Exodus is the OG Thrash band from the Bay Area. Kirk from Metallica is one of the founding members of Exodus.

Mixing the speed of punk with metal was exactly what became known as thrash.

@@metaphoria3 yes, he also founded the band. And his departure to join Metallica was one of the reasons why this album came out later. If it had come out earlier, it would most probably have been there along with Kill Em All as the album that defined thrash metal. 🤘🏻
@@9Jak1 When Metallica first hit the road to NY, they had fired Dave Mustaine on their drive out there because he was too much of an alcoholic for James, Lars and Cliff (Cliff also recently joined the band after convincing the others to move to the Bay area because he wouldn't move to LA and they wanted him so bad because he was one of a kind bassist) so they knew of Kirk from Exodus because of their manager or someone. Kirk flew out to NY on his own dollar with all his gear to play with the band and he stuck.

Kirk Hammett was originally in Exodus when they were starting, before he joined Metallica. He and their original members were getting drunk way back in the early 80s and got the idea to "immortalize" their connection to one another by cutting their hands with a razor and rubbing the blood together. Shortly after they came up with the song "Bonded By Blood" and the rest is metal history 🤘

Hey! Thanks for reacting to this song! Other people beat me to it, but yes, this is early Thrash Metal. If you listen to stuff off of Metallica, Slayer or Megadeth’s first albums, you’ll hear the similarities.
This is Punk Rock aggression mixed with Power Metal technicality.
This particular song is about the violence of the mosh pits that the song switches back and forth from the metaphor of black magic ritual to the literal ritual of headbanging and thrashing so hard that you make each other bleed and are... bonded by blood.
Exodus’ lead guitarist and core member, Gary Holt, played with Slayer for the last 9 years, sometimes doing shows where he played with both bands on the same show.
And yes, Kirk Hammett was with Exodus before being recruited by Metallica. Exodus never made it really big, but are respected in the metal community for remaining tru to their roots. They still play and write albums. Other songs you could do are Fabulous Disaster, Pleasures of the Flesh, Impact is Imminent, War is my Shepherd, Strike of the Beast (Do the remastered version. Much higher production value. I should have said that with Bonded by Blood too), Blood In, Blood Out (I’m in that video), Dethamphetamine.
Note that Exodus has had three singers. The singer for Bonded by Blood, Paul Baloff, was only on that album. He’s deceased.
Another criminally unappreciated band that often gets left out because they’re not part of the “Big Four” is Testament. I’ll request a song by them on Pateon.

NWOBHM = “New wave of British heavy metal” is what you are referring to which influenced the likes of Metallica etc which included Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Saxon etc

NO, Exodus was not before thrash but were in the thick of the Bay area thrash scene, mid 80s. After, and inspired by the NWOBHM. They are in the same genre as their contemporaries Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, and Overkill. Listen to Metallica's first album Kill Em All and it sounds a lot like this.

You are correct. Basically thrash took the aggression attitude speed and drum beats from hardcore punk rock and mixed it with the riffs and other elements of metal to invent thrash. Bands like Slayer progressed this by turning the basic kick snare kick snare beat into continuous kicks AKA double bass beats. You should react to some old school hardcore punk so you can understand the lineage from punk to thrash. The accused, cryptic slaughter, so many more I could name but you should check out. also check out the documentary "metal a head bangers journey" it really breaks all this down.
Exodus is diggity dank. I never even heard of them until this year. Their Atrocity Exhibition album kicks ass.

Exodus is a Thrash band out of California that started out same time as Metallica... they would do shows together.... Black Sabbath, Deep Purple (Early 70's) original heavy metal... late 70's early 80's is "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" like Maiden, Priest, Saxon and Motorhead... Thrash started early 80's in America and derives from Heavy Metal, just a faster tempo, lol. Metallica, Overkill, Megadeth, Anthrax, Exodus and Slayer are early Thrash.

It's a I'm gonna say like hill billy, one sting bass, bango cover with a southern twang to the vocals. It's made by exodus but it's a friggen great take on this song

Actually Exodus was one of the bands to be the very first in the thrash genre. they are not part of the first or second wave of British heavy metal or basic heavy metal. They are thrash.you should really check out the documentary, "metal: a headbanger's journey", by banger tv. It really breaks down with charts and everything the evolution from Rock to metal to extreme metal etc.
check out Eyes Wide Shut - Black Clover. They are basically the new In Flames and not many have reacted to it even though it is an INCREDIBLE song by one hell of a band.

Guys, I hope you feel like expanding your knowledge of music even more. There are so many incredible albums released from all over the world, but so many of them never gets the attention they deserve. In another comment
I made on another video I recommended you get to know Marillion, the albums where Fish is vocalist.
Now, I will recommend some other amazing albums. These are albums music lovers absolutely should experience. First I will mention 3 albums from the Norwegian group Bel Canto. Albums: Shimmering, Warm and bright / Birds of Passage / White Out Conditions.
Those leads me to Biosphere, who once was a member of Bel Canto. Albums: Patashnik / Substrata.
Then of course you know of Vangelis, right? Always amazing and the album I most often end up playing is The City.
These are beautiful, haunting albums that relaxes you and pulls you into another world.
This is not rock or casual pop. These albums are unique, and I think you might enjoy them, or at least apreciate knowing of them, Dim the lights, relax and listen. Vangelis-The City should be listened to as one long piece.
You hit on the understanding part at the end, the complexity and layering of music has increased and you have to develop an ear for it to get it. My mom was of that generation of satanic panic parents and she said she had to develop her ability to process more complex music before she could get into Jay-Z because the music of her childhood and young adulthood had a 4 track recording or less, not like the 16+ that music is being made with now.
Exodus IS Thrash... In fact if you look at the so-called “Big 4”, Exodus actually started (with Kirk Hammett) before all of those bands. They get mad love in the community. But people making money on ticket sales choose the most commercially recognizable names and give them a flashy titled... Exodus are the true Godfathers of Thrash.
Gotta check out another of theirs "War is My Shepherd"
The albums "Pleasures of the Flesh" and "Fabulous Disaster" are awesome albums. More refined. Not as raw. Better produced. Easier listens. But still awesome thrash metal.
Next I recommend piranha or No love, more amazing evil riffs and solos.
