    And yet anther great inspiration by Gavin Hoey. One suggestion to save wear and team on your assistant. Attach your flash to some sort of mobile device (my personal favorite is a jogging stroller) so your assistant doesn't have to hold the bloody thing up should make using flash MUCH easier. I would happily send a pic of my setup using a jogging stroller I purchased at a thrift store (best $10 dollars I've ever spent)

    Always an enjoyable video from you, thanks! Jess was great, very pretty and animated. I do wish you had included at least some TTL shots. You mentioned inconsistent results. Is that mostly a problem in causing more work during editing? I’d love a video on this topic from you. Feel free to ask Jess to help.

    • @GavinHoey
      @GavinHoey 3 роки тому +1

      Hi Edward. TTL flash can be inconsistent but so can asking someone to walk an exact distance from your subject. When your subject is moving I think it's best to stick with what you know and trust and that's manual flash for me 😉

      Hi Christian. Hiring a model is money well spent but this technique would work just as well without a model. I can imagine it working with kids for a fun family shoot for example. The flash bit is optional of course 😉

    Great video as usual! Now, don't shoot me, but have you ever tried the same style of shots by using 4K video and extracting the stills after? If you know that you won't want the video itself, shooting at 1/1000th sec is fine, and at 25fps you will have dozens more potential hits, so the perfect one may be easier to get. A continuous light should be able to give similar amount of fill since you only needed 1/128th power. How about giving that a try and see how much worse the extracted still are? Or are they very similar?

      Look into mounting a Ninja V monitor on your camera using a monitor screen cold shoe mount in your flash shoe. And then running an HDMI cable from your camera into the recording monitor. Then you can record in the Ninja V whatever shows on your camera EVF because that's what is sent out through the HDMI cable.

    • @GavinHoey
      @GavinHoey 3 роки тому +1

      Hi José. A flashmeter would be VERY accurate... until we started walking! Then the distance and angle is likely to shift around a lot, so if 100% accuracy is your aim, this isn't the way to go 😉

    So, how do you direct a portrait subject to do this type of thing, since they aren't always experienced models? You covered the settings really well, but almost no information on the posing.

    • @GavinHoey
      @GavinHoey 3 роки тому +1

      Hi Alan. There is no posing, that's kinds the point. To Jess I just said, walk backwards, spin around, have fun and don't fall over. For someone else it might be a that they walk slower, don't smile and have a serious, moody look. The results will still be unposed and candid, which is the look I was aiming for.
