@@mikeroegames I still get confused about these things:
      1) When using a photo texture, how to resize from higher resolutions to lower? (use Bicubic, Linear, Hard Edges) - I go from XXXX to 512 with Bicubic, then 512 to 256 with Hard Edges. Or sometimes Bicube all the way down from XXXX to 256.
      2) Maximum texture size for models with lots of details? Maximum texture block? (i.e. 64x64 for areas of higher detail)?
      3) What to do with models (such as vehicles) that have many different details and needs for textures? Separate objects with separate UV maps and separate textures? (I did this for my catapult that I posted in your group)
Although after more than 30 PS1 models and textures in the past 2 months, I'm starting to get the hang of it, but I still think my textures are too detailed.

    Great video (especially the intro)
You can also merge verticies by enabling snapping to vertex and toggling some auto-merge thing around the top right corner. Then, when you just need to merge something, you just have to move it and hold down ctrl. I don't see many people using this approach but to me it seems to be the fastest option.

This is fantastic! It's really cool seeing you use some of the techniques I figured out on my own for my personal projects- like importing a character model to use as a scale reference, or keeping uniform geometry of basic squares as well as right and isosceles triangles for easier UV mapping- since I also use this look.
Do you have any tutorials on how to use animated image textures for a finished, rendered project? If I were doing my project in real-time it probably wouldn't be an issue, but I'm trying to do an animated series in the style of a cheaply made, obscure Saturn game, so it needs to be rendered.
It's also important to keep your render resolution low- PS1 could only render at a maximum of 640x480. This not only helps with authenticity, but it also makes the visuals mesh better- it's not as jarring seeing a low poly model with super low res textures, when the entire screen is at a low resolution.

Would it be strange to describe your textures as "juicy"? Like fresh fruit. The models lean hard into the texture work and really sell the exaggerated shapes. It feels like I'm looking at a late-2000's dark fantasy webcomic if that makes sense. Or maybe more like the pretty obscure Dreamcast game "Evil Twin".

well I must say the graphics look pretty sharp! compare to the garbage smash potatoes graphics the PS1 had. but still very nostalgic! you even capture the essences of how the artwork and animations where done back then. but the sharp graphics is a dead give away if not for that no one would tell the difference you could have named it a rare PS1 game never before seen with your own fake company name and no one would 2nd guess it.

Alright, a late responce but here we are. So for the glass I cheated a bit. I used a normal unity shader set to "Transparent". On the glass texture itself I made the glass transparent there too by changing the opacity to about 50% I think. Simple, easy, and the lack of wobble was not too noticeable due to it being lodged between things that do wobble.
Currently the project is on my mac and the PSX shader I normal use dose not handle partial transparencies very well. I think the Haunted PSX Shade would, but I can't get it to work on mac so I can't say. Once I move the project over to my new PC for the final render I'll know then.

    • @mikeroegames

I remember this vid taking longer that normal due to everything involved. Because of that I decided to do this in chunks.

Hey, how complicated is it to learn Unity without ever having touched it before to import Blender assets and animations into it for making films?

    • @mikeroegames
      @mikeroegames  2 роки тому

It’s very easy. For static objects you can move your blend files in Unity, but for animated assets you will need FBX. Regardless it is easiest dragging and dropping them in. As for the program itself it’s not too bad. Start with what is necessary to what you want to do and then after that it’s easier to expand from there.

The one I am using only dose texture wobble and not the full effect. I recommend the Haunted PSX Render stuff if your on a PC.
