid for it, lol. I once gave a very beautiful rhododendron away to a good friend. It was a good size one that was in full bloom and gorgeous. They saw it and fell in love and I said, go ahead and take it, I know how much you love it. Well, long story short, they loved it so much that they let it die very quickly. I find that when someone pays for them, they value them much more since they are vested in it. Good luck Beth!

      @bethreaves403 3 роки тому

      @@MikeKincaid79, I do think you are right about how many people undervalue freebies. If that had been my rhododendron I would have been just sick to my stomach knowing I’d sent it to it’s death with that careless friend. I am one of those plant people who cannot let a living thing die. If anything is salvageable, no matter what shape it’s in when I get ahold of it, I’ll nurse it back from the brink of death. People at my work will bring me their dying plants and if at all possible I’ll save it. Then they take it home and usually over or under water it all over again and let it die anyway!!! What I should do is take the poor plant home with me and just tell the bad plant parent that I am sorry, but your plant baby didn’t make it. And then keep the plant for myself!!!

    I stumbled upon this video, via UA-cam's auto-play feature, & as I listened, I thought it was a brand New video, (considering current economics & inflation, etc. /2022), though now I see you were perhaps a bit 'ahead of your time' when creating this video. ~ Great Job!!! ~
    One thing you might want to be aware of, is that there are many 'disabled people', of various ages, surviving on Social Security Income, (='SSI', & not to be compared with SSDI, or with Social Security Retirement Income). The 2022 standard maximum for disabled individuals /SSI is $841., (whereas $1200.+ is closer to the income other types of Social Security recipients receive, depending upon if they're disabled or of retirement age). In which case, your helpful information and encouragement can potentially be more valuable than you even realize. (Of course it's important to understand that 'disabled people' may have serious physical+ limitations, &/or high pain levels, which may make it difficult or impossible to do many tasks which others take for granted). I have no doubt that many people would benefit if you were to create another similar updated video, for those who don't happen to stumble upon this one.

    Hey mike, I love and truly enjoy these videos. As a young 22 year old trying to figure out what I want to do with my life after graduating college with a degree I realized I don’t want to use. I’ve got one thing figured out for sure that I love growing plants and fungi. They bring me a joy nothing else does. As a young person without property, how can I eventually get to the point of where you’re at, or the point of purchasing a property and opening a nursery etc???
    All love
    -cam

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  3 роки тому +7

      Hey Cameron, I can really appreciate where you're at. I was just there 20 years ago but it seems like yesterday. Forget the degree. If it helps you get a job or move forward toward your goal then great but don't hold onto it so tight that you miss the opportunities right in front of you. Many people who have degrees don't end up doing what they went to school for anyway. Life is way too short, do what excites you and motivates you. My Dad always told me to forget the money and do what you love. When you get good at it the money will come. Each day, your life begins right now, and you can choose to do or be whatever you want. You live in a special time, in a land that is overflowing with opportunity. It's not perfect but keep your eyes focused on the 1/2 full cup. My advice is to first, get your finances in order. Get some kind of a consistent income source flowing, no matter how big or small. You're young and it's good to work. You need to be out around others right now, moving, thinking, making connections, etc. Work on building credit, not getting into debt, but building credit. There are ways to do this without any money at all. When I was your age, I walked into a bank and told them I have no credit but I want to build it. I want to take a $3000 loan out and put it all in a CD. They let me do it and I made payments on that loan while the CD grew in value. I paid it off early and then was able to take the money out of the CD and it was mine. I basically bought my own money (not junk or liabilities) and built credit while I did it. This really jump started my credit building. Save, save, save! Delay gratification! Be different than 90% of the people out there and actually save your money. Learn to cook your own food, mow your own lawn, fix your own appliances, and essentially become self reliant. You'll save a ton of money. Some people call me cheap. I'm not cheap at all. I just recently bought my wife a 2019 Toyota 4runner with cash. I'm willing to spend a lot of money on quality items that will serve a purpose, but I'm not willing to nickel and dime myself to death on a daily basis. Adopt that mindset. As much as people hate to talk about it, money is an important part life. You need to master it while you're young. Read all you can about it and prepare yourself. Be patient. It takes time to achieve your goals. Our society demands instant gratification and it's not helping anyone. Attention span is about 7 seconds in this society (as evidenced by how fast the scenes change on a television show, lol). I've had this rhododendron dream for 15 years now. I still have it and I still keep slowly plucking away at it. I will achieve it, in fact, it's already been achieved in the future. All I have to do is wake up and hold that goal in my mind and keep choosing it. Just this morning I had a comment here from a lady that said, "It never works for me". My response was, "It has worked for you many times........in the future. You just haven't gotten there yet. Don't stop now or you'll change that course and never experience the joy that is already a certainty!" The one motivational piece of advice I can give in this regard is very near and dear to my heart and has inspired me to no end over the past 10 or so years. It was written by Neil Donald Walsh, "Yet here is a secret of all masters.......Keep choosing the same thing." Every morning, wake up and choose your goal, don't let your mind waver. You need to be constantly immersed with your goal. At your age, you need to be listening to motivational speakers like Zig Zigglar, Earl Nightingale, Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, etc. All that being said, if you want that property and you want that dream, don't let anything stop you, go get it. But maybe wait for a year or 2 until the market crashes first, lol. In the meanwhile, be preparing yourself in all the ways I mentioned above. I have a 3 part plan for success that I started creating when I was young and it has worked wonders for me over the years. I've never shared it with anyone. Maybe it's time to start a series of videos on all this. I wish you the best of luck and an excited for what you'll do to turn the world on its head. Now get out there an make it happen, Cam!

    A lot of the people do porch pick up. You have to go to them. If I was going to do this, I would have to do that..

      That's getting more common too and you can easily specify that in your ad. Many people have no problem coming to your home if you're willing to do that.

    Hi Mike, big fan here. I've stuffed 8 thick fig cuttings in a 1 gallon pot to maximize space. I have over 200 pots (200x8=1600 cuttings to sell). When can I transplant each cutting into individual pots and how can I minimize transplant shock?

    • @MikeKincaid79
      @MikeKincaid79  3 роки тому

      I generally like to separate cuttings like this during the winter while they're dormant. If you need to go faster then you can do it now but it will disturb the tender roots a little. Shouldn't be a problem for figs though. For added insurance, wait to do it in the spring so they can immediately get outside and continue growing as the weather warms. Sounds like a ton of figs, good luck!

    Mike, thanks for changing my life.
    Ive been planning on doing this and propagating redwoods like crazy for 2 years and collecting baby cedars and dwarf alberta spruce as many as i can find.
    I just had no idea about the sales part.
    I had ideas etc but im an artist and a grower NOT a businessman. But once you mentioned value for cash it all fell into place.
    Thank u for making it so sublimely clear.
    If you are ever on the east coast drop me a line and stop by to see my nursery.

    I'm truely inspired. Thank you so much much for this. I've got rasberry seedlings shooting up in the grass, I may start with those. AND yes I did watch your vid on that, how to prise them out carefully, which is what lead me to this video. I moved from London uk to Plymouth uk last year and the garden is full of plants I can do this with.
