Slip slidin’ away
Slip slidin’ away

It remains me of great 👍 times in Ireland 🇮🇪 x
Art's soulful voice and Paul's poetry. Once in a generation people.
Dave McBroom I agree & well stated, I might add")
"And every stop is neatly planned
For a poet and a one man band"
Exactly
If that.
Agreed. Frankie Valli is among that group
Probably the most beautiful musical performance I’ve ever seen in 56 years on this planet.
I am so profoundly grateful for music like this...
We are so very blessed to have grown up with the music of the 60s & 70s. I know how it sounds but the kids that came after that just don't know what they missed. And I really love it when a young musician comes along and plays these classics.
I was at this concert. John Lennon had been gone only 9 months and one of the entrances to Central Park is right next to the Dakota, so it was pretty emotional from the start. 500,000 peopl showed up and I got separated from my brother. We didn't see each other til the next day because nobody had cell phones! I can't believe how young SnG look. Unbelievable music, thanks for posting. :)
I love how Garfunkel sings along in the background. Wasn't his part but he knows the entire song like he's a fan. Pretty cool.
Mel Bee he got such no credit.... I’m not trying to take away from Paul, but it was so unfair.... it went on for years...
I'm sure he is a fan! He's probably Paul's biggest fan.
Totally! Endearing.
Yeah, he's totally his biggest fan....
Obviously he know ever ounce of the lyrics because he created and rehearsed the song with Paul simon
Among top 10 concerts of the century, no doubt!
Paul Simon is the perfect 20th century minstrel. And Art Garfunkel has the smoother voice a man can have.
"The information's unavailable to the mortal man"
How profound is that?!?
Love these guys.
Todd Scofield: The words of the prophet are written on the subway walls, tenement halls, and echo in the sounds of silence...she looked so glad to see me, I just smiled...( 50 Ways) poignant, gut bucket blues deep, desolate. Paul is a philosopher who can make everyman listen to truth; however obscurely he phrases it
o to bring back the years of the past,
Brill.....sooo truexx
me too
I am so grateful to know it. Thank you for sharing . LOVE THEM !
I anyone watching and listening in 2020? I just love the Concert in the Park - must be the best concert ever. Thankful for the technology that we can watch this today. Greetings from New Zealand.
I watch these two when I get bored. I got all their CDs. I play in my car but if I am home I'll watch their video.
Yes during pandemic. So soothing during insanity
Watching it right now still in bed on a beautiful Friday morning of 24th April,2020 while on quarantine....😊
Thank goodness for digital music. When CDs were still a thing, I bought the CD of this concert three times. And three times it was stolen.
New Zealander too and watching this great music too
3:11 you can tell how sincere Paul is about the lyric
Once in a while 2 special people cross paths, collaborate, and harmony is never the same to all ears that follow.
Incredible~!
@@jcharper2351 Still listening 2021 and still great music.
@@normancurragh768 I am too, March 2021,
@@nell911ful Good on you Martha.
Like Lennon McCartney
Paul Simon is the best ❤️!
Ilove dearly Garfunkel also!
I am in June 2020. Watch this concert over and over. This is a favorite of mine. Being 82 know a bit about this Slip Sliding Away. They are now not too far behind me in age but I still love both of them and always will.
The years .. they do slip slide away. We only seem to understand that when there are far more years behind us than lie in front of us. And no one gets away with the dillusion of (eternal youth). We're in a long line up to the cliff's edge. I don't want to look over that edge...
Wish they could do just one more!
What a sad song not many people understand it... but so beautiful ❤
Hope you're doing well, Martha!
@@PandaPrincessM Thank you, I am doing well for my age and thankful to be still thinking and feeling young at heart. I want to dance always to their music. Hope you are wekk tii,
This is the best version of this song. Art's voice is what makes it better.
Arts voice made any song better
Arts voice made any song better
Love the way Garfunkel steps back and is still singing in the background without being on a mic...
This concert is indeed almost a miracle. They sing amazing songs in an unique way and keep thousands of people silent and enchanted.
What's hard for me to believe is that this was recorded back in 1981. Seems like yesterday.
i love how somethimes you cant tell who is singing the harmony and who sings the melody bc their voices blend in perfectly!
You're so right!!!
i know...jiji
