Walleye fishing in the Pacific Northwest usually translates to fishing at depths unheard of in most traditional Walleye fisheries. From Montana to Washington our river and reservoir Walleye commonly occupy depths of 40' to 100' or more, some Walleye in Lake Pend Oreille have been caught in gillnets deeper than 200'!!! The light weight lures used by Great Lakes and Canadian shield lakes anglers just won't cut it here. Here is my take on the best Walleye lures for bring those deep water Walleye up and into your boat or kayak.

jigging raps are a great bait; I've used them for Lake Trout, Browns, Perch, Crappie, pretty much everything. Thanks for the video.

12:47. The look on that fishes face says it all. He’s definitely pissed he fell for that jig and got to be put on display for the UA-cam world to see for about 30 seconds 😂😂😂

Interesting seeing the deep bite for walleye where you are. We fish a lot of walleye on Canadian Shield lakes but never catch or hear of them deeper than 50, even on lakes 200'+. Just lake trout, burbot and whitefish past a certain point. Jigging Raps are good producers for those fish.

Deep water Walleye seems to be a Northwest thing. They have been netted at 200’ deep on Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho

Wow! They didn't appear to suffer the grisly physiological damage or mortality from decompression. Is there any trouble getting them to go back down after releasing them?@@spiltmilt

There is. Most of these deep water fish tend to younger males and I harvest them if legal to do so but they do suffer barotrauma. In the event I catch a larger fish I have a deep water release attached to 2 lbs of lead but even then the studies I see still estimate 40-60% mortality.

@@spiltmiltGeorgia too. Down here at the end of their range. They get caught at 110+ ft pretty regularly. Insane lol

New lure looks good . Best I've found is the Acme Hyperrattle in 2.5 inch , mostly purple or gold . Try a lot more aggressive snapping and I think you'll see improvement . Tom Bowley is the best fisherman with thoughs I've seen . Good luck

I did try more aggressive snapping and I didn’t get any bites. When I went with less action. I got more bites. The Walleye I fish for and the ones Tom Boley fishes for are wholly different.

Curious, can you stand in this kayak? I'm looking for something to do fly fishing and some jigging (occasionally)

Yes I can if it relatively calm. The sportsman 120 PDL is far more stable
