he looks like a retool of POTP punch/counterpunch. so that might explain some of the weirdness of the figure, since the original mold was a deluxe that was technically a quadruple changer with 2 robot modes.
One thing I'd say about that targetmaster that I'm surprised you didn't say yourself is this: It feels like a baby could transform it completely by accident and not even realize they did something.
Is it just me or is this figure like a reverse of Skullgrin? Whereas Skullgrin had a good-looking robot mode and a crappy vehicle mode, Pointblank has a bad-looking robot mode but a fairly cool looking vehicle mode. Like… it’s just kinda weird because not only do they both have this issue of one mode being bad and the other good, but they’re also both deluxe figures, they’re both G1 characters and they’re also from the same era of G1 too, that being the 1987-89 post Movie era where we just got lots of different concepts and ideas like the Headmasters, Targtmasters, Powermasters, Pretenders etc. Just something I’ve noticed about this pair.
A relative just got it, and I saw how much they cut due to "being too costly", the 2nd engine weapon (hence the "tailbone" he's got), the swiveling hand for the Headmasters style of Targetmasters (that's what the handle on the back WAS for), hollowing out the Targetmaster's whole body, etc. (all these were on the prototype). I hope more people wake up to Hasbro's insane corner cutting and excuses.
HasTak: "So let's make these small and fun little Targetmasters with ball jointed arms and legs with fun blast effects!" Also HasTak: "Legacy Pointblank's coming out? Give him a unused G1 Targetmaster design for the Targetmaster!"
I mean it would have cost them nothing to include one of those Siege targetmasters in the right colors, or even reuse the ones from the Generations Scoop figure for Needlenose. That would have been better than the no-effort they put into this TM figure!
I was thinking of getting this figure, I looked at it for a while and thought "yeah this looks good," and then I saw that he doesn't have bicep swivels. I don't think a single deluxe class figure over the last 5 years has not had bicep swivels. The reason why that one bit hangs down from his crotch and the reason why they didn't give him wrist articulation was cause of budgeting done to make sure he got his target master, he had the little crotch part come off and turn into an exhaust blaster but when they were told they couldn't do that so they decided to just make it part of the crotch mold and not change it. Legacy's recently weird qc is likely a result of factory changes or them putting more money into developing the figures for rise of the beasts (judging by the fact two seperate deluxe airrazors were leaked recently).
This is such a weird toy. I genuinely don’t know what they were thinking. If this wasn’t dropping right before Christmas I know this thing would be a shelf warmer. Even ERcee sold out before Christmas.
"Im sure theres something I would enjoy in [Japanese Transformers]" Perspective, I think I found my new mission statement. Also. Wrist swivels. They were originally in rhe design but got cut for budget. Same thing happened with the targetmaster. They didnt want to release it seprately because of the failure of micromasters. We got a Crosshairs and a Pointblank, now all we need is a Sureshot to complete the Targetmaster team. Also, did you know that Misfire appeared in the animei along with Pointblank?
I got point-blank anonymously gifted to me today from amazon. I don't know if it is a bonus from one of the other legacy figures I ordered but I won't say no to getting him for free despite his problems!
It does look so much like a toy design held back from an earlier TF Era. I might've thought around 2004/2005 myself, but it may not be heavy/sturdy enough for that.
I actually considered getting this figure to disassemble it and melt those teal parts and make Bionicle pieces from them. Then, I got a large bag of lego technic teal parts which weight even more than the figure and cost 1/5th of it's price.
Great review PerspectiveEnd!! I have to admit I enjoy Pointblank, especially how tall he is and standing him besides Siege Crosshairs. Please forgive me, but in my review I said that Pointblank was my favorite deluxe figure from wave 3 of Legacy. LOL :D I think its fun that we have opposite opinions about Pointblank. lol :D Keep on being amazing.
I was actually excited for this guy, we had gotten Crosshairs in Siege and when I heard Pointblank was coming from the listings I was like “oh sweet they’re gonna do the full Autobot targetmaster team! I’ll go ahead and go back and grab Crosshairs when I can” and then when Pointblank was revealed I was so disappointed I haven’t even gone back and grabbed Crosshairs even knowing he’s not that bad.
Yeah, it's really unfortunate. Like it didn't have to be this bad, they just got ULTRA lazy with it. Some people are saying how this would have been better as a Voyager, but it's not even as complex as a normal deluxe. It's just phoned in.