Anna Schulz omg whoever said this should also listen to or be a fan of Steely Dan..., it’s a vocal and harmony melt - listen to Aja.... there is in essence, no true line from a sound engineering standpoint, where the vocals begin and where the music began.... it’s so fluent, does the melody or music lead the lyrics or vice versa.... just a great harmonic album.... I’ve worked in music for years and all I can say is I’ve been left mindless by this album over and over...- as well have any famous musicians I’ve ever worked with..... it’s a masterpiece.
& CSNY too was good in this
they learnt that from the masters don and phil
Probably the most thought provoking verse ever....
God only knows
God makes his plan
The information's unavailable
To the mortal man
We work our jobs
Collect our pay
Believe we're gliding down the highway
When in fact we're slip slidin' away
I have never seen two voices melt so beautifully together... the best
A euphonious synergism of mellifluous compatibility.
@@berniezhang8678 Euphonic* synergy*
Because it doesn't exist .
Love the way they switch melody and harmony parts.
Especially on Wednesday Morning 3 AM when they trade off on literally every line.
Still listening in August 2023 in Mitchells plain Cape and I'm nearly 65 yrs old 🤘🤘🤘
Boyz, This song sounds SO much better with Garfunkel on it. Did you see him when he was off mike? He's still singing the song!
I agree! 🎼🎵🎶 👍👊👌
I love that part .. rolling up his cuffs and singing away .. so casual, relaxed .. wow!
@@SundaysChild1966 yes. ;) the music is in his DNA.
I prefer Paul Simon singing it alone
I prefer Paul singing this alone.... One of his best songs
63 years old in 2020 and I still enjoy listening to this. These guys really make it look as easy as breathing. Pure talent.
72 yrs old and still listening.
Love these two 💕 💕
74 years old in Canada. Still love them. Good for the soul. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I'm 76, and consider this the theme song for my "between" generation!
Love This Song! 💗💗💗💗
guys, is a moment! When I was a youngster it was something special, today I'm 52 and the joy is the same!
I love that Garfunkel mouths the words along with Simon when he’s having a solo moment
Heartfelt voice from Paul, so emotional
This is the song you sit on your porch and listen to on a quiet summer day.
well was just one of many songs and i was out of my brains, still like the music but dont get out of my head too much now
Song you listen to with the top down as you're gliding down the highway (not caring if you're slip sliding away, just enjoying the moment).
How adorable is Art when he looks over at his son as they sang " I know a man who had a son...." And he has that proud Papa smile as he puts his hand on his chin..it just got to me. I've always loved his unassuming stage presence ,almost a shyness until he opens his motrh and that amazing angelic voice just quietly blows you away!!!!!
lumen agnello I so agree with you about how completely adorable Art is at that moment!! 😍 I’d love to know what made both Paul and Art look over and smile right then, but it wouldn’t have been Art’s son. His first son was born in 1990, and second son in 2005. It could’ve been a photo of Paul’s son, who would’ve been around 9 at the time. (I kind of doubt he would’ve actually been there.). I bet it was something else altogether that got their attention and brought on those happy feels...
It's always been my favorite moment of this recording! So personal!
Hmm...can someone sitting by the front give an illumination to this?
Art didn't have a child until 9 years after the concert in central park. I presume it's Paul's son Harper they both take a glance towards here.
Water and oil do not mix , but Art & Paul are eternal diamonds , what a delicious mix
Garfunkel singing "slip sliding away" nice good!!!!
The nearer your destination the more you’re slip sliding away...
The harmonizing in this song is brilliant
Yep, 2022 still love them
"My love for you is so overpowering
I'm afraid that I will disappear"
I was just humming this song to myself and thought I'd look for the song on UA-cam. Found it. God only knows why!
Oh my gosh when Art smiles and bites his lip at 2:35 so so cute!
I so agree Angela Patterson, I love that. He bites his lip several times during the concert and it always gets to me, he is so darn cute.
Something about the way he bites his lip is so damn sexy!
I can imagine how it feels like.
This must be the saddest Break up in history of music. Such harmony
Best artists of the century!!
Art really is an effortlessly beautiful singer.
feenyfighter p
not any more...
This and american tune would of been major hits
Immortal
And he really had beautiful skin and eyes.
Garfunkel not only sings like an angel, he looks like one, too. What a beautiful face.
I agree! His complexion, bone structure, and those lips and eyes! So sexy!
I hope they've made peace each other at least, and still remain old childhood friends at best. 2 amazing artists.
The way Art sings the words "Slip Slidin' Away" in harmony with Pauls vocal almost gets me to a "ORGASMIC STATE of MIND... He is one of a kind!!!
This is Paul Simon's best solo hit. It sounds great with Art Garfunkel.

