Not to take away from the little girl, she is adorable.
She speaks very good English because Kenya used to be a British colony. We learn m Swahili and English alongside it in school and both are spoken every day by most city people.
Great video. Next time add "sukumawiki" with the ugali and meat.

I have been to Kenya some 45 times, and own property there. I had an absence of 10 years when I returned, I hardly recognized Nairobi, so much had changed. Many places I knew had closed, with many new ones. The city is looking great, but the Nairobi Expressway blights the city, a big white elephant with very little traffic on it. Driving from the airport, it just cuts off your whole view, The JKIA once dominated the city skyline is barely visible now. Lots of nice tall buildings have been erected.

I visited Kenya about 30 years ago, stayed in Nairobi some of the time and even then, compared to Boston where I lived Nairobi was at least as modern and certainly bigger. But most interesting for me was the huge variety of animals seen. On my first full day , mostly Maasai Mara I saw 28 distinct species of animals, we drove within feet of lions. It was phenomenal. The people were also great in that they were all trained for whatever jobs they had. Our tour driver had 3 years formal schooling to drive safely, know the roads and sights and teach tourists about the animals etc. I see all of the attention to detail is paying off. Love it.

@@MainneliThere are so many people earning above 100k in Kenya. The statistics wanatumia ni za watu wako kwa formal employment. Sahi kuna very many young people doing their own businesses na wengine wako kwa industries kama online businesses, including writing. Just because watu wa Kilimani wanalipa 100k rent does not mean they're rich. Na si kila mtu huko analipa 100k, kuna cheaper houses huko. Rich people wanakaa places kama Muthaiga, Runda, Kitusuru, Karen, etc. If unadhani watu wanaishi Kilimani ni rich ask them wahamie hizi places nmekutajia uone kama wanaeza manage.

    • @freedomm
      @freedomm 10 місяців тому +20

@@Mainneli It's not rich. A person on a salary can afford to live there. There's no employed position in Nairobi that can make a single individual afford to buy in Karen based on salary alone. You need legacy money for Muthaiga, Kitisuru, Sprng Valley, areas like that. That's how you tell rich and middle class apart. So even parts of Lavington are attainable but real Lavington proper where there are no apartment blocks is rich because houses go for 1-2 million dollars.

But you’re still Indian. You’re not originally Kenyan. There is no area in kenya in which you come from unless you refer to parklands as your ‘ushago’. Majority of you can’t speak Swahili and you don’t have Kenyan culture, you only practice your Indian culture which is fine. When Kenyans go to their rural homes in December, you’re on your way to India. So yes, you’ll always be Indian unless you marry a Kenyan and give birth.

@@aidaofearth Capitalism and communism are two distinct economic and political systems that offer contrasting approaches to managing economies and societies. Here are the key differences between them:
      ### Ownership and Control
      - **Capitalism:**
      - **Private Ownership:** In a capitalist system, individuals and businesses own property and the means of production (e.g., factories, machinery, and land).
      - **Market Economy:** Decisions about production, investment, and distribution are driven by market forces such as supply and demand.
      - **Communism:**
      - **Public Ownership:** In a communist system, the state or the community collectively owns the means of production. Private property is typically limited or nonexistent.
      - **Planned Economy:** Economic decisions are made by central planning authorities, aiming to allocate resources equitably across society.
      ### Economic Goals
      - **Capitalism:**
      - **Profit Motive:** The primary goal is to generate profit, which incentivizes innovation and efficiency.
      - **Competition:** Market competition drives economic activity, often leading to better products and services.
      - **Communism:**
      - **Equity and Fairness:** The primary goal is to achieve a classless society where wealth and resources are distributed according to needs.
      - **Cooperation:** Emphasis is on collective effort and cooperation rather than competition.
      ### Social Structure
      - **Capitalism:**
      - **Class Distinctions:** Capitalism often leads to significant class distinctions based on wealth and income, with clear divisions between capitalists (owners) and workers.
      - **Individualism:** Emphasizes individual rights, freedoms, and responsibilities.
      - **Communism:**
      - **Classless Society:** Seeks to eliminate class distinctions, aiming for an equal society where everyone has similar social and economic status.
      - **Collectivism:** Focuses on collective welfare and the well-being of the community over individual interests.
      ### Government Role
      - **Capitalism:**
      - **Limited Government:** Generally advocates for minimal government intervention in the economy, supporting free markets and individual entrepreneurship.
      - **Regulation:** The government may regulate to prevent monopolies, protect consumers, and ensure fair practices, but its role is limited compared to communism.
      - **Communism:**
      - **Extensive Government Control:** The government has significant control over economic activities, including production, pricing, and distribution.
      - **Central Planning:** The government plans and directs economic activities to ensure that resources are distributed equitably and according to the collective needs.
      ### Examples and Outcomes
      - **Capitalism:**
      - **Examples:** The United States, United Kingdom, and other Western democracies are often cited as examples of capitalist economies.
      - **Outcomes:** Capitalism has led to significant economic growth and innovation but has also been criticized for creating income inequality and social disparity.
      - **Communism:**
      - **Examples:** The Soviet Union, China (historically), and Cuba are examples of countries that have implemented communist principles.
      - **Outcomes:** Communism has aimed for equitable distribution of wealth but has often struggled with inefficiency, lack of innovation, and authoritarian governance.
These differences outline the fundamental ideologies and operational mechanisms that distinguish capitalism from communism.

