Orient Bambino Killer! - Finally, The Perfect 38mm Alternative?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 вер 2024
- In this video, I showcase a new Orient Bambino alternative that is sure to be an Orient Bambino killer for small wrists, at just over 38mm. This one also features improved specifications including sapphire crystal and more water resistance. Given the sizing, this could oust the 5s as the best smaller men's dress watch. The full code for this model is FAG03001D0.

Apparently there is a certain brand named Enzo Attini. Their design language is very similar to Filippo Loreti's. But do they replicate that hilarious meme of a 10 year warranty tho? 🤔
I love how you cover affordable watches Ben but I think its time you eviscerated the "mid range" brands. You know, the ones that are Swiss Made(TM)/"American Made" but cost 600 quid for equivalent finishing to a 200 quid Orient.
This is my way of saying the time has come. It is your duty. It is your destiny.
The public eviscerated of Shinola is at hand. Do it Ben, in deep dive form like you did for Filippo Loretti. You have the detective skills of Arkady Renko and the humour of an internet shitposter. It's time to take down Shinola.
Also Movado and/or Nixon. I remember meeting people buying $800 Nixon for $550 and thinking they got a deal. Smh, problem is they're pure fashion watches so the biz model is clear unlike Shinola which artificially complicates manufacturing to piggyback off nostalgiam
What about the orient maestro they make them quartz and automatic
Timex Pacman but Jody already covered it, although he never mentioned the theme tune that comes from it
Hello there! Any good shops in the EU that you can recommend?
bro this video is gonna skyrocket the price
Blue dial is out of stock already 😔
They are no more in stock.......
I have no words...
(At least the blue dial variant. Of course the one I loved)
Last year those were as low as $145! I got 2 for less than $300 using promo codes online. One at Jomashop and the second on Ebay.
The watch youtuber tax
He really is getting so good at this now.
Good find. We need more 36 to 38mm watches
Would have love it to be 36 but being a slight cushion case with a smaller dial gives it a sporty feel
Gaaaaaaaaaaaay
I have an Orient Star Classic (white dial, blue hands, power reserve indicator) which also comes in at 38mm. It was more expensive than this but it's absolutely one of my favorite watches. I'm a huge fan of Orient. As Seiko creeps upward in price, let's hope Orient keeps making affordable gems.
Agree, shame that orient star classic has mineral crystal...
I honestly can't figure out Orient lol they have some of the absolute best features you can get for the price.. Their watches look as good or better than some Seiko watches and still manage to be cheaper and include a sapphire crystal. Orient is my go-to for gifts for new watch collectors
The QC is terrible though, the dial has a huge hole in it.
It’s a glory hole

😂
Lol
But I kinda like it though😁
I've owned this watch since before x-mas last year and it's excellent. Looks better in real life than even in this video. I'm very happy with it but I do have a few small gripes, chief among them is that there is no day-glo of any kind and there is very little contrast between the hands and dial making it very hard to make out in low light conditions. I have the white clock face and this problem may be smaller with the blue one. That said, great watch and I do recommend it.
Its no spaghetti scametti, but still a nice watch. 40mm is kind of my perfect size, so I like the bambino, but I also really like the Maestro. It’s nice that there’s a smaller alternative though.
Don't menstion Spagethi Scametti. I asked the best juwelers. But they can't deliver. It's too exclusive. Too high end.
While I'm not a fan of open heart watches, this one looks amazing as a whole. If I was new in the game, I'd instantly jump on it.
Same as you I'm not usually into open heart watches but I've got to admit this piece is actually quite stunning. Shout out to Orient, always looking out for their new models im never disappointed.
Was browsing Jomashop yesterday and ordered this exact watch, about 12 hours before this video went live! It looks awesome! Glad to have Ben's stamp of approval :P The model is called the "Golden Eye 2" and some other stores have a white variant, and black with gold accents.
I like how anchor fork is clearly visible. Usually it is mostly hidden even in sceletonized watch. For me watching escapement working is very satisfactory.
Finally a review of a watch I bought before it got mainstream! I got this model in early 2019, after comparing it with many others. Got it from Jomashop though Amazon, and paid $130ish. For the price is way better value than a Bambino, with sapphire crystal. The movement may not be the prettiest, but it works very well, and I would say the hand winding feels better than a Swiss made ETA I own. The size is great for my 15.5cm wrist, lug-to-lug is only 43mm, and it looks great on a teju lizard strap. It takes a little to get used to the open heat, but soon one learns to appreciate that feature.
