London had nearly 500 people working at the nearby EMD plant just over 12 years ago. There are likely numerous people living near the CP yard that have at least second hand knowledge of the details of a locomotive's electrical system. It's one of the few places where such a threat doesn't really narrow down suspects at all.
You'd cut the traction motor leads at your own peril. That would take time and make lots of noise and smoke. Probably just long enough to have the cops arrive. Cool video though! Nice job!
Per the tag, the railroad was there before their homes were. And it's vandalism, trespassing and criminal mischief.
