- The Last Roman Campaign Pack is an epic expansion for Total War: ATTILA - Including a huge new campaign map, this expansion also features a unique new “Roman Expedition” faction as one of 5 playable factions. This gives players the chance to experience the story of Belisarius, one of the last great Roman generals, who was tasked with retaking the former Western Roman Empire by the Emperor Justinian.
Players can chose to follow the Emperor’s orders and liberate territory in his name, or break from his rule in defiant rebellion and attempt to crown themselves as a new Emperor of Rome.
The Last Roman is Available to pre-order now: store.steampowered.com/app/343...
Video type: In-Game Cinematic

Belisarius is massively underated, while being one of the greatest generals of all time.
He is a testament to loyalty and honor above all. He was loyal to Justinian even when he fell out of favor at court. A great man indeed.
Khalid ibn Al Walid is lucky to not meet Belisarius in battle
@@justinianthegreat1444 Belisarius is overrated.

He was brilliant commanding a small force, who knows how he would have fought with 50k?
We never found out he never got more than 25k or so
@@Eliza-yd7fi overrated ? Belisarius Doesnt Even Get Highly Recognized By People as The Greatest Of All Time Like Scipio And Julius Caesar how The Hell Is Belisarius Overrated ?
They make it look like Justinian was someone who may have looked down upon Belisarius but Justinian was actually born a peasant into a peasant family
***** Doesn't mean Justinian didn't look down on people. And at that time in their lives, Justinian trusted Belisarius/loved him, but knew that there were whispers in his ears.
Mason Carroll In the end Belisarius was quite loyal, and it was Justinian who never supported him enough to secure what he conquered for him... the leyend of him being a blind beggar always saddens me :c
Yes, the man was loyal to a fault. Had the opportunity to become defacto emperor of the west but took the opportunity to capture Lombard leaders. Great general...my all time fave.
Cesar Adrian Rodriguez Benavides The story of him being a blind beggar is generally considered not true. Much of the personal history we have of Justinian and Belisarius comes from Procopius who hated both of them so his accounts can't really be trusted.
As I said, it is mostly a legend, but one that magnifies the tragedy that was the whole reclamation campaign, as ultimately, it was nothing more but a brief chapter in history, as everything was lost rather quickly due to the lack of resources to keep those lands in check.
Belisaurus-Rex, the last dinosaur
***** His actual name was Belisarius though.

Total War: ATTILA- The Last DLC
obereen Unlikely. There's several more planned, although the exact nature of them is currently unknown. Could be unit/faction packs, could be full campaigns like this one.
Robert Faber I thought they said the Last Roman was the last DLC for Attila...
Mason Carroll It would take some balls, but there's at least one more storyline they could do with the loss of most of the east and the rise of Islam and the Thema system.
Mason Carroll No, in fact they quite explicitly said, on the TW forums, that it wasn't the last one. Also, there's still several Steam DB entries that are unreleased, and while that's not 100% accurate proof that there will be more DLC, it definitely points in that direction.

He already was in the city.He was there since he was put under court martial for major defeat at Callinicum and other lost battles prior that.He was found not guilty.Small number of soldiers came with Belisarius to the city but it is not recorded in any preserved source if any of them were from legionary units.NIKA" literarily means "you will win".
@The Martial Lord of Loyalty I feel like a better way to put it is sports riots turned into an outright revolution.
So glad you decided to do belisarius, hopefully you guys can do a Rise of Islam dlc with Heraclius war with Persia and everything.
Poilu Yeah, they'd never do that. They would get death threats from the people who are stupid enough to think that Muslims would send them death threats. :p
No, in all seriousness, and leaving aside the opinions of the ignorant, that would be a great idea, though I'd hope it would be more something along the lines of the Imperator Augustus campaign for Rome II; a map with the same scope as the grand campaign. There was a lot going on in the early 7th century, so it would be a shame to just focus on the Middle East.
Poilu Me too Poilu...my favorite General of all time.
Kerry Holt They probably could, yes, if they really wanted to, though I'm not seeing quite how that would be related to a Rise of Islam DLC, other than in the words "rise of".
Kerry Holt Yeah, probably. Until we manage to eradicate poverty, inequality and totalitarianism from the world, one could argue we all are.
Robert Faber If you knew history, you'd know that Heraclius (byzantine emperor) fought a devastating war with Persia. At first the byzantines were getting crushed, but with intrigue and cleverness, Heraclius was able to best the Persians. However, the war was so devastating that the Arabs (now all Islamist) destroyed the Persian Empire and nearly the byzantines.
They could have said anything when listing his achievements and it still would have been an awesome trailer. Cleaned the emperor's toilet, won the high school track meet, and take over his father's street vendor... And show him doing all of those.
Octavian had Agrippa, Justinian had Belisarius, Licoln had Grant!
Hey look, It's Caesar!
Best total war trailer i've seen so far, fit's the era.
Whoa, you really know your stuff, don't you?
We should also see "upgraded, not ad-hoc" units for ALL playable factions. (especially heavy cavalry) For these were the major/rising players at this time. In fact, the Ostrogoths were so strong they fought Belisarius, & eventually the eunuch commander Narses to a what amounts to a draw after 14 yrs of siege warfare.
byzantine empire the last roman empire
error at 1'16': "you repressed the riots in Nika" - they are referred to as "Nika riots", which happened in Constantinople, "Nika" was the word that the rioters were chanting, not the place where they happened, those riots where a pretty big deal for the historical setting of this game, how did they get this wrong?
thank you! this was bugging me for years!
They fixed it in game.
Yup it made my ears bleed and I don't quite understand it either, although many of the TW cinematics have dialogue that, if not usually plain wrong, is often weird/cringey/misleading. My suspicion is that the history guys at CA pass a rough script onto the cinematics team, those are completely separate and take some "creative licenses". Under that theory, they might have been handed something like "You won the battle of Dara, you suppressed the Nika riots" and someone who didn't know better made added a preposition to the second one for aesthetic purposes and it was just never caught/ignored.
GUYS I HAVE DISCOVERED SOMETHING!
Roman has 5 letters, right? now look at the storepage of attila total war. As you can see there were 4 DLC's released before. So this is the 5th DLC going to be released. And wich sentence do you get when you change roman with DLC?

