This happened to my 2012 Ridgeline RTL for no reason. I topped off the charge to 13V, and still nothing happened when I tried to start it, but the headlights and horn worked fine. The next day I went out and tried it again, thinking maybe the computer needed to reset or time out. Anyway, it started instantly and has for the next 4 months since. STRANGE!
I have a 2008 ridgeline and mine was randomly not starting but always worked to shift to nuetral and turn the key while jiggling the shifter. As of today makes a click sound but nothing makes it start... Towing it to a shop next week in hopes of figuring it out.
Helpful video! Same issue right now with my 2007 Ridgeline. Thought it was battery which seemed a bit low which tested bad - replaced battery. Still have the issue. Have been thinking it has a parasitic draw - and initial testing at the battery confirmed like .35 mA after the whole involved “put vehicle to sleep” process, but can’t see any current across any of my fuses. Seems to happen most when parked overnight, but when I check battery voltage, it’s like 12.6-12.8 V and I’ll still jump it and it still won’t start. When i did this today, I remembered a couple of times I had cycles the shifter thru the gears and tried that again while jumping the vehicle and it started right up. Next time will try gear shifting or Neutral start trick before jumping and see what happens.
Hi there sir! Your bad ass! When I went to your video I noticed your ridgeline was doing exactly what mine was doing. And the same thing happened to me except not during fill up. But it was running and. Starting flawlessly and one day i went outside to take daughters to school and nothing happened when I tried cranking over. So I thought it was long shot but I did what u did. And I did it a few different times. Repetively trying to crank it and nothing. So I was just about to go inside to do some more research and decided to try once more and first crank it started right up! So ty so much for this very productive.
I’m listening to the jingling when you are putting the key in the ignition and wondering hoe much weight is hanging off the key when it is in the steering column switch. Too much weight will tear apart the ignition switch. Is your starter suffering from heat soak? Getting your gas you have a short stop and when you try it a couple of times it then has time to cool off before it starts again.
I had the same issue while traveling. Went to a rest stop, returned to vehicle to leave and nothing, no lights, clicking, etc. After checking what little I could, closed the hood and got back in and it started! Traveled to nearest Honda dealer service. It cost me one day travel time and $190.00 to find out that there was nothing wrong! It did not happen again during my trip or since returning home. It would be nice to know why this happened once or if it happens again. Time and travel will tell.
My 06 ridgeline was doing this from time to time for months and then just this week it happens each time. I have to angle the key just right and sometimes it takes 30 times sometimes it takes 3 times there is no pattern. I don't have anything hanging off my keychain. I can't figure it out! My first thought was the battery but its at a 100% charge. I thought maybe the key microchip or a low battery in the FOB but I don't get that blinking green key indicator so I know it's now that. The truck runs fine no issues. Can't figure this out!
Transmission selector switch might be the issue. Will only start in park or neutral. If computer does not know it is in park, then put shifter in neutral. Try to start in N.
Have the same issue. Putting it in Neutral also worked for me. Thanks for the tip! The issue is probably tied to the shift range indicator switch. Mine's on the verge of failing and I have to use the emergency shift override button on top of the steering column, behind the wheel, to get it to register it's in Park to release my key.
I am having the same situation with my 2010 Ridgeline. It just happened all of a sudden. The exact same lights came on for me. Please let us know if replacing the starter/solenoid solved the problem.
@@Ocalaman it was the starter. Relay made a click. Tapping the solenoid did nothing. Starter was seized up. I ended up getting the starter replaced. Problem solved.
So I’ve been having this exact same problem with my Ridgeline. But what did you find out?! Was it the starter or the relay or the ignition switch? I just replaced my starter lol
I wondered why you or her didn't try to start in neutral.. I always wear gloves for protection. My hands are thinner probably too but it would be wise to wear gloves around sharp things in engines and around car parts always. Even when you think you don't need.
I grew up in my dads garage with no gloves and in the machine shops i worked it wasn’t till my last 15 years that they started to talk about gloves and i have 4 different pairs with various degrees of protection, I wouldn’t be without them, my hands as a mechanic stay cleaner and i make a-lot fewer trips to the bandaid/ duct tape for protection of my bleeding fingers
I only just started watching, guessing the starter as the exact same thing happened to me this summer, except it never started after that until I replaced it.
I have a 2009. I like it so much, I got rid of my gas miser 2020 subaru for a 2023 ridgeline.. I still like the 2009 better. My garage looks much better with two Ridgelines.
OK haven’t watched the video yet. Let me take a guess. 1) check battery voltage, 2) check computer with scan tool 3) check voltage at starter. 4) replace starter Let’s see how close I am..
@@codyt.346 Now that makes a lot of sense. I wonder if a lot of starters were replaced that didn't need it. Moving the shifter up and down could maybe reposition the contacts.
Same exact experience is happening to my 06 Ridgeline 140k miles. I was amazed about the gas station thing and I'll be looking for that. Love to know if replacement of the starter solved all issues

Been following this channel for years for your Ridgeline vids! Mine wouldn't start yesterday, still clicks.

Could it be the transponder in the key?
I’m having the same exact issue with my 2007 Ridgeline. Have you had any issues since you replaced the starter?

could it be the positive battery cable connection?

4:55 I forgot what it was called. Neutral sensor. On the gear shifter. Vehicle thinks it’s in drive so will not turn over…. Ok I continue
