Thanks for the shoutout! My buddy sent me a picture of his gamestop and it had a whole display case! The prices actually weren't too bad! But like Chris said, I think its too late. We all have our favorite stores now and would much rather support Chris, DoubleJump Games, Retro Rick than a big corporate store. I use to love Gamestop so much as a kid. Its kind of sad nowadays. I think the only thing I purchased from there was a Majora's Mask poster! Great topic and discussion guys!!
Definitely not too late when GameStop has better prices than my locals stores .. and Chris’s store is local one for me 😬.. they currently have get 4 used games at 9.99 for $20 .. so 🤷🏽♂️
I think they need retro games to survive. The problem is they are a corporation and they don't give a crap about collectors. This is the same store who literally threw away Nintendo DS and PSP boxes to save space. Collectors aren't going to go for that. I feel bad for anyone that works there but the moment they go away, it helps the indie game store and opens new opportunities.
Kris’ mindset on what he would do with GameStop is spot on. Change the name to Funcoland and go heavy on selling up the nostalgia. I would go a step further and completely redo the distribution chains as well. Offer like 60 to 70% on most retro gaming turn trade-ins for a 5 to 6 month period. Then step the trade-ins back to 30 to 40%, and go on a buying spree buying out game stores like Kris’ and Rick’s. 😂
I have been going to all gamestops around my area and picking up expensive games for cheap for example ,splaterhouse ps3 for 50 bucks, spiderman web of shadows for 55 bucks, spiderman shattered dimensions 55 bucks, shadows of the damned for 25 bucks, and my favorite pick up legend of zelda collectors edition for gamecube if gamestop keeps doing this and a awesome job on they're part im sure itll hurt disc replay and other retro game stores
GameStop ruined the game collecting market in the first place. They always paid the worst/lowest for trade-ins and sold the most beat up, destroyed games. Then whenever they deemed a console or generation obsolete, they stopped carrying those games and systems. I didn't grow up with GameStop and have never liked the company.
I got twilight, Pokemon colosseum, wind waker and melee all cib with light scratching all abit under price charting, def have more fun hunting at game stops then regular stores at the moment
Really interesting conversation. I have checked the GameStop here and haven’t seen anything retro yet but it’s the same up here, they are half toy store, half current gen games. Super fun listen, keep up the great work!
Hey there guys. You should have a look at the market in Australia. Locally limited sources and prices seem high compared to yours. Would be great if we had a lot of stores here with cheap prices.
I will say this though, where I am located, the closest retro game store is Chris’s Retro Games Plus in CT but I gotta drive 1hr20mins, Fantastic store btw. Would be awesome if there was a local retro game store 45mins away in the Putnam/Westchester NY area
As a GameStop employee I'd love it if we started taking in all retro. Were close but not all the way there. Im 20 and my boss was almost 40. She took in a fake pokemon emerald. Told her after one glance it was fake
Probably won't rustle too many jimmies but over the last year, i've found CIB Flower Sun and Rain, Black Sigil, and Dragonquest IV. All were very underpriced and now i don't have to spend market price at the local retro store. But i've also had an employee excited to show me 64 games that were obvious knock offs. apparently it was a manager that had taken them in, lolz.
I have a Friday ritual of stopping by my local Gamestops to peruse their wares. While I'm there, I always try to ask what games the employees are currently playing. I'd say 80% of the time, they say, "I don't really play games." That or they say Call of Duty. Sad state of affairs when most of the game store employees don't even play games.
I stopped shopping at lamestop when I saw a shirt rack & funko pop’s I’m like WTF is this . This isn’t GameStop anymore . when they stopped selling games from ps1-4 ,Xbox ,360,one s & very little DVD’s . they totally lost they’re identities from what the hell they want to sell anymore it’s just extremely sad I haven’t bought anything from there since then lamestop! Sucks!
They had them for quite a while, problem is they don’t test ANYTHING! Twice I’ve had disks come out of the TX distribution center and they were so over polished they couldn’t be read by my hardware. I’d rather risk eBay than GameStop.
I don't really have any hate for Gamestop, I'll pick up my new games there (mostly if they are on sale) but most of retro games I've picked up from retro stores, expos, flea markets or the FB marketplace.
I used to go to funcoland a lot as a kid but I don’t remember them having more than 2-3 generations of games at any time. The biggest problem is going to be them spotting fakes when they’re being sold to them…thankfully there’s a few good retro game stores in my area
We had 1 in orange county ca that did carry older games. When I asked at the time they had gotten permission from there district manager to carry them. 2 years later that store closed down.
They barely have anything retro in the stores. Every time I ask, the sales people tell me to go online. I mean… you’ll see a few Wii games here and there, but you can’t actually grab some Genesis games and be on your way like an actual retro game store. That’s a brilliant point on changing the name back to Funcoland.
As a GameStop employee, trust me, all they're worried about is pushing pro memberships and warranties that don't cover much anymore. And no, nothing gets properly tested...
They would need a big retro section and take it serious, not just a rack of N64 games. I lost interest after the 2010's. I dont care about funkos that much or shirts at "GameStop" They should rebrand the store to ToyStop or something....
Gamestop near me don't have retro games. Im not sure it would help there either. I agree with chris when he mentions how sad gamestops are nowadays. Repop toys are everywhere with very little selection of any worth while games. It's really really sad.
They actually have better deals then most resellers. I've been noticing that alot of people on whatnot selling retro games are complete rip offs. Ebay even has better prices then I've been finding on whatnot. Don't get me wrong I have got some good deals here and there but for the most part whatnot sellers are the worst at price gouging imo.
"Most" resellers is a stretch, considering GameStop is almost always above PriceCharting which is an average of sales for games based on ebay. Whatnot is not the only place where people resell games.
Right before Gamestop started selling retro games again online my local stores started carrying some retro games in stores. Not all them in my area, but a few. Then they started selling them online and slowly the stores stopped carrying them. I asked why they weren't carrying them in store anymore more and was told a new manager stopped it, and was also told they had to send them into the warehouse. I've occasionally seen the odd n64, gamecube, and dreamcast game. I don't go to gamestop as much as I used to. The walls are bare of games, and it's more hats and junk I'm not interested in. Anyone want a $60 Fortnite Nerf Gun?? No?? Exactly. If I knew they carried retro games I would go in weekly. I'd hit up multiple stores on rotation to see what each had. As of now I only go once a month or few months, to preorder an amiibo or see if there's a metroidvania I've never heard of physically on the switch. I've found a few switch MV just from there. I think if Gamestop actually went full into retro they'd likely mess it up, when you'd think it could help them. They need to close multiple stores that are in a 5 mile distance from eachother and just consolidate.
They had them years ago and then all of a sudden they were gone and The prices were actually better than most reselling scumbags on eBay or the exchange.
GameStop is done, everyone is safe. And that is why they will fail, too many young employees that can’t tell what a Sega Genesis controller is compared to a Saturn controller.
Sorry. I love the show but I don't understand why? You do 4 youtube 15 minutes video and then you do 2 hours video and you put it on Apple or Spotify . Question Which one do you watch? Just pick one .