3:55 fun fact, the Producer of Kiss Players stated that the series was intended to 'shock' TF Fans. Because what can be more shocking than borderline illegal material?
And I thought you were one of the few who wanted the most accurate physical manifestations of characters, CONSIDERING that the head is accurate to his American/Rebirth [head] design.
And I guess the only reason the crotch has the odd backside is to mold in an engine detail easter egg (at least I think it looks like an engine), due to the lack of a winged engine piece (though to be fair, I think that the car mode would be better without it with those wings sticking out). I think that homage is more noticeable in vehicle mode.
Well I just hope you like it when you get it in hand. I mean this is only semi accurate to that head, it was an ugly head in the first place and the body isn't very accurate. That's a lot of material to get through to hopefully find something I like. I tried shoving the gun all over that section and couldn't find a way for it to go in.
Yeah, about the articulation, apparently they were forced to remove both wrist and bicep swivels for the sake of including the target master. And at this point, they should probably just make them core class target masters, because I’d rather pay 12$ for something that requires extra effort instead of a sucky robot mode and an even suckier target master. And the crotch was supposed to be covered by a shield accessory in vehicle mode, but again TORGEHT MASTUR!!!

Anyone remember how Hasbro named him Blanker when photos of his robot mode was reveal. I think it was during SDCC 2022. But a few months later they revealed his name as Pointblank on a fanstream. Anyone else remember that? Anyways. I like Pointblank as a character. His Legacy figure, is 50/50. Hasbro should have used the battle master gun mold from Siege for Pacemaker.
The QC and problems are making me very worried for future figures. (Oh please let inferno, tiger hawk and silverbolt be good figures. If you have inferno, is he at least a tolerable figure?)
I just want to leave this extremely important comment pointing out a simply vital aspect of this figure that you missed, without of course, watching the rest of the video to see if you noticed and correct yourself. Thanks for the content.
If Hasbro uses this mold for an Armada Blurr in the future... It would be the only Armada figure I would 100% not want, that is if they dont mess up another one. Granted they might be able to retool some problems away but it's just better off with a new mold.
when this was leaked I was considering buying him. then they put the American head on him and were reminded why I'm not completing my season 3 + 4 collection.
@@PerspectiveEnd oh shoot, I was planning on getting him for a friend of mine. He is a big Armada nut, and he really wanted this new starscream to compare to both the thrilling 30 and the OG toy :(
I'm fairly sure you are correct about that. It's borderline impossible to keep these on, and when I got mine they were mounted on the wrong sides, so I dare say Lavvi accidentally knocked them off and swapped them.
Not surprised one bit, who wants to bet that the forearms were designed like that because they were making Armada Blurr, and the higher ups forced it into Pointblank?
Looks like the designer focused on the vehicle and transformation and didn’t care about how the robot mode looked in the end at all. The TargetMaster is weirdly a faithful recreation of the vintage one, down to it being a literal brick. The only notable difference is that there’s a bit more paint on it. Not sure why they went with that method, as it kinda makes it stick out like a sore thumb with the BattleMasters.
Apparently this toy got shafted hard because of the Targetmaster. Like in the grey model, it had much better arms with actual wrists and such. Personally, I would've rathered him not have it if it meant the base figure would be better.
@@PerspectiveEnd Oh I'm not saying I agree with it, the Targetmaster does suck. Just that that's the BTS reason why the figure was shafted as hard as it was. It's apparently even why Needlenose looks kind of odd since he's got two of them.
I've may have said this before but his back looks like it's been skinned off with a flensing knife or Optimus prime's enegon blades. Holy shit he castrated Pointblanker LOL
I agree about how bad this figure is. As soon as I found out how limited the arms were I relegated this one straight to the shelf. I get shudders sometimes thinking about it. I hope a better one comes along. Not one that has minor remolding to look like what we want, actual reworking from the ground up.