Возможно первый тут русскоязычный комментатор , и скажу за эти часики то что за эти деньги это довольно неплохо, учитывая то что это японская механика и ещё сапфировое стекло
A great watch indeed. As for the "funny" reference number, the watch may be sold as FAG03001D or just AG03001D. They're the same watch. The "F" is - from what I have read - a factory code. "AG" indicates the movement, which is the same as the second generation Orient Esteem, the reference codes of which also start with (F)AG. "03" indicates the case, "001" indicates dial, hands and band, and "D" indicated dial colour. "D" stands for blue for some reason, "B" for black, and "W" for white or silver(ish). Letters or digits after the D/B/W (or whatever colour it is) are distributor codes, and not part of the reference "proper".
B was already taken by "Black" so they had to use the next best letter that looks like a B, which is D. That's my guess.
That watch looks fantastic on that tan leather strap! Overall, it's a beautiful watch. I love Orient.
What size strap did you get?
I just recently got my hands on a 36mm white/gold bambino. Absolutely love it.
This is an exceptionally well made piece which came out some years ago but I reckon quite rare at this price range for Orient. I would say this is almost Orient Star quality.
Nice! If they now would skip the open heart, put some lume on hands and markers and improve the water resistance, this could even be an affordable contender for the upcoming (and quite expensive) Seiko Laurel Alpinist revival watches (for example the Seiko SPB243). But since Orient is part of Seiko, they never would do that. But for THAT money, this dresser still is a great find! Thanks!
I bought a similar watch from Orient: FDB05001D
It has a sapphire crystal and has an open window to the stem that changes the time. It's not as clean but it's around the same dimensions: 38mm and 20mm lug width.
It’s a fantastic watch. I just got the black dial with gold markers and hands. A stunning contrast!
Where did you buy it from

Another great review, thank you. Overall it looks nice. One thing, for me they could have done without that fairly wide bright trim ring surrounding the Open Heart. A very fine trim ring or none would have been better I think.
Hey man i recently stumbled upon your videos and from there i bacame obsessed, love the channel, love the watches, keep up the good work man.
Welcome aboard!
Looks amazing on that light brown leather strap. I like this watch a lot.
What size strap did you get?
Finally! I couldn't believe no one was talking about this!! I got two Blue and Black 🤣🤣🤣
in the entylevel market, nobody makes more beautyfull dials then orient. i don't like open heart watches, but the sunburst effect and the markers looks great
I really like the open heart and the overall looks of the watch! In fact I even bought an Orient Star which also has an open heart. Astounding quality and attention to details by Orient!
I have a Seiko open heart dress watch with the 4r39a movement and a white dial.
Hacking and handwinding, 39mm and a 24hour sub hand.
Flat Hardlex though, and I scratched it badly in the first few weeks.
It was given to me by my children for my 70th birthday. I had the crystal replaced and I only it wear it for best. I love that my children bought it fot me. It's one of my top 3 watches.
I usually wear my 38mm Seagull 1963 with its beautiful dial and domed sapphire chrstal.
I wear it all the time on a Rios brown leather strap. My favourite all round watch that I can time the devopement of my black and white films, and for boiling my eggs.
I had an Orient Bambino 41mm, always looked too big which I never understood and had a domed mineral crystal.
It was a beautiful blue, but I sold it before I scratched it.
I wear a 44mm Sea-gull Ocean Star diver which suits my seven and a quarter inch wrist perfectly.
The watch I wear if I am working on ponds as I am a landscape designer.
Maybe I am wrong but I’ve seen actaully two types from this model. The zero at the end of the model number stands for mineral glass, the one without zero, has sapphire crystal. The price gap between the two, makes quite a difference, (100 euro difference at the local e-store) but I think the sapphire crystal worth the money for such a nice watch.
I don't think that's correct
If they got rid of the “open heart” I’d buy one ☝️
I agree. Each to their own but I think the 'open heart' look is hideous.
really? I dig
it.
Hmmm, I think it looks great
Not a fan of open heart watches myself but this one is pure class.
I agree. Looks distracting and takes away from that nice blue sunburst dial.
This looks good. Like you I have small wrists that is one of the reasons why I buy vintage Omegas. Another reason is that over 70 years
later it looks great and runs great!
Well look at that, it's totally a clone of the open heart "golden eagle" CDB05001B from a few years ago right down to the flat sapphire. It was one of my first real watches and I absolutely love it and still wear it often. Just the right size, dressy enough, open heart gets some attention without being too over the top.
Thanks for the video, I recently sold mine, it's a beautiful watch.
I got a matching nato strap on it to dress it down & make it more comfortable. It ticks a lot of boxes for an entry level watch, it's way better than a bambino imo.
Once again,Orient is making the right move. I smell a huge succes coming, mainly after this video. As always,a Very good Review. Congratulations.
