Just one point. In the video you say fibre runs from the pillar to the node, it's actually a big bundle of copper. The fibre runs to the cabinet, from there copper to the pillar. To change from exchange based phone or DSL the wire back to the exchange is removed and the one from the node is connected to the copper to your house.

and if you're real unlucky like I am the pillar and node are not even in the same street adding to the copper length

The horse and cart was a great technology! The only difference this time is that we already have the technology and we're not using it!!!

    Hi Pat,
good job, I agree 100% with all of you're NBN videos, they should left the Fttp and not build the mess that we are getting.
I call it the " Multi technology Mess".
I've got a good one, NBNco are going to dig the street in my area to run coax cable to buil an HFC network, way not run fiber instead for at least a Fttc network !!!

Just to add you have to be a carrier approved installer/cabler whether ACMA approved cabler or not to install between street and first socket.

That star-configuration creates a problem called bridged-tap and will give you headache with your internet speeds. Simplest way to solve the prob is just running a new cable from the lead-in entry point to where ever your nbn NTD/NCD is... that's it.

Good video but if you had time to show how many pits and joints 1 pair of wires goes though you may scare viewers 😁

ok for starters you should not be even lifting the pit lid in the street and accessing it if you are not qualified or have the correct authorization to do so.
You can get quite a large fine for doing so. Your comment or text when you were doing this saying " be careful when opening the pit as it can be full of asbestos" needs to be removed to - "you should not be lifting or even touching and get a qualified technician to do so ".
Touching or even moving the copper cables in these pits can actually disconnect or cause issues with other services here . You dont want to be opening these pit lids, and have local residents come out wondering why their internet has just dropped out or stopped working .
The little white tube in to you premise is called conduit.
Thank god you put "these works need to be done by a registered phone or data cabler " lol...., when talking about the wall plate that had been removed .
Remembering that just because people wire their premise up with fantastic cat5e or cat 6 cabling it will only ever be as fast as the weakest point , the FTTN, or FTTC.

It's utterly unbelievable how primitively humans develop and construct things of such importance to the citizenry and society at large. I would say it's nothing but unprofessional that the pits can be nothing other than ostensibly a covered hole in the ground. The way in which humans wire things is likewise unbelievable.

30 years ago this was actually fine and worked to what was required at the time. These cables and pits , joints were not designed to be pushing such large data and voice down them that they are to today .