A song that contains one of the most brilliant verses in music.
Which one in particular? I love all the verses in this - they are all profound.
Morgellons Leicester UK.
Paul's a brilliant poet. Most of his songs are poetry.
@@coramarquez6400 amen to that

Art has an amazing voice
In a world that is no longer the world when that song was written, we can all be transported back….

I've always loved these two and wished they'd get back together.
i love SIMON and GARFUNKLE after all those years.
Gemini Gemini we are all still crazy about them, after all these years! ❤️ magnificent! xxx
Their music is TIMELESS!
Still loving you Paul I’m coming to New York next year for my 60 th and would be amazed to meet you xxx
He has a very alluring eyes.. and a soulful voice
Effortless musicianship. What a joy to witness, even though this is the saddest song in the world.
Paul Simon is such a great talent! Love all of his songs!
yes...a shy genius
2:32, They both look at something or someone and smile cheeky grins. Wow they're cute!
Maybe Harper Simon sitting in the front? Dunno if he was there, but it would've made sense for them to smile at him at that part. Especially since Paul said that line was written about Harper.
yeah and Art points and grins at paul when the father bit kicks in
I heard there were two girls in the crowd that flashed their tits at them.. artie was really embarrassed. Lol. As far as I remember artie said it in an interview.
@@fino2604 I was thinking the very same thing! lol Wish I could find that interview to see how Art describes it.
He came a long way just to explain... kissed his boy as he lay sleeping then turned around and headed home again.
F*cking Profound. The words we think could "explain" anything just don't exist, and whoever we try to explain to - they wouldn't hear it anyway.
I was there in Central Park that day in 1981, my park in my city, among thousands of people feeling S&G live on stage, while simultaneously being completely alone. 40 damn years later have the same perspective on the world I did at 17 on that intense day, absorbing lyrics like these that illustrate the human condition that is unexplainable.
They're voices are unique !
Paul Simon for me...is a CRACK...so humble and so good, sensible, etc etc
It seems Art asks Paul at the beginning if they sing it together, and Paul says yes with a bit of a moking face :)) Artie is so sweet and respectful always with Paul, to the point he even seems shy about singing his songs. Paul could have agreed on doing some of Art's songs as well, though. :) anyways, the greatest couple in modern (or pop or folk or call it whatever) music, and two lovely souls:)
"He came a long way just to explain
He kissed his boy as he lay sleeping
Then he turned around and he headed home again"
As a father I think about my 2 sons and the highs and lows we've had over the years. The thought of getting to this point with either of them frightens me more than I can express. This song reminds us of what is truly important (and what is not).
You can feel the hurt in those lines
They should be called Egos and Insecurities.
Best version of this song btw
A sond writer once explained to me that many songs are about life. the writer doesn't always agree but sings about what he sees in life.
Art "king of the cheeky smile" Garfunkel :)
Paul Simon 🙏🙏
2:35 art looks so cute!!!!
I m from france
Im french and since my 16 i loved listen to Simon and garfunkel.
Today i m 56
Art has such a beautiful simple singing style and a timeless voice. I only wish more people appreciate that but instead there are many Art haters who feel that Simon carried the entire duo without any help at all. I think that is a shame
I agree.
@@debrakish9659 there’s a lot of Art fans who just slag Paul off all the time.. I mean stalk his fan sites and just criticise him all the time. Fact being Paul was the genius songwriter and musician - Arts voice was just another musical instrument he used….