Im down for GameStop to have retro games again!
Did the lighting change a bit or something? looks really nice anyway.
I think they need retro games to survive. The problem is they are a corporation and they don't give a crap about collectors. A friend of mine got Super Mario Bros, Exitebike, and Golf all CIB from GameStop for $40.
CIB is insane for that price
Aaron is being a lot nicer to Curtis in this one, I appreciate that a lot
Not gonna lie I’ve been finding ps3 and ps2 games for the low at game stop pretty dope
And I saw PS2 cases with manuals in their dumpster about 12 years ago. Gutting games was not cool and they did that with the GBA and DS games as well.
Kris’ mindset on what he would do with GameStop is spot on. Change the name to Funcoland and go heavy on selling up the nostalgia.

bru h u need to leave gamestop, you will serve incompetant people who do not belong as your boss and you will resent them soon
Those OOT shirts in the background though. 🔥🔥
You’re an OOT
@@pluspixelTeehee 🙃
Here comes the Repros.
😂
Riff, I LOVE your Sega Channel t shirt!!! Great topics as usual gentlemen!
they could sell literally anything and I'd never set foot in a game stop again. I can't deal with 20 questions at checkout and the constant upselling.
Probably won't rustle too many jimmies but over the last year, i've found CIB Flower Sun and Rain, Black Sigil, and Dragonquest IV. All were very underpriced and now i don't have to spend market price at the local retro store. Ricky with the World Gym sweatshirt! Real lifters know...
It’s so fire lol I told him if he didn’t get it, i was going to 😂
Saw the sign about buying cartridge games at the local GameStop
The Pokémon GBA & DS games are worth $250-$450 it’s just so insane
In the UK Game has died which is our equivalent of game stop. So future doesn’t look good however! The independent stores are thriving now
It definitely has been more new retro stores and toy stores as of Covid
chain store in the uk called game are stopping all trade ins this week.
How come you don’t like lil nas x, riff?
I have a Friday ritual of stopping by my local Gamestops to peruse their wares. While I'm there, I always try to ask what games the employees are currently playing. New favorite pod THX GUYS!!!!