@@aidaofearth The approaches of capitalism and communism to housing and homelessness reflect their broader economic and social philosophies.
      ### Housing in Capitalism
      - **Private Ownership:** Housing is largely a private good. Individuals and businesses own and develop real estate. People buy or rent homes from private owners.
      - **Market-Driven:** Housing availability and pricing are driven by market forces like supply and demand. Developers build where there's potential for profit.
      - **Variety and Quality:** There's a wide variety of housing options, from luxury apartments to affordable housing. However, quality and accessibility often depend on income levels.
      - **Government Role:** Governments may intervene to varying degrees, providing subsidies, tax incentives for developers, or public housing projects. Zoning laws and regulations shape development.
      - **Homelessness:** In capitalist societies, homelessness can be a significant issue, often tied to economic disparities. Efforts to address it include shelters, non-profit organizations, and government programs, but funding and effectiveness can vary.
      ### Housing in Communism
      - **Public Ownership:** Housing is typically owned and managed by the state or community. Private real estate markets are limited or non-existent.
      - **Planned Distribution:** The government plans and allocates housing based on need rather than market forces. Housing is often provided at low or no cost.
      - **Uniformity and Quality:** Housing quality may be more uniform, with efforts to ensure everyone has access to basic accommodation. However, this can sometimes lead to lower quality or less variety due to limited resources and centralized control.
      - **Government Role:** The government plays a central role in all aspects of housing, from construction to allocation and maintenance.
      - **Homelessness:** Homelessness is less visible or officially acknowledged, as the state aims to ensure everyone has housing. However, shortages and inefficiencies in allocation can still lead to inadequate living conditions or unofficial homelessness.
      ### Comparative Outcomes
      - **Capitalist Systems:**
      - **Pros:** Greater innovation and variety in housing options; potential for high-quality living environments; dynamic response to demand.
      - **Cons:** Significant disparities in housing quality and accessibility; higher risk of homelessness due to economic inequalities and market fluctuations.
      - **Communist Systems:**
      - **Pros:** Aim for universal housing access; reduced disparities in housing quality; housing not typically tied to individual wealth.
      - **Cons:** Potential for inefficiency and bureaucratic delays; quality may suffer due to limited resources and lack of competition; shortages and over-centralization can lead to suboptimal living conditions.
In summary, capitalist and communist systems offer contrasting approaches to housing and homelessness, each with distinct advantages and challenges influenced by their underlying economic and social principles.

I visited Nairobi in 2023. First I spent several weeks in a poor part of the city. Of course not in the slums but in Roysambu, Kasarani and Kahawa West. Only after that I got to a rich part of Nairobi. It looked, smelled and felt like another country! I never expected such a big difference. People are very friendly but a foreigner should not walk alone. And in some districts of the city only the district residents should walk. I feel you made a good video. And my favorite mall is Sarit.😊