I feel sad and happy listening to this concert. Sad that they weren't in my radar all these years, and happy that I've found them. It's an honour!
i cannot describe the voice of art... it's such a sweat and angelic voice, intelligent and also powerfull
Alliteration is always catchy. Simon is one of the best lyricists around.
this song is beautiful
Absolute Legend of a Song from a Legendary Duo .
This is a song! A real song! Beautiful! Can't believe I forgot about this song.
He said, "Delores, I live in fear. My love for you is so overpowering I'm afraid that I will disappear."
I'll bet this is the only song ever written to have the woman's name Delores in it. lol
@@debrakish9659 Lol. Maybe! Who knows. The way the song is written makes it sound like the most attractive name ever.
It has something to do with rhyme: Dolores, fear, disappear.😊
There is no doubt they the are the best duo of all time. Part of my daily indulgence is to watch S&G over and over specially this one.
I saw S&G in 1968, I was in seventh grade and went with my big brother and his friend to the Colosseum in Indianapolis. The master of ceremonies was Dustin Hoffman, He came out first and promoted the motion picture “the graduate” and told some jokes. I didn’t even know who he was at the time, however in the middle of the concert someone threw a cherry bomb on the stage and it boomed like an explosion!! The lights came on we were in the nosebleed section, Simon and Garfunkel left the stage, and several people left believing the concert was over. In the meanwhile, my brother and I with our friend moved to the front of the stage, a little over an hour later Simon and Garfunkel came back out and played for three hours!! I have been introduced to Simon and Garfunkel back in 1965 when my aunt bought my brother and me, the parsley sage rosemary and thyme album, and the sounds of silence album, she didn’t know the gold she was handing us. I’m thankful to my aunt to this day
These two Iconic persons shaped music for you that you will never know..............perfection!
They for sure did. Their music appealed to our hearts in a way hardly any other could come forth with in the time. There is/was a realism with the lyrics that dealt with real life, not escaping it like so many other songs of the era.
He wore his passion for his woman like a thorny crown......
Paul Simon è una delle cose più belle della mia vita.
Sheer artistry, two talented souls who could make you forget this troubled world x
If only the music of today was like this. I have always loved Simon and Garfunkel. One my husband and I both loved.
What extraordinarily beautiful eyes Mr. Garfunkel had (has!)
One might say bright eyes.
His has always these beautiful blue eyes and he is so lovely!!!

I'm so in love with his eyes.... 😍

This song has such a funereal aspect to it. Since its peak popularity in the Fall of 1977 forty years have passed-and passed quickly! Slip sliding away...
To sing together like one, to look so young and handsome, to be so concentrated and modest in making their beautiful tunes... They tear me apart, really!
One of the few times Paul is singing the high part.
Yes Sir. 68 years old now.
They are pure magic .. still ..
Song is just so special even today
Slip slìdin' away, Slip slidin ' away, you know the nearer your destination, The more you Slip slidin' away, !!! The best harmonious dou😊 who understands the principles of life 😊 Thank you Good Luck!!!!
to be able to sing in harmony such as this duo does sorta blows my mind.... able to stay in the right key why they have a fifteen plus piece band backing them up is remarkable

William Owsley exactly.
American Tune is a Paul Simon song from the album There goes Rhymin Simon... recorded by Paul Simon nobody is working with him... it's a solo album not a paired album