Waiting on chris for his UA-cam channel start up !!!
Gamestop has been doing retro sales for a bit. Mostly online.
So that's where retro rick got that mario statue
no he got that for busting a nutt in phoenix resale.
They had them for quite a while, problem is they don’t test ANYTHING! Twice I’ve had disks come out of the TX distribution center and they were so over polished they couldn’t be read by my hardware. I’d rather risk eBay than GameStop.
I would love it Funkoland again. That would sell me in. Nostolgia.
I don't really have any hate for Gamestop, I'll pick up my new games there (mostly if they are on sale) but most of retro games I've picked up from retro stores, expos, flea markets or the FB marketplace.
Its sad because gamestop/EB games was a amazing store in the 90’s.
I think GameStop gives better prices on retro games than local store in my area I bought heart gold for 80 compared to 120$!
Doubt rif raf would sell that ticket for 40. Dude is money hungry you can tell in his eyes.
With big box retailers fazing out psychical games it makes some sense.
Yeah sad to see retailers getting rid of games 😢
I used to go to funcoland a lot as a kid but I don’t remember them having more than 2-3 generations of games at any time. The biggest problem is going to be them spotting fakes when they’re being sold to them…thankfully there’s a few good retro game stores in my area
Honestly I still wouldn’t trade with GameStop whether that’s with retro or newer games/console
Where is star fox guys store? What’s the name?
Retro Games Plus. One in SoCal and one in Connecticut if I remember correctly.
@@felix-ve8jk cool thanks bud I’m in socal so I’ll have to stop by some time
They have been adding retro games on and off for years now. They need to make their decision
Another great episode of the whatnot show.
In the last year I've bought more socks than games at GameStop.
We had 1 in orange county ca that did carry older games. When I asked at the time they had gotten permission from there district manager to carry them. 2 years later that store closed down.
Man I miss Funcoland 😔
I don't see it happening, last time i went into Gamestop for a preorder it was so sad they had so many collectibles not as many games as they used to.
better local game stores as gamestop
I heard about this because of the decline of physical media
FuncoLand was da sheeeeeiiitttttttt!
Gamestop getting into retro again has been solid for me. I picked up final fantasy 6 on gba for cheap and a few DS games too
nowadays gamestop is a lot more hot topic, a lot less funcoland.
Ricky’s shed has sheds.
Look at Ricky with his clean fitttt
Release the pod 😅😢

Lil Nas X is fantastic.
Sincere thanks for not having spread eagles 🦅 anymore guys
gamestop just selling background items for youtube videos now
Pixel squad!! 😎👊🏻
Soooo cool my friend 💖💛🧡💖❤💝
BoxLunch not lunchbox lol.
😂close enough haha
I miss Funcoland
As a GameStop employee, trust me, all they're worried about is pushing pro memberships and warranties that don't cover much anymore. And no, nothing gets properly tested...
Interesting, kind of like the Costco method but in game scale.
They would need a big retro section and take it serious, not just a rack of N64 games.
I lost interest after the 2010's. I dont care about funkos that much or shirts at "GameStop"
They should rebrand the store to ToyStop or something....
The collector market has been and always will be terrible and over inflated. Don’t buy these games just emulate them.
riff whos better, jerry hsu in the bag of suck video or sammy baca in baker 4 ?? 🤔
Gamestop didn't pay crap for the retro trade ins either
Poor Curtis anytime he says anything people just ignore him and continue talking I mean I understand why but still
Pretty sure he is the host and has the authority to command the room
LoL Curtis' wannabe Mullet is absolutely horrible! Hahahaha Tryin a little too hard Curt!
actually not trying and that’s the best part of a mullet. The more horrible the better 🔥😂

GameStop has become more of a toy store and your picking up the latest game
It comes down to this I believe who pays the most. Game stop historically pays very little for most games.
All you need to know about GameStop is they don’t support wishlists on their app.
That’s how mismanaged their business is.
No lie, I went to like 4-6 gamestops tying to find retro games when this popped off and 2 of the stores recommended going to retro games plus
U selling games 100% over the price chart price is worse than a game stop selling games.
They can’t be much worse than you guys on what not I’ve seen games go for way to much just because you guys sold them so be careful what you say😮
They sell a lot of repo’s… it’s scary buying online with GS.
I haven’t dealt with them much, how is their return policy with things like that?
They had them years ago and then all of a sudden they were gone and The prices were actually better than most reselling scumbags on eBay or the exchange.
ebay and Amazon have had better prices than any big box retailer for used games for a good 15-20 years
When I go to game stop and see theses games the selection is very slim
GameStop is done, everyone is safe. And that is why they will fail, too many young employees that can’t tell what a Sega Genesis controller is compared to a Saturn controller.
I just cant believe they still have a business
Gamestop is a decent place to source for arbitrage with their sales. I've got hosed on new games where they sent used/no case games, though. lol
GameStop doesn’t know how to handle retro. The prices and the reproductions etc. I haven’t set foot in 1 for at least a year
It’s just another place to get games
Not wrong haha you can get games from all avenues
Sorry. I love the show but I don't understand why? You do 4 youtube 15 minutes video and then you do 2 hours video and you put it on Apple or Spotify .
Question Which one do you watch? Just pick one .
Funcoland exaaaaaaactly what I was thinking Kris
