If at all possible... would love to hear your thoughts on the chair yoga apps that keep popping up as ads for me that promise men over 50 can looks like they're in their 20s again.
@@HeadCannonPrime Glad to read this. 3 weeks for me. Loving it so far. I didn’t even understand systemic fatigue before and it’s so much better for avoiding that than other programs I’ve done. 👍
What I believe most hollywood muscleguys do, is be on gear and work out for about 90 minutes tops per day like most bodybuilders. But they can't say they're on gear, so they have to pretend to be on some impossible to maintain 6 hour/day superman regime doing these outlandish excersizes. Oh, and eat chicken and broccoli of course 😂
That could be true. I always thought (when I started thinking about it) that they do those weird exercises because it helps you move in weird positions, and primes your entire system for stunts, all-around movement, feeling good as you move throughout the day etc. when I did a couple trx push up and core exercise Mark Wahlberg’s trainer recommends, my body started feeling great. Now, though, I feel good just lifting (without ego lifting) and really paying attention to my body, and stretching and doing mobility stuff. But like I said, you might be right. Seems possible. One more thing! ☝️ I will say, they definitely look more jacked on camera. Like they’ll pump up before certain scenes and dehydrate themselves and peak for a certain shooting day. So they are probably not as jacked as we think, depending on the actor and the camera angles they used, etc.
The explanation on the body and warmup was actually really useful to me. I know many probably view it as an obviously explanation. But I have never actually heard anyone dive into it like that. Thanks for the insight!
@valeaves for sure. It's actually discouraged me during the actual workout. Not saying I just left. But I would be thinking "oh this just ain't my day" and just either go through motions or cut things shorter than otherwise would have.
I found it super useful and insightful too. No one really talks about the hormone aspect of warm-up. Often my first few minutes of exercise are disproportionately tiring compared to the same workout just 5 minutes later, it's cool to know why.
The info on the not feeling bad when first warming up was super helpful. I always feel winded for the first few minutes. - good to know that's expected.
Just wanted to say watching your videos have educated me so much , I'd hit a plateau and through the science of your videos of the breakdowns I was able to hit my goal of 19 inch biceps ! You're the only person I take training advice off these days ! You know your sh1t my man , you're our hypertrophy saviour
OH SNAP - I love that you explained the "F*k, I'm already tired. How am I gonna do the workout" effect I feel sometimes when just warming up before a workout! That's why I love this channel!!
Your point about warm ups is dead on. I experience this the most when I run, the first warm up mile I feel like I’m out of shape and tired and then by mile 2 or 3 I wake up and I can really kick it in to gear.
Oh yeah the warmup hump for running got to be one of the most noticeable. Not just for muscles, joints, and nervous system, but it also brings into phase things like the vestibular and respiratory systems. That moment 5 minutes in when you push a bit harder and not a single thing in your body complains back at you is amazing.
I have health problems and a destroyed lower back. I have always been active and love my workouts. My rheumatologist, pain management doctor and my back surgeon have all told me to keep up my workouts with certain restrictions. I can only run on a treadmill but my doctors have told me to slowly warm up. The first 10-20 minutes are slow rolling. Once I’m warmed up I’m able to jog for about a hour and a half. Then I spend about 15 minutes walking on a decent incline. I have been weight training using exercises that my doctors have told me are ok. My pain level is so much better since I started getting back into my consistent workouts.
@@larrymaloney877ive met a couple of gay people that joke like this but every guy i know that is vehemently against homoerotic joking is a closeted homosexual its like you are grasping for the last shred of your heterosexuality.
That warmup information was good to know. I normally start my workout with a 10 minute run, and the first 1-6 minutes really suck. But generally the last minutes seem to go by easier after getting over that hump
Cracks me up every time too! I can’t remember the specific video, but he made some innuendo and then said something along the lines of “you know what I’m talking about..😏…A BLOWJO…” and then it cut to the music before he finished the sentence! I LOL’d and rewatched it so many times! Haha!
That "warm-up" effect hits me when I've been sitting on my ass doing nothing for a while and all of a sudden I have to jump up and run up a flight of stairs to answer the door. I get to the door and wonder if I've even ever worked out a day in my life since I'm gasping for breath once I get to the door :)
I feel like a lot of the "random" portions of the workout are likely directly correlated to scenes that are shot on the movies (why is he jumping up like that? there's a scene where he gets knocked down and has to jump up like that) so its easier to drill this during workout routines, so when they shoot the scene, and he has to do it 50 times in a row, it doesn't absolutely kill him. Kinda like Natalie Portman doing hardcore ballet training for several months before shooting Black Swan
But they don't really do those things. Natalie didn't even dance at all, she moved her arms up and down at the most. They have stunt doubles and they rarely even jump up from the ground themselves or even run on camera. There's stunt doubles even doing scenes of walking in heels in some shows/movies. It's crazy
@hoykfnvnnesnxnnensncjforkx1616 The Marvel actors are encouraged to do stunts that aren't intense or dangerous, it's why Idris Elba has sworn off doing more Marvel films once his contract was up (they made him do a lot of wire work). I am sure that when it comes to simple scenes of Thor hopping up from the ground, it is Hemsworth and not a double.
