    Hi Diy Duke I love the power rack and everything you added to it, you could also add a pulley to the floor and attach an extension cable with a carabiner to the existing cable, so you can work biceps too :)

      And also it can be used as a rowing machine that way, I've seen a couple ideas on youtube, but I'm pretty sure you're gonna do it better :)

    +Jack Pascoe yes you can take it apart since screws were used. Then in reassembly just direct the screws in slightly different areas so they are going into new wood.

    You can build a proper power rack cable by installing a 1" pipe vertical from the rear bottom base to the top and then use 2" pipe that slides into the 1" pipe , use 7 pieces of 2" pipe and two 4 way connectors, the three 2" pipes can be inserted outside of the 1" pipe connected with the 4 way connectors and the other four 2" pipes connected to the sides so they can accept a weight , you can accommodate the pipe width for the weight you're using to make sure the weights and the spring collars fit.

    I use to workout at an old school gym. At the time it was one of very few gyms in town. It was known for mostly Bodybuilders and sports training. The local Pro wrestlers workout there as well. Most all of the equipment was constructed of wood. Designed by the gym owner. It was rumored that he was the forefather/ inventor of some of the fitness equipment we use today. Such as the bench press, incline/ decline bench press. Lat pull down. plus a few others. Unfortunately he did not get patens on any of the pieces of equipment. The gym opened up in the mid 1940s, changed ownership in the late 70s and closed. around 1986. The gym was located in Indianapolis Indiana. Seeing home made gym equipment bring back many good memories.

    you could make a resistance band attachment, 1 end held in the ground (or the rack) and the other end held in this platform.
    this would provide accommodating resistance, and sort of lock he weight in a path
    also would be very cheap

    Hey duke I know this video is a few years old but I’m about to start this project and I was wondering if you could tell or show how to add a pulley on the bottom as well so I can use it high or low. I hope you see this and can help me out! Thanks

    • @diyduke
      @diyduke  5 років тому +1

      Yeah definitely you could add a pulley you'd want to anchor it good .

    • @andrewmeans49
      @andrewmeans49 5 років тому +1

      DIY Duke
      Thanks for the response!
      Would you just put it on the bottom perhaps and add a cable attachment to the original pulley system ?

  • @jabacoco

    Some time ago I read somewhere that a man made a DIY pulley system using an E-Z Bar and 2 spring hooks that stood still because of the curvature of the bar, and to stabilize and stop the pendulum motion he simply put 3 broom sticks weighted on one side holding the bar, 2 in the behind the bar and one in front. Looked simple and effective, since when he didnt need the pulley he simply disattached the bar.

    If you want to stop the weights from hitting the bottom 4X4 you add a piece of 4X4 where the pulley is, or something alone those lines. It may not be the prettiest, but it will be the most practical. And it's not like the weights will cause that much leverage on that short piece of 4X4.