At first I didn't see the flaws cuz I like the bulky design, but then you showed the back and now I understand. The shoulders still don't bother me that much, but then again I grew up watching Cybertron and those designed have similar massive shoulders made of car parts so that's prob why it doesn't bother me
So to explain about the “sword peg” that actually has to do with the Headmasters anime concept of the Targetmasters - the Targetmasters were actually fused into their hands (kinda like Shockwave’s gun arm or the Movie/Prime “flip out weapons, except they can’t flip their fist back out) Now idk if he actually has the ability to flip away his fist and peg in the Targetmaster (like Universe 2.0 Cyclonus could) but it seems really stupid if they didn’t give him that capability. But yea I might get this just to have 2/3 Autobot Targetmasters until we get a better one, but dang it Hasbro! Put more effort in!
He does not have the ability to flip away his fists at all they are stuck in the outward position, with no rotation. So that's a weird pull to give the figure.
@@PerspectiveEnd that’s really weird then that they gave him the peg for becoming the gun hand… honestly if this needed to be Voyager to give us a good figure + Targetmaster I would have paid that
@@PerspectiveEnd It's kind of a no-brainer figure. Make the G1 figure, but with knees, hips, ankle and neck articulation. If you don't want to spend money on the Targetmaster, reuse a Battlemaster tool, or the target master that came with Universe 2.0 Cyclonus (still hasn't been topped). Nope, just make everything low effort and don't include the other accessory that was pretty important to include with him. ARG!
You know they probably have more power of the primes toys unreleased remember the fan vote on the next prime they probably have figures for a lot of characters
Pointblank is easily the coolest looking character in Headmasters. How they managed to eff him up this badly is beyond me. He's got one of the coolest looking heads of any Autobot, and they couldn't even get that right. And those wide birthing hips. And that Targetmaster straight up works identically to the 1987 Targetmasters, it's just made of cheaper plastic. Why even bother at that point? Just give him a regular gun and sell me a core class Targetmaster that actually has some articulation and doesn't look like a cheap knock off of a 35 year old toy. The coolest Targetmaster, and one of the coolest toys out of the 1987 line up, and the first time he gets a figure in 35 years is a complete botch job. Man this Legacy wave has been rough. So rough it's got me wondering if I want to continue collecting Generations at all, or should just focus solely on 3P from now on. The quality just isn't there anymore.
He sure as hell looks a lot cooler in the anime then he does in the plastic, or the G1 show. Yeah apparently they kept slashing the budget for this thing.
I am laughing because characters are being changed to be more 'G1' like Bulkhead, but I feel like even G1 characters just need overhauls in design at this point Man. What, 2, 3 years ago we had actually ok target masters and now we get This?! Fuck that

@@PerspectiveEnd Oh I'm not saying I agree with it, the Targetmaster does suck. Just that that's the BTS reason why the figure was shafted as hard as it was. It's apparently even why Needlenose looks kind of odd since he's got two of them.
Im going to facepalm myself if this is the base mold for armada blurr. If that would be the case, hopefully it would be a heavy remold.
Yeah, hopefully they do something very different than this for that thing.
I've may have said this before but his back looks like it's been skinned off with a flensing knife or Optimus prime's enegon blades.
Holy shit he castrated Pointblanker LOL
You have not said that before and it is quite apt.
I agree about how bad this figure is. As soon as I found out how limited the arms were I relegated this one straight to the shelf. I get shudders sometimes thinking about it. I hope a better one comes along. Not one that has minor remolding to look like what we want, actual reworking from the ground up.
Yeah, I can't believe they thought this was ready for prime time. It's so bad.
Cliffjumper- "Could it be? Something that's actually worse than me? Maybe I'll finally stop getting beaten-
7:13
Cliffjumper- "Goddammit..."
I should have probably hit both of them in this one.
The only thing this guy has going for him is the colors
Indeed, it's the only thing making him interesting looking.
Late 10k surprise. 10k celebration when
Thank you very much, and at this rate 10K looks like it will be coming Christmas day.
At first I didn't see the flaws cuz I like the bulky design, but then you showed the back and now I understand. The shoulders still don't bother me that much, but then again I grew up watching Cybertron and those designed have similar massive shoulders made of car parts so that's prob why it doesn't bother me
Well it's not the shoulders that bother me, the spikes can be fine, it's just that the arms hang away from the body.
@@PerspectiveEnd I totally get that
So to explain about the “sword peg” that actually has to do with the Headmasters anime concept of the Targetmasters - the Targetmasters were actually fused into their hands (kinda like Shockwave’s gun arm or the Movie/Prime “flip out weapons, except they can’t flip their fist back out) Now idk if he actually has the ability to flip away his fist and peg in the Targetmaster (like Universe 2.0 Cyclonus could) but it seems really stupid if they didn’t give him that capability.