Cool to see a little bit more history on the dlc from the trailer. But it was far from the best cinematic. Did anybody else feel uncomfortable when the guy rubbed the back of his hand on Belisarius's shirt?
All in all, it would probably be in CA's interest to do documentary style films on this channel again.
Sun Jetzu I'm not sure if it was still prominent during this time period, but the Romans were very much open to sexual relations between both sexes. So that could explain why the man did that.
Sun Jetzu Mm, not really. The awkward expressions were more uncomfortable than a creepy old guy rubbing his hand all over Belisarius. Seems like a typical thing creepy old guys would do to him.
Claudio Quintas Yeah, that's what I thought. Emperors could do what they want but Roman society was always very conservative and repressive.
Claudio Quintas I believe by the 1st century CE same sex relations between Roman citizens became more common, however, it may still have been taboo "on paper". In the time frame of the game, I'm not sure what their views were especially with the rise and dominance of Christianity.
Claudio Quintas That's actually an interesting and informative post... but I wasn't entirely wrong, you didn't need to say "ergh lol no, you couldn't be more incorrect." That just comes off as sardonic, especially as you elaborated that homosexual relations did exist, but they were rarely between people who'd consider each other of equal standing. So you didn't have to say that, as you end citing some truth to what I said. And nor did I even state that I was 100% sure on the topic. By opening with you opened with, it kind of devalues the message of your post, as it makes me doubt your credibility if you're making a claim that what I'm saying holds no truth... only to show that it does. I assumed that the Romans adopted similar practices to Greek pederasty. And in the context of this video, the Eastern Roman Empire are being depicted, not the Western Empire. Now, that's way past the time of Classical Greece. And I'm not too knowledgeable on late-Roman history. But come on, dude... you're better than that.
If anyone can tell me the name of the song that plays when it goes over Belisarius past deeds (Bodyguard, Battle of Dara, Nika Riots) that would be much appreciated.
The fact that no one seems to know this bothers me lol. The chords remind me of Jeff van Dyke's style, but I don't think he worked on this game. Maybe it's a track of his they had rights to use but hadn't in previous games?
@@AudioMongrel basically 7 years on and I still periodically come back to this trailer just for the music and the tone it brings. Such a good tune.

Seriously. I went from being apathetic towards Warhammer, to despising it after it took over Total War.
@@timesnewlogan2032 it aint its fault the historical games that are released are either terrible or abandoned like britannia and three kingdoms.
If the Visigoths had been either, Catholic (Trinitarian back then) or, on the Romans good-side like the Franks, it may have been they who conquered Gaul. Because they were very strong at this time. And, they were only stopped by a Frankish-Burgundian-Roman Confederation brought together to stop them from Southern Gaul.

Just have no idea why Justinian and Belisarius both looked pissed at each other when the racing game finished...
History might have been better if Belisarius had been more selfish. There are some historians who contend that the Gothic War actually started the Dark Ages in Central Europe and the Balkans. If he had tried to usurp the Roman-Gothic state after Justinian’s meddling with Narses in Belisarius’s campaign, then a great deal of Roman infrastructure might have been spared. A unified Western Roman Empire may have been better equipped to deal with the Lombards, and also send reinforcements to assist the ailing East in the face of Sassanid and Arab invasions.
Imagine the unity that a dynasty under Belisarius would inspire, a man who was a lowly general and outnumbered twice and even three times over in his campaigns. It would be a hard state to break, I would think.
so does this mean racing is confirmed in the DLC?

So well done 👍
If only the game had cutscenes and victory cutscenes like this, like what rome 2 sort of had. Something with a bit of variety and at least some plot. wouldn't even be med
***** But it has? More than Rome 2 ever did.
To me every faction sort of had the same intro cutscene. And there wasnt much of a victory cutscene besides a few short ones that came along the way to it. but thats just my opn
***** In Rome 2 cutscenes were stripped to bones. No intro faction video. No additional cutscenes expect when Rome was conquered and victory videos were so basic as it gets. No narration, no emotion. They were 100 times better in older TW games. I don't understand why did they remove all these very basic videos from campaign.

Its interesting how in every video that involves Rome there is a guy that looks like Caesar in it. (2:04)
Andrew Wasden I think that was the point in this trailer, it felt to me like some "shadow of ceasar" spoke to Belisarius in his own cognitive self, when he tell him he could "take it all to himself (just like I did)", Ceasar beeing a famous general/consul himself.
Or maybe it just Procopius stirring things up just for the sake of it.

Sarog What has already been said - Justin was Justinian's biological uncle, but also his adoptive father: Augustus was Caesar's biological grand-nephew, but also his adopted son in his will. Adoptions were common in the Roman world.
