Fake Bake Basics 101 (Sponge Cake Tutorial)

- In this video, I share the basics of fake baking and what you will need to make your very first fake cake. I also share a quick cake made with two sponges towards the end. The video is a bit long but I try to cover as much as I can to get you started. This video is wonderful and you are a gem! I'm so excited to learn about Red Devil spackling. I have been using DAP for 2 years now and hated that it is gray. Adding white paint for whip cream can be a challenge to get the right consistency. THANK YOU! I just ordered it from Amazon so now I can finish about 6 milkshakes that are patiently waiting for whip cream.

I use a snow white lightweight spackling compound from Menards it comes in a square white bucket in a small and large size, it is perfect for doing fake treats

After a couple of months of watching videos and seeing people’s creations in FB groups, I finally for the nerve to make my first fake bakes this week…. Some mug toppers. I thought they would be an easy way to get started. I found this video extremely helpful, especially with your recommendations on where to get the pure white spackle, how to make nuts, your fav icing tips, the basic supplies to get when first starting out, and your comments about protecting your plumbing. I actually washed everything from my mug topper making day in my sink, so I will try not to do that again! Thanks for potentially saving my plumbing!

This was soooo amazing and cute! I’m having such an issue at pipping with spackle. I can’t keep the shape the same cuz the spackle is too firm. Once I get to the middle those swirls don’t match the starting swirls

You do amazing work! I just wanted to let you know if you use the model magic in the plastic candy molds, you can freeze them then they will pop right out then let them dry.
I made Christmas candy once and that worked for me.

Can spackle and caulk be used interchangeably? Or is lightweight spackle used only for icing and in piping bags and what is the caulk used for? Thank you for your answer. Hi! Thank you! Spackle and caulk are two different types of mediums. Spackle is best for fake icing. Caulk can be used as filling for a macaron or for making drips when added to mod podge. I share those techniques in other videos. Thanks for watching. 😊

Cupcakes and need to ship them to a friend from Florida to North Carolina. How do I package the cupcakes to keep them from being damaged in shipment?
Hi! I do not ship any fake bakes but I would first make sure they are totally 100% dry. Then wrap in bubble wrap place in a box and ship. I wouldn't stuff them...make sure they have plenty room.

I enjoyed your video on 101 baking so much. It really taught me a lot of things to do and you told me a lot of things to buy. I have never tried fake bake before but I am interested in doing so, you did an excellent job
Explaining everything and what to do And buy. I will be re-watching this on replay again and writing things down before I go and get anything to buy. You are very good at what you do. You are the first person that has really done a video like this telling each detail and how to do it and what to buy And I appreciate that very much. One question that I would like to ask you is this? Why do you not prefer to use acrylic paint from dollar tree? I know that it’s a lot cheaper and more ounces in a bottle but why do you not like to use it? thank you so much for the video on fake bake 101 and thanks for answering my question. I do hope that you do a 102 video soon thank you so much.
