Reminder that several triple-A companies have used Unity, including Pokémon and Disney. And unlike some indie devs, they can and will sue. John Riccitiello (current CEO of Unity) basically shot the company through the heart
Devs can't just keep on jumping ships every time the rug is pulled from under them... It's so much work down the drain :( Good on you on at least trying to educate your consumers on why this (INSANE) move from Unity is hurtful for... just so many! _Unrelated to everything, thanks so much Electronic Arts._
The studio that made 1 million dollars of revenue from 10 million downloads would have to pay to Unity approximately 2 million dollars which is double the actual revenue Calculation: (10.000.000-200.000)×0.2=1,96 million
I am totally against Unity's new business plan, but you didn't seriously call a mobile game with microtransactions marketed to kids "altruistic," did you?
There are tons of games for kids that are free and have a one time payment like a donation, or for an extra feature. What I was expressing is that such a business model (which is definitely an ethical way of making educational games since studios need to make money but they don't want to gatekeep) is impossible with the new business plan. Obviously I disagree with the idea of trying to milk kids for money, but with such a low amount of revenue per download, you can be pretty certain that this game doesn't do that :)
Unfortunately, it's going to be tough time for many developers.
Yeah... :/
Wow the new Unreal project looks amazing! I think Unreal's amazing lighting will fit really well with your studio's style :)
Thank you! Yeah it's looking like a good choice :)
Can I just say THAT YOUR NEXT RPG LOOKS FIRE! Also is The Outbound Ghost already available for Switch (a good running version)?

I agree, this will not just happen without a fight from those

Totally related the unity ceo is the former ea ceo
Yeah its already tough enough to make games as is... this definitely doesn't help 😅
Genshin Impact developers won’t be happy lol
Unfortunately Unity and Genshin have a joint venture in China, so I doubt they'll be very affected by this and so they probably won't push back

From what I remember, they were calculating based on the Enterprise license for Unity, which has a much lower fee.
Yeah I think this was the non base license
