COVID restrictions was probably the greatest calamity for small businesses and the greatest windfall for Corporate America. Allowed the 1% to more effectively consolidate assets.
GameStop used to have ThinkGeek that was geared towards the collectible market when they shut that down they started focusing on that for GameStop, I see them pivoting more towards that and becoming an all around collectibles shop with retro games, modern games, trading cards, Action Figures, statues and high end collectibles if they don't shutter the remaining stores. Also still want you guys on our podcast sometime soon.
Kris, I was in Stamford, CT a few weeks ago and the 2 GameStops I went to told me to go to Retro Games Plus for retro games just like you said hahahaha
I work in a medical company during Covid time and we are necessity because we have to make IV bags for hospitals. The best thing about it is I hardly have any traffic. It was so quiet on the street. The company actually have a printed paper for me to put in the vehicle in case a police stop me on the street. Some folks at the company steal mask and gloves and were also let go. We ran out of mask literally because the vendor of the mask is in China. Gloves was close to the next thing. The scrub (medical) was running shorts because the contract company were also affected by Covid too.
Chris take about GameStop seems to track with what we’ve seen at our gamestops and we hit them every other week 5 of them in our area. They are a decent way to source for bigger value items for cheaper though since they don’t charge passed a certain value. They do keep some retro inventory in store not big they still ship the older stuff back to the warehouse. But they don’t get a lot of stuff. Except the rural ones seem to get more of the retro stuff than the ones in more populated areas.
Pumped to see Elliot from the Tower on here! He’s one of the coolest guys out there, pays more than fair, is selective about quality, and fair on prices. They always have the bangers.
Question for the podcast; how do taxes work for you guys hunting? I’m sure it’s more complicated as business owners, expo owners, etc. But how does it work if you hunt at the flea market and resale?
I've been to gametower a few times now and each time has been an amazing experience. Elliot showed me how to spot fake pokemon games and didn't ever mind answering any of my oddball questions. Awesome guy.
Question on the gamestop topic can any one from the state confirm if the shop game in the uk/Europe is a part of gamestop ??? because listing to the topic, it just rings so many bells about what game are doing in the uk
Being a realist here so GS threatens the retro game stores that if closed down these YT gamers/resellers cant get connections to and make deals with anymore! Also alot of the reason retro stores do shut down is bc the owners do not have any business 101 acumen and go into it with debt sadly.
if someone a gamestop corporate wants to do a vendor booth at a retro convention, I feel like its to market test and see if they can make money on reteo games... either that or trying to network. Maybe they qant to establish business relationships with other vendors, buy some of their slow moving games?
If you got a kart that says "please return to capcom after use" I'd wonder if it's not a pre-release review copy. Now a days reviewers get a code to download the game but back in the day they had to get the actual game, and if it was before the release date then they had to make the carts themselves. The magazines that did reviews were expected to give them back too.
True but sometimes they have games at a lower prices so for these guys they’d be selling it above price charting! Example is GameStop sells pokemon conquest for 50$ when it actually goes for 100 or more
@@realsteel7260 You have one example and love regurgitating it. If and only if GameStop has a game under pricecharting, and they rarely do, it's because they paid about 20% to the seller to obtain. Probably less. But GameStop used games are almost always junk. Terrible condition box, cartridge disc and usually a missing manual. Then they put two price stickers on the front and spine that make removal quite annoying. Maybe you work at GameStop or have some sort of nostalgia for a corporate chain store that's never done any worthwhile for video games, but me personally, I won't ever shop there again.
The prices of retro games at GS says alot vs "retro game stores" the retro prices at GS if the games are legit are way cheaper than your local retro game stores.
Chris with the Around the fur Deftones shirt wins! However, i live in a place with almost no mom and pop retro stores and gamestop is closer. I will be happy if they go more retro. No one mentioned game exchange, which we dont have withing thousands of miles but it looks like they do the same thing as mom and pop shops?
I hit a few gamestops in the past couple of days. It’s expensive! The few retro games I found were overpriced. I have seen videos where people get crazy deals on heavy hitters but they aren’t going to affect the market much from what I saw.
Game stores will continue to be popular you guys have no idea about the Gen Z tiktok demographic making videos about having Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii and 3DS nostalgia. Some of the videos rack up like 11-16 million views on TikTok I see people going out game hunting and buying Pokemon Platinum DS or Mario Galaxy and a Wii or Halo 3 and a 360 for a TikTok video and all the comments are Gen z people wanting to do the same. Trust me as they get older they will go back and start buying their PS3/360/Wii/DS games and collecting physical media has become trendy and cool again with people that were only around the digital era going to buy vinyl or physical dvds
That doesn't make them not worth while to visit for old stuff. Ive gotten a cib path of radiance and a authentic megaman x3 from them within 2 months so far for 95 each lol
GameStop already put Electronics Boutique or "EBGames" out of business when they bought them out. GameStop leadershiip doesn't care about any retro gaming community when they know how to make money and please their board.
If joe biden wins again, half the gamestores people love would go put pf business. There are a lot that have already gone out of business. A vote for Biden is a vote getting rid of your favorite hobbies. It also makes flea markets and thrifting more difficult because inflation makes people reevaluate what they have.
Let's just let the criminal be president. biden is essentially a corpse, but the other guy is just as bad. Both are terrible choices. trump only looks out for trump. The fact that none of his supporters see that is wild.

Visited California last weekend and went to Kris’s store in Huntington Beach. Very cool store. Loved the retro shirt selection
Pretty sure GameStop is going to become one piece of a conglomerate named Teddy

If you fail in this market, youre just bad at business. we dont need 100k mom and pop game stores. we could do with a few closing lol
Essential Chris not necessity
Chris with that fire Deftones shirt! 🔥
I don't buy from gaming stores anymore they way to over price I USUALLY just get it online

Good for you not closing down!! That makes me so happy he didnt shut down
Pixel Plus back in the room instead of on the hunt
What has six legs and wears short shorts? Stop me if you've heard this one. 😅
Game stop will close eventually as the digital age is upon us
Thank you for the insight of owning a physical store! Love the content 😍

GameStop $6 cash or $10 trade 😂

I can see how retro stores could be happy that Nintendo does their best to close down ROM sites now after watching this
This is my last generation of video games. I'm just going to get fan made games from Atari to super nes
i say 8 more years and then we can also see if star trek tng predicted it right that tv won't last after 2032

Retro Gaming Will Never Die!
🫶🏼😆
Retro stores will be fine. Nostalgia will always exist. In 20 years people will be trying to collect all the Switch games.
That’s going to be a HUGE collection
Thanks 4 sharing the story and hello from Danmark

can't wait to go to Retro Rick's expo

Geeeez Riff let the man tell his story.... before me me me me lock down my birthday 🎂 oh noooo lol
Latina! LOL Riff u funny
Rick should allow GameStop to vend. The community just needs to commit to only offering them 10% listed price on their stuff.
California is a $#!t show. Its unfortunate they werent able re call Gruesome Newsom.
Great content!
Gamestop sells fakes and doesnt test their games lol

So do alot of smaller shops
We've always said GameStop could and should put game stores out of business. If they had a real leader pretty "retro" store's wouldn't survive

Batman?
Playstation is no longer printing discs. Ten years or less and game shops will be gone. You can't survive on Tecmo Bowl cartridges and COD discs.