But yea I might get this just to have 2/3 Autobot Targetmasters until we get a better one, but dang it Hasbro! Put more effort in!
He does not have the ability to flip away his fists at all they are stuck in the outward position, with no rotation. So that's a weird pull to give the figure.
@@PerspectiveEnd that’s really weird then that they gave him the peg for becoming the gun hand… honestly if this needed to be Voyager to give us a good figure + Targetmaster I would have paid that
3:32 The odds of perspective openly admitting a single good thing about Japan designs is approximately 3720 to 1.
Never tell me the odds.
Why does this thing feel like it was made In a day then mass produced
I don't know because they announced it for ever ago, and yet it still looks like this.
They should have packed the Toy/Anime head as a swappable head because they already cheeped out on John Cena.
That would have been a good decision because let me tell you this thing doesn't justify it's existence otherwise.
Why does Pointblank look like a guy who shouldn't be allowed within 500 yards of a school
He does look like a pervert yeah.
You know I kinda wanted this and might of picked it up when I saw it in shelves but thank you for saving my money haha
I know the call of the hunt is intense, but just save your money.
The G1 figure had wrist articulation!
That's amazing, Worse than G1. Ouch.
ARG!
I can see this figure being retooled into Armada Blurr.
Lot of people can.
0:00 the sad part is *we live in a society* someone might actually be into that
What do you mean?
I wouldn’t worry about it ha
Hopefully evolution will be better, and i can already see the title for the legacy retrospective “ It progressed like cancer”
I don't think of it that way. It progressed like a Car Crash. It was going great till suddenly it exploded.
You need to see the glory of beast wars neo gigastorm!
That's just Trypticon.
@@PerspectiveEnd yeah! With leopard print and a big ass predacon badge! Does trypticon have that? no.
I was originally going to get this to go with Crosshairs, but after seeing the images for this guy I think I'll just save for something else.
Yeah not worth. Save your money.
I really do think that if this guy was an ss86 ironhide style voyager couldve made him so much better
It didn't need to be a Voyager for it to not suck. The problem is they didn't put Deluxe quality into this deluxe class.
It’s sad. Even Point Blank Hasbro will miss the mark.
HAAAA I see what you did there.
Can’t believe I bought this yesterday. Haven’t even opened it yet but after seeing this video I’m not sure if I want to
If you do I hope you like it, but you would still be able to return it at this point.
I’ll buy the remold with the Japanese head and Armada Blurr. As for the targetmaster, the lone offerings didn’t sell, despite being better
I mean if they make those, but let's just hope they don't because they will suck too based on this mold.
@@PerspectiveEnd well, I want them
This could've look good if they just retooled the Punch/Counterpunch mold.
Agreed.
Ya know after laser prime I’m done with buying figures that have giant shoulders that make the arms not move up, this included
I mean the arms can kind of move up, but yeah, hasbro needs to get their should game up to par.
i actually like the way it looks
Well I hope you like the figure then.
I am not done watching but I know this is gonna be great:
Hope it lived up to your expectation.
@@PerspectiveEnd as usual, it exceeded it.
You know they probably have more power of the primes toys unreleased remember the fan vote on the next prime they probably have figures for a lot of characters
Arcee, Megatron, Shockwave, Ultra Magnus, and I can't remember who the others were
You know what I had kind of forgotten that a little.
Cool review. I hope my boy Dead end will be better.
Deadend is for sure better.
3:56 OATH, OAAAAATH!
Never heard that response before, but indeed.
No wonder percepter never mentioned his little brother
What is this about him being Perceptors Brother.
I am laughing because characters are being changed to be more 'G1' like Bulkhead, but I feel like even G1 characters just need overhauls in design at this point
Man. What, 2, 3 years ago we had actually ok target masters and now we get This?! Fuck that
I mean this doesn't look like the G1 character all that much. Proportions on him are Fucked.
I can’t understand there people who actually like him, much less Doctor Lockdown(He bought gap fillers for him).
I don't know if Dr Lockdown actually likes this figure, or if he just doesn't share my sentiment of only upgrading good things.