Great review buddy. The only reason I've never had an orient is down to their sizes. This might be one for my list. I've never been completely sure about OH watches because it's such a big distraction on the disk, but I've always had a weird fascination about them as I've had a couple of open heart surgeries over the years (top smarts 🤣). Will definitely be checking this out.
Thank you Ben, ordered this one yesterday as my first mechanical watches.
I have the Orient Star "equivalent" of this open heart. It's a bit larger, but it's a gorgeous watch.
Blue is already out of stock!! Beautiful watch. I'll keep my eye on it. I'm especially a lover of the fact that I can swap to a leather strap
I have had this exact watch for about 6 months now. I’m in love with it lmao
Just got this watch today! Thank you Ben you're review was spot on!!!
From where did you buy this? I am planning to buy this one and it's out of stock everywhere in USA...
@@YatharthVaishnani I got it from innovationgroup.asia, they still have some in stock check it out
Great video, Ben. Thanks for sharing yout thoughts. I like 1 - the brand 2- the size 3- the fact that it has no date complication 4- the way it looks with a leather strap 5 the sapphire crystal 6- it is an automatic!!. My only problem is the "open heart". Why isn't Orient making basic watches without funny gimmicks? Why Seiko only has no-date automatic watches at the highest price points?
Yes please. I want this now. My old Inex is too bulky, and would love to upgrade to a sapphire crystal and an automatic movement.
Why do some people dislike Orient's logo? I think it looks badass, and quite classy
Open heart with off/white dial would look luxurious!
The flat crystal kills it for me. Half the charm with the Bambinos is the doomed "vintage feel" glass.
True, but it's sapphire, so there's a trade off there.
@@randomhandle Good point.
My generation 2 Bambino was the last mechanical watch I ever bought, some 8 years ago or so. It's nearly a perfect watch for people with that 1920-1950's art deco feel. Ridiculously, it's on a cloth velcro Timex band which shouldn't work, but it looks just fine.
Beautiful watch for sure. I'm a huge Orient fan and own a number of them. However, having Fred Flintstone sized wrists I often times have to take a pass on these tiny watches. It's a shame this didn't come in a 42mm I'd buy one for sure. Great video. I enjoyed viewing it.
Nice looking watch, all the better for not having a date (hurrah!) Cheers mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Totally agree, so many watches would be better without the date. I never bother setting mine
@@AdeyBear lol, yup my old eyes can't see the bugger anyway 😅
Thanks for your comment 👍🏻
Wow you just created the watch inventory shortage with this great video!! Cool man, I’ve browsed over this watch so many times without knowing its beauty! Now I just want it 😙😎. I enjoyed the video pretty much! Keep the good work!!!
Great review Ben, Orient has been on the outer limits of my RaDAR for a while open heart mechanical watches a tad further away. Now you post this review and wow, what a great specimen. For an open heart it looks great, something to look at when you while away the time when waiting for that job interview or vaccine appointment, it just has the right balance of face to innards readability view. 20mm band width makes this a tempting purchase. Keep up the good reviews Ben.
I bought one after seeing this video. Love it, my new daily driver.
I just bought this in Singapore for S$325. The price has gone up and this blue dial is really hard to get. I asked several stores and only find the black and white dial. It is worth it though. The watch is beautiful!
So happy I got my Bambino 5s in rose gold for a reasonable price some time ago. Happy you mentioned it however since it is mostly overlooked by watch youtubers.
I'm not a big fan of open heart watches, so the one you featured is not for me, but a nice video as always!
This Ben lad is a proper all around decent lad he give kojak a run for his money his thumbs nails are awesome. I've really got into watches as I've grown older there's way to much to choose from and you had to do your research before you buy I've been buying Russian watches as a beginner plus they are awesome to mod eye lad.
Nice find! Good series finding these deep cuts.
The new Orient watch is certainly pretty.
Great watch, personally not the biggest fan of an open heart but I can imagine this working for plenty of people as a viable alternative

Brilliant Video Ben All The Best In Your Watch Channel.
Picked up the Orient Helios Blue dial myself. Really like it a lot. :)
Grate watch. I have a couple of Orient watches and I am happy with them. 👍
Thank you for addressing that model name 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm hitting up the link now only cause you made beer shoot out my nose
Been waiting to buy this since the video came out. Has anyone found it in stock anywhere lately?
Great vid Ben! Keep them coming!
I love that they did a smaller watch with normal lugs but I HATE open heart watches. If they move the sub to 6 o'clock and make it a small seconds it would be awesome.
👏👏👏👏 well done ben a watch we've been waiting for dam love the review brother
I don't much care for heartbeat displays, but this is a pretty good execution.
Nice review ben, orient takes another swipe at seiko ..and nails it ..
I prefer the Orient small seconds open heart you featured recently.