What i (probably) like most about the RP way, is the use of the words OPTIMAL, SPECIFICITY, and GENETICS. And their respectve breakdowns towards hypertrophy, (including but not limited to Dr. Mikes mental breakdowns), literally changed my whole approach to training.
i from Australia,Chris Hemsworth is a common sight in byron bay where he walks around the town centre barefeet with his hoard of kids and his Karen looking wife going to cafes. He is not that huge in real life, not even near his thor physique but still jacked. He is a very friendly guy,he always says hello to people who recognise him and doesn't seems to have a big ego.Chris seems to be be an overall good guy, family man who spends time with his family, just don't be dumb enough to download his fitness app and think you would end up looking like him
He's never as buff as Thor in his other movies either, it's just Marvel that demands he beefs up as much as possible. Edit: he likely pumps up for any shirtless scenes too, or any scenes where his arms will be on the spotlight.
What's with the "Karen looking wife" bullshit? You could've just said "wife" or even... I don't know... Her name? Do you have a problem with women or something, bro? It's a honest question cause I just don't understand. The rest of your comment seems pretty positive (I feel like at least you were trying to be positive) but that little part... Eesh... Cringe.

The warmup part is very true - both in endurance and resistance training exercises. Usually when I do my runs first 5-6 mins are pretty sluggish and I feel as if my legs are "sticking". Very similar with the gym - usually the first set of a given exercise sucks, the second peaks out lol, the following ones are pretty dependent on fatigue level.
For anyone interested, the full warm-up is 10 x 20 sec on/10 off bear crawl & 10 x 20/10 bodyweight squats: total 10 min. The missing exercises are (#4) standing triceps extension and (#5) reverse lunge + curl (?). The core finishers are Plank Punch Out, Plank Pulses & Plank Pikes, each for 8 reps. 3 rounds of the whole circuit, with no additional rest between rounds. Personally, I no longer have the stamina for such an intensive w/up, so I'd probably cut that by 60% for the first few workouts. I'd cut the curl from the reverse lunge: it's a distraction from the lunge, and we've already hit the biceps in exercise #2. And I'd cut the upright row in #8, sub in a bent-over row to hit the back, and replace the plank stuff with some dynamic core work like Mike suggests, or maybe some ab wheel.
The Bear Crawl makes me think of a similar workout I've seen rugby players do. to practise scrums. They basically use a heavy metal frame that they push along the floor on "skies" and can even add weight plates to it. I had a go on an unloaded one myself years ago, pushing it away from and back to the starting point. It was one hell of a cardio shock! My heart rate didn't go back to normal for maybe twenty minutes.
Hey Dr. Mike, I’ve searched everywhere but I’ve noticed in all your years on UA-cam you haven’t made a video about calorie cycling, if it’s a myth or if it has benefits. Could you do one next?
This video is super informative - instantly subscribed 👌 I often watch these Hollywood training videos and lose all motivation to work out. Simplified all the exercises and cut the bullsh*t 👌👌
switching your core on i guess means deliberately putting tension on there as in using your muscles to tighten the core area "sucking in" your belly and such. Activating your core delibertely sually does hlep improve your form a bit, in special if your core isnt too strong to begin with and you often fall into bad posture. So it does help to have your back straight and do the exercise properly without being bent over.

Great info about the warm up sometimes feeling difficult
I never knew that about warm ups. Getting tired right away has been in my head for years.
Dr. Mike please train Chris for his next Thor movie. Show them what achieving mind blowing progress looks like.
1:11 I say about anything, "It's easier to play keep up than catch up." Generally about cleaning, but it definitely works for fitness
New subscriber! Love your content Hi! from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
Yeah, those are rough
Scott, you’re a legend without a face.
Hey Dr. Mike, I’ve searched everywhere but I’ve noticed in all your years on UA-cam you haven’t made a video about calorie cycling, if it’s a myth or if it has benefits. Could you do one next?
Can you review the Army Combat fitness test and warm-up drills?
it's not all about muscle growth but about working the body through all forms of position to get leverage.
This video is super informative - instantly subscribed 👌
I often watch these Hollywood training videos and lose all motivation to work out. Simplified all the exercises and cut the bullsh*t 👌👌
Being tired during warmup so accurate. Even when you ho on a hike the beginning is harder then the middle
switching your core on i guess means deliberately putting tension on there as in using your muscles to tighten the core area "sucking in" your belly and such. Activating your core delibertely sually does hlep improve your form a bit, in special if your core isnt too strong to begin with and you often fall into bad posture. So it does help to have your back straight and do the exercise properly without being bent over.
