I bought the VHS tape of this production and have it to this day. One of the best films I've ever seen. I love the plays by J.M. Synge. I'd like it if "Riders to the Sea" were made into a movie.
Ian Kelland, I found it! The whole movie is here on UA-cam. I'm not going to look for it now, but it definitely is here. Now my record for the past few days is complete. I've now found all of the movies I've been looking for for years. Seek and ye shall find. Now that I think about it, I can even watch this video on my TV set because I subscribe to Netflex. At the moment, I don't know how to do that but I know that it can be done.
My mother Ballylongfond born mother told me a story: In late September 1961 my parents were honeymooning in and around the Dingle Peninsula. One evening they were having dinner at their hotel and they noticed two gentleman at a nearby table paying my mother a lot of attention. My father challenged them and they turned out to be directors working on a film. They thought my mother bore a resemblance to their leading lady and they were looking for a stand-in for some shots - would my mother be interested? My mother turned down their offer! I am pretty sure the film was Playboy of the Western World.
I've found several places. The catch is you have to be prepared to part with two big ones. I liked the film and have shopped for it for several years, but I'll have to wait until the price comes down.
Dear Mr Kennelly, Thank you for sharing your memories and wonderful photographs. I don't suppose you know where I can get a DVD of the film? Ms McKenna is my favourite (the greatest) Irish actress too! Best regards