It used to be the sign of a fine men's watch was for it to be small and thin - now everyone wants to rock a Skoal can on the wrist. : )
Oh man, I had a $20 off Jomashop coupon and a 20mm saddle brown strap sitting around so I absolutely could not resist. If I can't make rent next month I'm blaming you!
Update: Jomashop has the watch on a 3 to 5 week backorder. Damn you guys were fast!
I have this same blue open heart and love it. Photos and videos hardly do it justice, though your video depiction is among the best out there. No complaints, but I do have some thoughts on improvements: 1) Why not drilled lugs? They can't possibly add that much expense to the watch. 2) Why not a quick release bracelet? They must know that often the bracelet comes right off anyway. 3) Why not a leather strap option, maybe included? I followed your lead and mine now has a tan leather faux alligator strap on it and it just works. Makes the watch look even more valuable.
BTW, I got it for Christmas, set it to an online atomic clock site, and checked it again today. It's still ticking right on the money, not the slightest variation.
Keep up the good work. You are among my favorite watch reviewers/commentators who regularly talk with obvious expertise about watches I can actually afford.
How is easy is it to read the time? Those polished hands sometimes make it hard to tell the time in bright sunlight or low light. That's why I prefer field or diver style watches.
@@JamesBond-rv1kk I can't say I've experienced any difficulty. I have some field and diver-style watches, but this is a dress watch and it serves dress watch purposes admirably. Another hint that it's a dress watch: no lume.
Here's something I didn't expect. I check it against an official government atomic clock site every evening. At first, it needed to be adjusted every 2 days or so. However, for over a week now it hasn't needed to be adjusted at all! I am probably benefitting from "the luck of the draw," but I've never had a mechanical watch this accurate before.
I want one so much after seeing this review. 👍
A workmate has an Orient GMT and that's a nice watch too
Gorgeous watch
Where could I get this watch in the UK (38mm)?
Only removing the open heart would make the watch look boring, I think. But I love the roman numbers.
Nice find! Made me want one.
A 38mm bambino with a plain dial bauhaus style would be perfect
Unfortunately this one seems to be out of stock already
Have you ever seen manufacture scratch(s) on sunburst dials that can only be seen in really bright light under a certain angle? Almost like the machine that finishes the dial produced it.
Sold out. The black dial version is still available.
I considered this for a while and recognized the tempting value but my "dressy blue dial" spot is already occupied by my SNKL43 lol
Hey Ben, do you think you could review the momentum atlas 38mm? I find them quite interesting with the field watch aesthetic, titanium build and 100m of water resistance including an (unnecessary?) screw-down crown. Looking forward to more videos from you, just found your channel the other day and binge watched most vids. 👍🏻
Man i wish I found this earlier cause this watch isn't available right now ANYWHERE it seems
Though it does seem similar to their Helios line. Maybe it's the same?
Currently in stock again at Jomashop!
@@Christian-ed5uc i ended up finding it since then but thanks man
After that killer new casio watch last video i clicked on this video as fast as i could to raid my wallet keep up this great content!
Hi Ben, would you consider reviewing the Accurist 7365/36/37? I only seen pics but it seems to have a "Je ne sais quoi" about it. Would appreciate your thoughts. Orient do a very nice dial. Dress watches aren't my thing but it's a great alternative for those with slim wrists. Great video, thank you.
Are you sure this watch has a sapphire crystal, i have seen sites that claiming that it has a mineral crystal, and no im not confusing it with a open heart bambino
Orient is the new Seiko. As they get better and better. While Seiko watches go up in price while staying behind in the CQ department.
36mm.... Perfect 💖🥰
HELP ME BEN! I having been looking for one of these with no luck yet. Seem to be discontinued or sold out... Any ideas? Cheers from Canada.
I love orient watches I have five in my collection
Huge fan of Orient. I have their Triton/ Neptune diver in blue dial and a white sun&moon....but....one complaint about their bambinos and this one in the video, is the "water resistant" written on the dial. I find it kind of tacky because generally you see that written on cheapo watches. I'd rather they print nothing there....maybe just "automatic" at the most. My Neptune doesn't even spell that out and that thing is rated for 200m.
If they just change the Roman numerals to something similar to the other markers and get rid of the open heart. I'll buy this in a heart beat.
The blue is very nice
I like everything about it except the open heart. The size, the 20mm lug, the blue dial, the sapphire crystal, the roman numbers with markings that glimmer when you move it. It's almost perfect, but the open heart is distracting and I don't like its placement.
I can‘t help thinking of a bullet wound. Every single time.
It looks like a fine watch but it's not a replacement for a Bambino because the Bambino's beautiful domed crystal and insane sunburst on the dial makes it much more attractive.
5:25 some dirt on the open heart rim. Unsure it's on the glass or the rim.
