    I currently own 3 of this body style Mopar minivans. There are 2 areas that will seep antifreeze and not be readily noticeable. The radiator itself will develop seepage in the seams of the radiator on the drivers ( left ) side on the top. Also the Y or T connector going to the heater core will develop pinhole leaks as it ages because it's cheap plastic. Always replace the connector with a metal aftermarket one to avoid future issues. Both of these issues are hard to pin down until they get REALLY SEVERE. The antifreeze just evaporates in the hot engine compartment and won't seem to be leaking. If you are slowly losing antifreeze, check these two items first. All of my vans needed both the heater connector and radiator replaced. PS-- All of my vans are well over 200000 miles and one is approaching 400000 with only a rebuilt transmission. Take good care of these vans and they are extremely reliable and last a long time.

    Hello Russ , I just ran into your videos I just got a 2003 dodge grand caravan off of someone , I know the power steering is definitely and issue , but when I drove it maybe 5 miles it seemed like it was overheating and started slightly smoking a couple of people are trying to assure me it might just be the coolant which I will try Today, but the big silvermetal part that looks lik a cover for something like the engine or some if you know what I'm talking about it below would be hot as heck .. I was hoping to get some advice .

    • @RussShawTV
      @RussShawTV  Рік тому +1

      Make sure the power steering fluid is topped off and not leaking.
      Always good to flush the cooling system. But make sure there’s no leaks. If it’s overheating and it was full of coolant, odds are it’s leaking somewhere.
      Never drive your drive your caravan or any car if it starts overheating. Pull it ASAP as you could blow a head gasket or destroy your engine.
      Do you have the oil pan under there and the transmission pan on the left. Are they leaking? Or do you see coolant coming out from that area?
      If there’s a coolant leak, it’s usually always a hose or the radiator I’ve found. Hope that helps and good luck. 👍

      @@RussShawTV I’m just now getting back around to reply and when I went to get it looked at it was basically exactly what you were saying , the power steering would leak a lot & hit the exhaust that’s what was causing the smoke and everytime I tried putting engine oil in it leaked straight to the ground I’m grateful that you commented thank you so much even if it was not overheating you gave me an idea

    2 questions? We have a dodge caravan 2012 just got it in April and light engine has been on something about coils, but notice ac won't ever turn off! Always turns back on then sometimes back AC won't work, and finally yesterday hubby notice a leak and may be why is over heating any suggestions please and thank you sir

    • @RussShawTV
      @RussShawTV  3 роки тому +1

      It could be a number of things. How many miles are on it? Your AC is always by design on most modern cars today.
      So I guess my question would be is the AC always blowing cold through your heater vents? That’s a problem 🤔 The AC is used to keep your windows from fogging up by design.
      Sounds like it’s got some glitchy computer issues. Sounds like the TIPM Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM).
      Without seeing your vehicle that I’m going with that as my best guess. Best check out my friend J.T. at Online Mechanic Tips. He’s a certified Chrysler tech and knows a lot more about computers and electronics stuff that I do.
      Good luck to you. It may be as “simple” as changing out that power module.

    What size socket for the T-stat?

    • @RussShawTV
      @RussShawTV  4 роки тому

      I forget man. My advice is that it is best to have a set of both SAE and METRIC. SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers and the sockets are typically marked in fractions of an inch, i.e., 1/2″, 3/8″, 13/16″. Metric tools are measured in millimeters and come in sizes such as 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, etc.
      keep trying until you find the right one. You got this Blair! :)

      That 2016 Dodge Caravan is a much different vehicle than these.
      You have a 3.6 penastar engine w/ computer control diagnostics.
      You’re going to need a tech to make the computer and the engine work with one another. I would be surprised if it’s only the fans that are acting up.
      Odds are you need to take it to the dealership, unfortunately.

    • @RussShawTV
      @RussShawTV  3 роки тому

      Steven Hornberger What year is your caravan? How close the core is to the steering column varies year-to-year.
      In my particular 05 I don’t see any cotter pin. Steering column needs to come out. I don’t know but this is what I was told by my friends at the Chrysler dealership. I also realize these guys tend to do everything by the book.
      But as a guy who’s been doing car repair videos for some years. Videos on tough jobs are particularly way more profitable.
      If it’s THAT easy there would be a video on it, and so far there isn’t.
