Matthew I really enjoy the voiceovers you have started to do. I’m sure it adds time to your editing process but it really helps us see you throw how you normally would while still getting great instruction…
Very nice! When my teacher demoed this technique last year he alternated the wheel direction as he pulled out so the facets ended up vertical rather than spiraling, but I think I prefer the twist - gives the bowl more of a sense of movement.
Matthew, thank you for giving us such a very nice and detailed training session. Those bowls are just beautiful and something I want to try when I go back to the studio I go to. How fun that will be. Your work is always so creative and detailed.
I made two of these bowls today. The first was ok. It didn't swirl as much as yours did. The second I cut too deep so it was about to collapse. It was fun and I will practice more.
Thanks for the video! I watched the reel and thought gee I hope he makes a You Tube of how he threw that cause it is fab! Definitely gonna give that a go. Love your videos; they're so helpful.
I recorded the trimming of one of them but not sure of the quality. I think that kind of video should be a dual perspective video. May need to plan one for the future.
Thanks a lot. Really nice variation on Facet Bowls (that I also love to do) 🙂 One thing that I have always found tricky is how to control the degree of swirl when you expand this - or any type of, texture cut cylinders. Very often they do not swirl at all. Sometimes some. So far, I have an idea about that it may be a question about how dry or wet it is. The more dry the more I sort of drag the clay and make the swirl. But then again, I am not completely sure that is the only - or most important factor. What is your experience with this? How do you get the most swirly effect?
So maybe you can tell me the secret.... I just threw one of these and did everything "the same" as your video. Mine is just a lovely fluted bowl - no spiral? What happened? I'm sure I must have missed something..... :/
@@MatthewKellyPottery I believe you are correct. Upon reviewing your video again I realized that I started at the bottom and just bellied it out 🙄 I will have to give it another shot. Making that other one into a small planter! 😂
Thanks Matthew , your a great teacher ! I’ve been watching some of your videos and then I’m heading out to the barn where I’ve keep my my wheel . So grateful 😎How can I pitch in something to help keep you going? Lance
You’re welcome! I’m glad you’re inspired. I have a Patreon account but that’s a monthly subscription. I don’t talk about it much but that is a way you could support my efforts.
Less than 10 minutes of time to throw a beautiful bowl. Skill. Thank you for this great video.
If I wasn’t being fancy it would be much faster. Haha

I’m glad you enjoy them. Yes it definitely adds time but it seems to be going well when I don’t fumble over my words too much
Beautiful bowl Matthew, thanks for the clear instructions!

Yes I definitely want the twists although having the facets vertical with a widening effect would be cool.
Love this design!!!
Awesome process. Thanks for sharing!
Very nice Matt, thank you for the demo as always.
You’re welcome
I love to see the different ways people approach faceting pottery. Thanks pointers I am sure I will add a few things to when I make them.
There are so many different ways. Not that mine is the best by far but having fun experimenting

Really nice! Probably some of the best of this technique I’ve seen!
Not sure it’s the best but it works
@@MatthewKellyPottery yes 😇 it’s an easy technique to mess up or get uneven 🙏🏻
Incredible.
cool project thoroughly explained - thanks!
That’s beautiful! Love these voiceover vids
Thanks so much for this video. Going to try this one today. Also, thank you for returning to making some more instructional videos, they are so good.
You’re welcome. We all need a break from the social media grind at times
Thank you! Can't wait to try this! 🙂

I thought it would be a great combo to make some full vids of the same pieces I make for reels
I have tried this technique a few times and sure need to practice a lot more.
Absolutely amazing!!! Thanks for sharing your work. I’m going to try and make this :)
Good luck
Definitely going to make one
Good luck!
Lovely! Can we have a trimming video of this type of bowl? Thanks so much.
I recorded the trimming of one of them but not sure of the quality. I think that kind of video should be a dual perspective video. May need to plan one for the future.
cool..thanks a new variation to try
Will definitely be trying this today!

loved this and I sure am going to try this.
Bravissimo, complimenti per questo lavoro!
Nice work!!
Thanks, Matthew. Have you ever done a coffee mug in this style?
I have 9 that I just made. They will be available for my online sale in a couple weeks
@@MatthewKellyPottery Awesome!

Nice instructions...but I prefer your more relaxed, spontaneous videos.
Thanks. I’ll continue to do some of both

I think it probably has to do with the down pressure while opening up the cylinder after carving.
